Retrieving the Past had a similar thing with the daughter but aren't interested in going the incest route.

Did people honestly expect Sumo to change his entire story just to suit them despite being told many, many, so fucking many, times it was never happening?

There is delusional and then there is that.
It is funny you should mention RTP since there was originally a lot more LI for Jensen but dev pampered to Patron demands and changed the story. While I commend Sumodeine for sticking to his guns the point I am making is that games can and do change from the original vision of the developer.

And what, and this just my own opinion, Sumodeine has done here is just rushed the game ending and only really given you one possible ending (OK, two - depending on Molly interest) when there could have been many more - especially, when MC spent time developing other relationships.

Edit:
Furthermore, the game start was fantastic and the ending, in my own opinion, just let the whole game down.

you are righttt... but wrong. Believe me, I'm one of those guys that want incest whenever there's a hot sister, but let's leave MrJet out of this for now. This isn't the story of a guy fucking his sister and living happily ever after, we got Sisterly Lust for that.
This is the story of an awkaward geek that suddently thanks to the milf next door gained some confidence, and this nerd goes to college where suddently all kinds of wrong girls throw themselves at him. Ashley is crazy, Skylar is a slut ( I'm not shaming, but what else has she done with Taylor besides sucking Tales's tail?), Cory just had nothing going about her (Ava, calm down! that
s the only part of the game I'm also a bit disappointed). Sure Tales could go after them but where does that lead him? it's a deadend road with nothing meaningful. I see those as sex content for players that need a quick fap, and Sumodeine was really thoughtfull adding them. that's all about side-pieces.
And there's Nikki, the lovely, fun and crazy "childhood friend" and all them feels and sexual attraction. That's not unhear among people having a deep bond. and Sumo did give us the chance to explore them, going as far as realism allowed. Do you really think Tales and Nikki could get married, have a family and all that stuff? no way Jose. Best case scenario, Tales would've served time in the slammer and had a restraining order forbidding him to even get at handshake distance. No happy ending. That part gave the player control over Nikki's future, the player could be a selfish prick denying her happiness, and the fact sh even went through with that ment how much Nikki cared about Tales. So the good ending we are offered is the best that could happen. And seriously, Nancy didn't allow Tales to have sex with his girlfriend, do you think she would be fine with him fucking Nikki? Nope.
But let's move on to the good stuff.... Molly.... Molly is life, Molly is life. From the start she was the only one besides Nikki that our lying MC could be honest with, form an emotional connection, have common interests and just wish for a white fence and a dog named Spot. It also seems they lived in households with similar worldview and values. I rarely use the word soulmates but it fits Tales and Molly to the Y. And that's levels above roommates.... Sure Molly is a slowburn, but once she got started, Tales was highfiving the angels. And Sumo knew it would be this way and perhaps that's why Tales got some unavoidable sex so players wouldn't be turned off by lack of sex scenes. You think that's not enough to make Molly best girl? then consider this: she was "ok" with Tales having sex with his sister childhood friend! that shows how much she understood and respected their bond.
this was a tipical "good things cum to those that wait" story and I as someone complimenting Sumo's work and suggesting it to others, would feel betrayed, if it ended any other way.
I guess after reading your take on the story and after many hours of reading Sisterly lust and Where the heart is etc, etc... I clearly wasn't understanding the concept of the story as I suppose the 'happily ever after' stuff you kind of get used too! Thankyou for explaining your take on things

Not going into it here but you are so very wrong it's beyond hilarious.

So wrong.

So very wrong.

Ask there, Rogue will tell you, i'm busy right now but the 3 LI was always the plan, the first season was all sex due to a side effect from a serum the MC had that he lost the same season.

Nothing was changed for the fans. In fact some fans are trying to get the story changed right now.

Well, I expected a lot of hate from this “community” for the game endings, so I’m happy that you guys didn’t disappoint me there, even though I’ve clearly disappointed so many of you. The amount of hate you’ve given me and this game has exceeded even my expectations! I go back and forth on whether or not to respond to criticism here. Sometimes it feels like pissing in the wind, and other times it can be productive.

