So how long can a game sit idle before it is marked as "Abandonded" 11 months seems like a long time without an update.

That’s not how it works. We are all frustrated with how Mr Dammed works (or “works”) but as long as he continues to communicate with his supporters on Patreon and/or Discord then it isn’t considered abandoned per F95 rules.

Well, as much as I enjoy this game, due to the lack of work/upgrades, his working on whatever games he is working on (whether 2, 3, or 10, does not matter) I pretty much considered this game abandoned.

Sure, I understand that this is not the way f95zone works, but people can only take so much crap, misleading promises, or falsities before we say "fuck it".

Surprisingly, I even tried Radiant just to "kill time", I play Neko Paradise when it updates, but - no offense -I am tired of waiting for a GOOD game to be updated after 11 fucking months because the developer is off doing something else.

And yes. I understand Radiant might be making more money, but Jesus Christ, maybe Polarity would be making money if the developer would fucking update it on a fairly decent basis, instead of promising " HUGH UPDATES" and then taking forever to never in delivering that update (those updates) just to "prove" the game is still worth supporting and waiting for.

If this seems unfair or harsh to the developer, then I am sorry. but I am getting really tired and irritated by developers starting a game, abandoning it, then continuing to make new ones and abandoning them just to suck money off of people. Maybe some - or most - of the members can afford to throw away money, but I sure as hell can't. Unfortunately, being disabled and on a fixed income means I can - or will - only support decent games and HONEST developers.

<shrug> Not defending it just pointing out how it is on F95. Personally think that there should be a 6 month rule - no update for six months, no activity by the Dev or their team and the game is automatically marked abandoned. The dev/team wants the game to not be marked abandoned they need to update the game or communicate in the forum thread dedicated to their game. Too many games sit idle for months with minimal communication from the dev and are never abandoned yet never see updates either. The onhold tag should only happen when a dev actually tells the mods the game is "onhold", otherwise it is either in active development or abandoned.

Of course no one will listen to me but I do agree that having things sit like this is ridiculous. All we can do is "vote" with our money. Only support devs who are actually active and putting out updates. If it has taken too long to see an update to this or Radiant then withdraw your money. And the reverse is true, if someone is happy with Polarity and Radiant and wants to support Sir Dammed then they should do so.

While small time independent devs may come here to interact and do the game as a hobby, why should anyone actually doing this for money care about coming to a pirate site to keep this or that tag off their game?

Honestly if you want money let the pirates think your game is abandoned and just worry about Subs and Patrons. F95 has the rules they have cuz games like Dr. Amana or The Deluca Family are actually created by just one person alone. And they are not using the HS or PlayHome whatever graphics that are much, much easier so the time between updates can be very long. Both of those devs are here regularly talking and letting people know what's up, but they just had stretches where updates took a long time (each>6 months). So why tag them abandoned and irritate devs that care? And again why should the devs who don't come here care??

This site isn't for the devs, it is for the pirates. Marking a game abandoned or onhold is mainly to make the fapper aware that the content they are about to fap to is or isn't actively being developed. Sure some devs come here and use it to market their games, after all if not for sites like F95 and others many people would never hear of most of the games, especially those made by smaller, independent devs. Interacting with the people here allows devs to get the word out about their projects in a way that isn't Twitter or Steam (more controlled environments than an adult website). It also gets them feedback which is sometimes valuable and allows them to decide if they want to change their project to suit the people on F95 or leave it alone.

Exactly so the only result of earlier Abandoned tags is to harm developers who are small and likely here and active. It would have zero impact on anyone looking to fap as long as they can read the OP and understand dates.

yeah, i understand where you are coming from, but your statement is operating under a major fallacy.

1) The game (most of them here) showed up here because the developer - or teams - wanted their game to get wider coverage. by doing so, they submitted themselves to widespread opinion - and condemnation (especially when they lie or mislead supporters)

2) Their Patreon or SubscribeStar page does them no good if NOT advertised on sites like this, since most "reputable" sites would ban most games here. Especially ones that even APPEAR to deal with incest or the appearance of "loli" games.

3) They are forgetting one of the most powerful truths of the internet: that customer satisfaction and word-of-mouth regarding a developer's reputation for honesty spreads a HELL of a lot wider and to a HELL of a lot more potential "customers" than by the original meaning of Word-Of-Mouth. I have known too many game developers who, once the internet REALLY became popular, lost customers, clients, and supporters over lies and "vaporware".

And trust me on this, word spreads not just from this site, but others as well, and oft times, it only takes ONE site to bring down an otherwise decent developer. Word of this game HAS spread to other sites, and I know of several that refuse to even advertise or promote this game due to his inconsistent updates, lies about the game, and lack of concern for his/her current supporters.

