Another month has gone by and once again, I asked ChatGPT to write an object for me. The prompts were 0.4 almost done, proofreading, eyesight issues, working on new engine, remaking game, not taking patreon money. Here's what ChatGPT said:

Monthly Update: Engine Edition

Another month is nearing its end, which means it's time for another monthly update! Let's go through the main points of interest first. As mentioned in the previous updates, my current aim is to finish the new 3D engine, then release Offcuts 0.4 using the traditional 2D Ren'Py engine and then immediately continue with more full 3D content to avoid another huge break between releases. The development has been going well, and currently the only unfinished parts involve some unfinished 3D character animation workflows (like animation data transfer, retargeting and similar related issues). The new Blender 4.4 update and workflow changes caused some minor hiccups with its slightly updated animation API breaking things and plugins, but I have solved most issues by now. If nothing goes wrong, I should be able to finish the first prototype next month or so and also do some user testing afterwards.

This also means Offcuts 0.4 release is getting closer, together with voting what the next content update should be about. I have also shortly discussed these before, but worth to keep in mind once they become relevant. I'll also have to think about what voting choices to provide, I'll probably continue with at least one new update to Offcuts using the new 3D engine. I also have some other potential ideas that can be discussed later.

Nothing else for now, I'm going full steam with finishing the 3D engine. It has been some time since I have managed to keep such a steady pace, which bodes well for the future. The situation should become pretty clear before the next monthly update unless something unforeseen happens, so let's hope for the best.

As always, I'm not going to take any Patreon payments until Offcuts 0.4 is out. I'll temporarily suspend my Patreon at the end of each month until then. Thanks for your endless patience!

Is it just me or does the way he phrase it sound like 0.4 isn't even completed? To me it sounds like he has spent 6 years trying to do 3D instead of working on 0.4 and once the engine is complete than he will work on 0.4.

Guess Red Dead Redemption 3 will be here before Offcuts 0.4 gets released. Seriously, wouldn't it be easier to release 0.4 THEN work full steam at the 3D engine? Especially since "0.4 is practically Done and all it needs is proofreading"... as Stencilbutts has said for almost 6 years. I mean RenPy is totally obsolete for SB and this would be the last RenPy update to Offcuts before he sells us on Offcuts Re:Make in 3D. Jus' saiyan... then again SB defies logic.

Granted I doubt he works on it more than a couple hours a week I wonder what his progress actually is on his engine.

I get the want to preserve the art style (it's one of the charms and things that makes the game unique and will always hold up) but it's an extremely tall task for one person.
I just think chances are it leans towards reinventing the wheel and there was another option already available and serviceable. However, best case if he actually gets it working then perhaps he can sell it.

Another month another excuse. Last time on Stencilbits Bullshit Z:
Working on the 3D engine. Once my work there is done, I'll start working on the good ol' Offcuts 0.4 with the Alice route that is totally almost done and all it needs is a final proofread pass before it's done done done. I'm having bullshitter's block. With nearly six years of my brown periods it's kinda hard to male up excuses that sound plausible. So, OK, I bought a hamster to help me finish the proofreading when I'm doing the good ol' 9-5. Problem is that when I go to work, the hamster leaves the house and goes into its hamster adventures with its friends. Snoozer, Penelope, Panda, Howdy, Oxnard, Bijou & Boss, let's go! Wait that's Hamtaro.

So I'm a virgin orphan with my little brother. Think of me as a competent Elon Musk, but obsessed with Children's card games and beating this other kid who has an old man inside of him. But then there's his friend, the idiot from Brooklyn who I kinda have this love hate relationship too. He's a third rate duelist with a fouth rate deck! Dammit, it's obvious that it's Kaiba's backstory.

Another month, another monthly update! As usual, let's get the important stuff out of the way first. I'm currently finishing the new 3D engine, which I will plan to use after Offcuts 0.4 (using Ren'Py) is released. I'll also try to post some short videos/pics to Discord once I get some final polish in. I planned to add a video to this post, but Patreon has some jank with embedded videos and doesn't support all features for Adult creators anyway (and I usually keep these update posts public anyway), so Discord it is (for now, need to sort this out at some point).

Currently, the progress has been good and I'm planning to release a quick tech demo near the end of July to get some quick feedback and fix any bugs and other issues the new engine will have. It will naturally also have some new content to encourage testing, although nothing too major. The content is still a surprise, but hopefully it will a pleasant one. Just don't expect anything too big, as the main purpose of the demo will still be to test things out.

After that, it's time to do any final tweaks to Offcuts 0.4 and release it relatively soon afterward. I will be traveling for a few weeks in July/August and will not be easily available, so the overall schedule is still a bit open, but I don't expect any major problems to happen. Things should be a lot clearer next month, so fingers crossed. The last few months have been pretty smooth sailing after all the delays and health issues, so hopefully things will stay that way. In case you want more information, the last few posts should contain some additional details. And naturally, it might be a good idea to start to think about what to vote for next once that time comes.