I told everyone probably hundreds of times that there wasn’t going to be a Nikki and Taylor romantic ending, yet it doesn’t seem like a lot of people wanted to listen. And now you guys are so upset that what I said was going to happen, happened. I even told the people looking for that to add the game to their ignore list and don’t play the last chapter because it wasn’t going to happen. Now these people are here shitting on my game. Again. And leaving bad reviews. Again. There are probably hundreds of games out there where the main character ends up with the “childhood friend” or “roommate” and I wanted to make something different, where the childhood friend isn’t the end goal, but simply helps the main character along his journey. Sure, I could have caved to the pressure of these voices and added that in, but then I’d be lying to those that supported me BECAUSE of this.

This game has always been about Taylor, Molly, and Nikki’s relationships. I don’t know what else I could have done to telegraph that more, other than coming out and saying it. But even if I did, I question what percentage of people would actually listen to that.

Spoilers ahead on why the game ends the why it does with each character…

Cory was never going to be a good happy ending for Taylor. They are too different and Taylor lies to her constantly, saying what he thinks she wants to hear. That is not the basis of a good relationship.

Chelsea was more attracted to Cory than she was Taylor. She saw Taylor as a way to get closer to Cory. She knows the Cory likes Taylor and thinks that maybe bringing the three of them together will make her and Cory closer. If Taylor has a threesome with C&C, that leads to C&C opening up their relationship, getting a lot close, and ultimately winning a Gold Medal in the Olympics because they are now more in sync than they’ve ever been.

Skylar may have been a decent option, but her and Taylor barely spent any time together, actually getting to know each other. It was always they run into each other and hook up. Not a bad thing, but certainly not enough base a “they lived happily ever after” scenario on.

Sarah is in a similar boat that Skylar is. She’s gorgeous and there could have maybe potential there, but they’ve had even less interaction than Taylor and Skylar. Giving them an ending based on their interactions would make less sense than Molly pulling an easel out of her purse.

Mrs. Sollain was never going to happen long term. Taylor and her are at two very different points in their lives. Besides, Taylor doesn’t even know her first name!

Ashley is in jail and conjugal visits are hard. Besides, Taylor could never be a vegan and that’s what Ashley was looking for.

So why are these characters included if a happy ending isn’t possible with each of them? First and foremost, BECAUSE THIS IS A PORN GAME! Secondly, each of these characters help Taylor get out of his shell and gain confidence. Something that is ultimately necessary to have a good relationship with anyone in the end. The only one he ever had a real, complete connection with was Molly.

It’s sad that it seems so many people enjoyed the journey of this game, but hated the destination, whereas I feel like I wrote the most logical conclusion and the one that I’ve been moving toward the whole time. Clearly there is a disconnect happening somewhere. At any rate, I’m happy there’s a spirited debate and happy people cared enough about the story and characters to take the time to tell me how stupid/lazy I am. Maybe next time, I’ll make a game that follows the formula that so many other games do. I don’t know yet. Please just keep the discussion peaceful and know that, even though some didn’t like it, I did think long and hard about the endings that were ultimately included in the game.

Best,
Sumodeine

Nah f*ck that nikki would have been a great turn around story to get from the village bike to exclusively being with the MC haha! I mean it's only a story at the end of the day lol

First, a quick congratulations to Sumodeine for completing a game. So many games start out strong with wild promises, a shiny new Patreon account, and some decent content. Over time, the updates get less frequent, quality goes down, and then the Dev disappears leaving an abandoned game. It's always refreshing when a game is developed all the way to the end. Hats off...

That said, I do need to add my voice to the 'unhappy with ending' crowd. One of the reasons I love these games is that choices are supposed to matter. The characters I choose to spend time with, help or hinder, screw over or save, should lead to an ending that is based upon those choices. I don't get that from this game at all. Basically, unless you are at all interested in Molly, all the other decisions in the game are meaningless. I'm definitely in the camp of wanting Nikki as a LI. And no, I didn't read the comments 150 posts ago mentioning that she wouldn't be. But, had there been ending with the other girls in the game I wouldn't have cared nearly as much. In the end it feels as if they were just window dressing and their interactions meaningless to the story overall. To spend all this time to get to know these interesting characters and work through their arcs only to have no impact in the end feels a bit hollow.

