Been so long since I last played this that Alice's appeal is gone for me. Has she always looked like she does in this recent news update or is she different from before?

Seeing that sentence first just about made my jaw hit me in the dick, until I realized it just meant the patreon post.
She looks different from before.
Before she had the like 2D shading and distinctive like Stencilbits outlining. Now I think hes trying to do 3D renderings on a different engine or something, so the characters look ugly / creepy as hell in different lighting / shading.
And I suspect that is what the real delay is. He's trying to change from whatever his original style was to 3D. So I am not sure if he is trying to go back and remake the entire game in the new style, or just really bad it and struggling to make Alice route in the new style.

The delay was caused by the dev nearly going blind. Well he pretty much did go legally blind. I believe he has had some surgery and is getting better. I am one of his Patrons and he has taken no money since the last update that happened god knows how long ago.

Bro you should realize I have been the one sharing his patreon posts here for like the past 4 years every month (since August of 2021). Literally just click through all the previous pages.
The whole eye issue was only for the past year, and even before that he was saying that the update is done and just needs one last pass of proofreading before it gets released for nearly 3 years.
Intermittently he has been mentioning motion capping, animated scenes, assisted development of the Gadot engine, dead hard drive, changing renderings, having to get back into the "workflow", etc. So my interpretation of the delay is already being extremely generous and trying to assume that he is actually attempting to do something meaningful other than just straight up lying about the actual state of the 0.4 update. Cause it doesn't take 4 years to proofread the script if all the coding and rendering is already done. The answer is either he is working on something more complex than just proofreading the dialogue or he isn't actually doing anything. Most people will chose to the latter option, I want to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he is doing the former, especially since a lot of the recent pictures he post of Alice look worse and worse so I assume he is posting new renderings instead of stuff he had laying around 4 years ago.

Another Month has come and gone. *checks notes* eye is a little bit worse. Shouldn't have watched Speed Racer in the dark. Luckily I'm not blind blind, just unable to work on OFFCUTS 0.4 with Alice path level of blindness. I heard Captain America: Brave New World wasn't good. I heard it at the cinema, since I heard the movie, because of the dual eyepatch action. My seeing eye dog stepped on a bee. Did you guys know that Best Buy is no longer selling movies and their game section has shrunk down drastically? I didn't, because I was busy proofreading OFFCUTS until Speed Racer messed up my eyes.
Where was I going with this? The seeing eye dog raped my hard drive and now it's a floppy disk. No wait! I was waiting for Godot's engine. Does that make me Vladimir or Estragon? No. Like Stella I need to get my groove back, but I can't SEE the movie because I'm either Legally Blind or it features John Cena. I HAVEN'T SEEN THE THING!
In any case My Patreon is more frozen than Elsa's butthole. *checks notes* I must insert a JoJo reference here. "When I was a kid, I saw Mona Lisa from my grammar school art book….The fist time I saw her, with her hands on her knee…how do I say this…I had a boner.”

I wouldn't even be mad if dev copy+pasted this entire thing and used it as an official post. At least then it'll be real instead of how it's been dragged out using the same recycled material.

Another month is ending soon, which means it's time for the tried-and-true monthly update! In the previous updates, I discussed my plans for the future, so it might be worthwhile to check them if you haven't already. This will be a bit shorter, so let's get the current status out of the way first.
My eyesight is probably as good as it can get after the operation, but it doesn't really affect my life that much anymore. With some solid breaks, eyedrops, and rest, I rarely even notice it anymore. Of course, part of it is some permanent loss of sight in my left eye, but it's not too bad, and I'll probably get used to the vision loss eventually. All in all, things could have ended a lot worse.
The second is releasing Offucts 0.4 and continuing with the 3D engine soon afterward, as I planned in my previous update post. As Offcuts 0.4 is basically ready, I have been fully working on the 3D engine, so that I can hopefully start producing more episodes and content immediately after 0.4 is out. The most important parts are already there, although more work is still needed for it to be presentable. I probably make a more detailed post about this at some point, including some demos to test functionality. Every programmer naturally wants to brag about their obscure solutions to weird problems, like modeling human reproductive organ interactions using signed distance fields in vertex shader.
The more interesting thing is, of course, where to continue after Offcuts 0.4 is out. I'm planning to make a poll about this, which will be open to every Patreon member. Some of the more obvious answers are to keep doing routes for other characters in Offcuts or move into a completely new story. I have ideas for all, from contemporary to fantasy and sci-fi, so feel free to give your thoughts once this becomes relevant (hopefully soon). As for myself, I don't have that much preference, although a harem route for Offcuts will probably be a funny (and popular) idea at some point. It should be a glorious disaster of a story and probably fun to write, too.
As always, I'm not going to take any Patreon payments until Offcuts 0.4 is out (I'll temporarily suspend my Patreon at the end of each month until then). Thanks for your endless patience!

I imagine it is because it actually takes less effort to have whatever 3D animation program he is using to render stuff natively in real time than essentially having to manually pose something, take a bunch of screenshots essentially, then having to import them into Renpy and manually scripting it.
Similar to making a live action movie with just a video camera that spits out an MP4 file rather than using a regular still photo camera then having to essentially import all the pictures into Powerpoint, seperating them into slides, adding transition and text effects to make a Powerpoint slide animation.
Another example is making animations and objects in Flash versus making sprites / pngs in Photoshop then animating them in Powerpoint.
So with the higher tech method, it might require more knowledge and effort to get started, but in the long run it makes work a lot easier once you have the basic assets and knowledge. While the lower tech option takes less knowledge and skill to get started, but it's a lot of inefficient manual work.

I don't know what that castle's made of but it's not sand. There's no way it wouldn't crumble with girls grinding on it like that. Also, Alice seems extra skinny now. I saw her arm and I'm reminded of slender-man or when Piccolo's arm got siphoned by Cell.

The insane part to me is that it shows there's still an actual person posting and writing these updates. How is someone able to keep up this rigorous of a schedule of typing up patreon updates while not actually putting anything out and not getting any money out of it?!

We joke around because it's more fun than watching the dev dig the worlds biggest hole and bury his own development career.
That being said, and all jokes aside, not likely.
It's been 5 years and he's been telling it's ready since December 2019. It's been 5 years of excuse after excuse after excuse. Even the people defending him have been quiet for a few years now.
The only defence they had was he doesn't do it for the money which is a damn good job because it won't make any. If he thinks Steam will bring in the cash he's very sadly mistaken, they are more brutal than people on this site for developers wasting their time and money. If he tries this shit there he'd be labelled a scammer and people would make sure everyone knows not to buy it. Seen that happen more than a few times.
You just know the first thread up there will be letting people know 1 update took over 5 years.
