No one on one hand can be lazy enough to not make an update for 5 years, while at the same time being dedicated enough to make fake updates while freezing donations every month at the same time. I just don't believe it. After 5 years it's clearly a troll.
Maybe at the beginning he was stalling for time and was lazy, but at this point it is clearly a troll.
Alright, if you ask me, some of these developers might be the same person making a bunch of games with different names just to scam. I'd love to see what the name and home address of the guy who made this and the guy who made dual family is, not to dox, but because I think they would match

I'm just confused. What is the end goal for stencilbits here? We found out the end goal for the dual family guy, it was to vanish, and make people think he's returning to he can get some more temporary cash before finally fucking off for good. But what is the end goal for stencil? Keep trolling until the last person?

Any other scammer would have already died off from an unknown disease or some other sudden cause, or just vanished entirely, and reanimated under a new name. Probably several times over at this point.

That's what makes this so fascinating. I can personally only see trolling as the reason he does this, I don't buy someone playing a social experiment on 70 people (And that's vanishing fast). 70 people is barely enough for a functional village today (And most states require 1,000 for an isolated city), it's not enough for an actual social experiement, it's a blip on a radar. But he certainly doesn't act like a scammer.

My post of social experiment was a joke so I'll answer seriously.
If you look back at his posts on Patreon he mentions switching to 3D engine. The first mention was January 2020 talking about experimental 3D tech. In September 2023 he says he has been hinting at switching to a 3D engine. Then just last month he talks like he is firmly going to use 3D:
And this is where my serious answer comes in. I believe that he is not trolling. I believe that he has been trying to create it in 3D but has been too incompetent to actually do it so he lies each month hoping that he'll somehow make it work.

Hum, I still don't buy it. 5 years is a long as hell time to not be able to make a 3d engine. It takes 5 minutes to buy some unity or unreal assets and then make your characters in engine
The fact that he also hasn't shown a single 3d image tells me he's trolling.

There's only like 1 or 2 of the same people still fellating his monthly posts on Patreon after all this time, the same ones still posting "can't wait" after being in waiting 5+ years. The reality is largely nobody cares about it anymore. More people come to laugh and gloat at Stencilbits making an idiot out of himself every month than they do to actually discuss the game, which is mediocre to say the very least.
I noticed the "support" dropped from 120'ish down to 70 something once they did get scammed and billed for this garbage. Being billed for promises not kept, all these releases that were just around the corner that were almost ready since 2020, so he is now 100% officially a fraud with this latest billing cycle.
As for the reasoning behind it, who knows. You can't make sense out of nonsense, and there's several years worth of it to sort thru.

Offcuts March FAKE Update: Caesar Edition:

Another month goes by, another update pops up. My eyesight is not bad, but isn't great either. It's giving me a bit of trouble to read and write. So if you see any ytpos that autocorewreck doesn't fix ypu know wgy.
The 0.4 Version of Offcuts is almost almost ready. It just needs a few more tweaks and profforedding. Other than that, anything I said you've heard before. Except someone painted a Swastika on my neighbor's Cybertruck. Bet you didn't hear that one. So ueah. That's where we're at. Game us coming, don't know when but it is. Afterwards I may abandon this game for a new project or remake it in 3D.

Another month, another monthly update! Plenty has already been covered in previous updates, so there are only a few things left to mention.
I'm planning to release Offcuts 0.4 as soon as my new full 3D VN engine I have been working on is in playable shape, so that I can immediately continue with some new content afterward. This hopefully avoids another longish pause. The new engine is improving fast, and I had plenty of time to work on it this month. A playable prototype should be ready soonish, maybe even next month. I'll post more once this becomes relevant and I need some testers. Offcuts 0.4 will still use good, old Ren'Py familiar to many VN fans, but after that I will switch to the new 3D engine.
As for what happens after that, it's still pretty open. I'm planning on making a poll (or two) to see where the interest is. I'm pretty open to either continuing with some more Offcut content or trying something else.
After a long pause, it's nice to feel things moving fast again. I have also been able to keep a consistent working schedule now that I work a bit less at my day job and my eyesight issues don't trouble me much anymore after the operation. Some caution, rest, and eyedrops keep my vision in good enough shape most of the time.
As always, I'm not going to take any Patreon payments until Offcuts 0.4 is out. I'll temporarily suspend my Patreon at the end of each month until then. Thanks for your endless patience!

So now he has a "new" full 3D VN engine he has been working on that apparently isn't even in a playable condition.

The longish pause exists because you hadn't released the "almost done, just needs a proofread pass" for 0.4 that we've been waiting for 5¾ years!
The new engine is improving fast, and I had plenty of time to work on it this month. A playable prototype should be ready soonish, maybe even next month.

So, what's the point with the delays on the "Already done minus final proofread" version that we've been waiting for nearly 6 years? Again, mixed signals.
Offcuts 0.4 will still use good, old Ren'Py familiar to many VN fans, but after that I will switch to the new 3D engine.
So why not release the "Already done RenPy Offcuts 0.4" and then bother with the new unplayable engine? Mixed signals my dude. It would've been better to release 0.4 THEN announce the /remake to the currently unplayable 3ad engine.
As for what happens after that, it's still pretty open. I'm planning on making a poll (or two) to see where the interest is. I'm pretty open to either continuing with some more Offcut content or trying something else.