In the end, I never really cared for the Molly character and didn't pursue that relationship. So, by doing so, all I'm left with is a bunch of meh, bad endings, making all the time spent going through the game feel frustrating. Had there been different endings with the other girls, I'd gladly do multiple playthroughs to enjoy each story. At this point I have no desire to ever play the game again, which is truly a shame as I enjoyed everything up till then.

With all the above said, I still hope Sumodiene continues onto another game, takes some of criticism, suggestions, and learnings from this game and makes one even better next time.
This is very much my experience with the game.

I respect the effort put in but I ultimately lost interest when I realised that Molly was locked in as the "right" girl. I highly disagree with Spooked's review above where MC and Molly being soul mates is the best outcome because I've known a lot of people who have broken out of their upbringing's structure and come out better for it. Again, I'm not slagging the game or Sumo for the story that's told, but to have it where the MC has a new world open up that develops his personality beyond being a shy geek only to then have the best ending be the girl who was perfect for the guy he used to be seems...off?

I get it, I do. It's the grass isn't always greener story. But to make it so that she's the one and only is a sticking point that I just can't get past to enjoy the game the way I did in the past.

And on a totally ironic note, the MC who had a gone-wild experience in college only to settle back into the white picket fence lifestyle is essentially the start of 80% of the "good wife (re)turns into a slut" stories out there.

My thoughts the same - I found Molly to be the least interesting option, so didn't really focus on her, but now I learn that she's the only true love interest and that I've been wasting my time on this game if I'm not into her.

The dev wanting to tell the story he set out to tell isn't the same as not caring. Expecting the dev to change his story to suit them is so far beyond entitled....
Entitled? If devs don't budge on some things to make patrons happy then they will stop supporting them after all not doing what the person paying them wants but expecting to keep getting their money is so far beyond entitled....

At the end of the day, it's your game and you told it the way you intended, so first of all kudos for not cowering to the "fans" who demanded (that's right, they didn't ask or request, they flat out demanded) the ending they wanted. :)

I have to wonder though, how many of these "fans" are actually backers on Patreon? How many of these demands did you get on your Patreon page or on Discord?

Personally, I loved the game and the endings (yes, I had multiple saves ;))

I know I've thanked you on Patreon already, but thanks again for a magnificent game.

PS Ignore the haters, they aren't worth the effort, or... leave it to Ava, I've heard she can bite a mean ankle! :devilish::ROFLMAO:

If the patrons didn't feel entitled to being backseat devs there wouldn't be an issue.
OR if the patrons wanted something so damn badly they could learn to program, 3D render and create their own Incest story.

You are not the Dev, you don't get to dictate what story they want to tell. The dev was crystal clear from the outset, if you're dissapointed then you have only yourself and you unreasonable expectations to blame.

I'm not disappointed or anything just saying they will lose patrons and it would be their own fault. In order to succeed in something you have to be flexible. Take a look at EA they thought they knew what fans wanted but they were wrong. So yeah if I don't like a story I won't support them.

The people paying make a choice to support the dev, they do so knowing full well they will get the game the dev makes.

No dev is under any obligation to change anything tosuit anyone. If people don't like that they can stop paying

You sound exactly like the people I was talking about. You can do what you want with your money but Patreon is a donation not a contract for employment.

Devs aren't here to make your game, they are here to make the game they want you use your own judgement on whether you want to pay or not but don't get pissy when things don't go your way, find something else.

I'll make it clearer.

Several devs have said the same thing as to why they won't change their work to suit other people, because then it wouldn't be their game and they would end up losing interest and quitting.

Why do you think a lot of games get abandoned?

Some devs cater to fans and then it's not the game they wanted to make and that passion they had fizzles out and they drop it.

When all is said and done you pay to support a dev doing what he or she does not to change their work to suit you. Sumo was upfront in syaing what will and won't happen, anyone paying went in knowing what to expect so it's now on them if they are disappointed.

They were never lied to they were never led on and they were never promised anything other than what they got.

Do with that what you will.

Oh boy you couldn't have chosen a worse company to compare this too.

You think EA is flexible....HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
JJonahLaugh.gif

Madden, FiFA, NHL, NFS. Those are their big games, and they are far from flexible, they literally copy pasta and don't give a shit. They want nothing more than profits and they don't give a flying fuck how they milk you. That's not flexibility that's taking advantage of a thirsty and gullible consumer base.

Your baseline assertion is also wrong, you don't have to be flexible to successful. You only have to be reasonable and deliver on what you propose to do. That was done here. You didn't like it because you were being unreasonable in your expectations and didn't read what the dev wrote, that's a you problem.

Okay I don't use patron at all based on lots of conflicts, there are many people that have a patreon page some artist and some graphic story writers and honestly they do such things freelance in their spare time, however most devs even do listen to those that support at various tier levels as perhaps some supporters have ideas that are highly creative that could be added to the original storyline. Once there is pledging technically the dev is now on a payroll basis as it does cost money to keep an account open as a dev and it does cost for the use of graphics kits. It's a double edged sword either way but in the end I agree as the game title moreso directs MC being with Nikki and it didn't go that direction. Molly is a very vanilla character which could've had realistically a more growth established. The MC also could've engaged in an end of semester orgy with nikki and other female characters incorporated. Either way the project says that it's completed however I've seen before that completed games do carry on..which I hope is a possibility for this one.

Not really.

They said single player games weren't profitable, having 1 Star Wars game make a bit of money doesn't change the fact that their loot box based games are far more profitable.

All the fans have shown them is they will buy a game if it's decent ... which they already knew.

Witcher 3 already showed everyone what a well made game people enjoy can do.

EA's concern is profit which is still online cash shops and loot boxes.

The "not supporting a story I don't like" is the right opinion, that's how everyone should act, that's what I want for the world.

The "I don't like this story but I pay 1 dollar a month therefore the dev should change his story to one he doesn't want to make because I demand it" is horse shit.

Some people seem to place far too much importance on sex and seem to think that equals wanting a long and lasting relationship.

Jessica is sleeping with several people. She likes sex but isn't looking to Tales for a relationship, it's just sex.

Cory does like the guy but not enough to give up on what she really loves which is volleyball ... and possibly her roommate.

Chelsea is in the same boat, wanting to fuck him isn't the same as wanting to be with him.

Branching routes were dropped pretty early on in favour of them being casual college sex flings. Molly was always the one pushed as the long term relationship one and she's the only one that asks for relationship.

This was never a date sim where you pick a route and end up with the girl, this was the comedic exploits of a guy going through his sexual awakening during his college years.

It's college, people want to fuck without wanting to be with the person they are fucking. I think most of us have had casual sex and one night stands. Even with the limited choice I had as one of very few dykes in our college I still managed casual flings that went nowhere. People just like sex.

Molly was the only one set up to be something more.

It's fine to not like being railroaded but it's not like any of the other girls ever asked for a relationship. They did make it pretty clear it was all about that sexy time.

If you go back to my early posts here I was wanting Cory but it was clear that wouldn't be a thing so took the game for what it was, a comedy Ashley simulator.

There is a scene with her after the nightclub but I can't for the life in me remember how I got it, but it is there.

It's very possible to get Molly, you must have messed up somewhere.

She has a good ending where they stay together.
Seems to me that's pretty much a perfect summary for the game. I get the impression that quite a few folks may have misunderstood the story and the direction it was going in. While I haven't played through the final update yet (currently downloading it) I'm not expecting anything special in regards to Jessica, Cory or Chelsea because it was clear to me that they were only ever intended as sexual relationships and the only real romance option was Molly, with Nikki filling the role of "sex tutor".