If they are active then it's not abandoned so that's paradoxical o_O Trying to group those two together doesn't make a good point.

After half a year if any dev hasn't touched their pet project well they're letting the embers die. Effort has to be made to keep the Hype Train running.

Smaller, independent devs, come here mostly for help, feedback, and free advertising. Try to get a porn game advertised and it ain't easy plus telling a bunch of perverts there's this perverted game is good for business.

Now it's nice to assume Pirates don't pay for nothing but you would be surprised how many things they do pay for if, and only if, they want to. DRM won't force a person to pay however good content that people want to see more of will make them consider it. Telling people just to avoid piracy is hard when industries have been built upon it.

As for assuming people can read :sneaky: Those that can probably seen "No update for months" an fled like rats off a sinking ship. This hurts word of mouth sales which under the slogan "Vote with your wallet" well getting more people to vote is just politics *shrugs*

So why should any dev care about pirates? Simple as if they enclose themselves in an echo chamber well not everyone will give honest opinions. If someone paid money for something there is a chance no matter how bad it gets they don't want to admit they made a mistake. Taking both positive & negative feedback, reviewing it, and making sound choices with the data is part of growing up. All little indies hope to make it big someday.

People on this site are afflicted with what I like to call "fap induced illiteracy", they don't read the OP or the threads they just want a quick fap and only DL the content. The only thing that would possibly stop them is an "abandoned" or "onhold" tag. If a dev takes more than 6 months to update their game and they end up with an abandoned tag it is on them to correct by releasing content more frequently.

As I said previously if the dev is active here - posting updates on how the game development is going, then the thread would never be marked abandoned, so active and engaged devs would never see the abandoned tag - only devs who don't engage on this site AND never update their games would have a problem.

I was speaking to a specific proposal that abandoned should be altered to be slapped on anything without new material over 6 months time. Without respect to dev communication. I think it is wrong. I have seen numerous times where people scream "abandoned" on projects that are very much not. But they did have gaps longer than 6 months because of whatever particular issue. Waiting for Dr. Amana version 2 was one and waiting for Deluca ver 7 was another. Also the gap from Radiant .1 to .2 was over, but not one of those games was or is abandoned. So that tag method would be incorrect and give bad information for the word of mouth as masterdragonson notes is important. Life happens. Some devs are one man/woman teams. Listening to people without patience and definitely those who do not sub/patron can be worse than missing a tag for those who deserve it (ICSTOR). Updates and info come out on Discord and Patreon and Subscribestar but still people cry "it's all BS they aren't working on it." The system is fine now as it is and should not be altered to what those complainers want.

That's my point.

And I never said anything of the kind. I specifically stated without an update or dev communication on this site. I don’t care if someone is communicating on Discord, Patreon, or Subscribestar. By your example ICSTOR doesn’t deserve an abandoned tag either because he’s communicating on Patreon (last post March 21st), you can’t have it both ways just because you believe one person is more egregious than another. A flat 6 months or 1 year should be applied regardless of the size of the developer.
Anyway, we are very far off topic and I’m sure this conversation will be sacrificed to the mods soon.

So back to the topic of Polarity. This game only needs an abandoned tag if you feel Sir D is lying. He has communicated on Discord (I am not a patron or sub so I do not speak to those) and within the 6 months you lay out. So this would be another situation where the update takes longer (he states it is due to the massive size and pivotal plot points) than normal but since we did not get ghosted why should we suddenly disbelieve?

I feel it because too many people have no clue what it takes to make these games, my opinion. But it is valid to worry if taking on a second game would hinder the first. But his role as script/plot developer in Radiant would not interfere with rendering which is what takes the longest time in updating these games. So let's see if ver 5 is as big as he says once it is here.

Yet he is rendering in HS which is supposedly easier and faster than in Daz3D (I don’t know but I’m just going off what I’ve been told in other threads). If Radiant was currently close to an update or updated a second time I could see a reason for a delay to this game. Though it would be nice if he just was straight with his Polarity fans and said Radiant was his priority and put this game “on hold” so we knew not to get our hopes up. He doesn’t render Radiant which, if that takes the longest to do, would mean that his scripting duties shouldn’t be the hold up for that or this game. In the 11 months of development time that we’ve been waiting for a Polarity update he and Alorth updated Radiant once, Alorth has provided the animations for Privateers game, and Alorth has updated his own game at least once (I want to say twice honestly). All of those games lean heavily on Daz3D rendered graphics which are more time and labor intensive. All we’ve seen about Polarity is that this will be a “huge update” whenever it comes out.
I can’t help but be skeptical when the two projects someone works on seem to get yearly updates despite statements to the effect that it won’t take that long to update both of them. Especially when we were left on a “killer” cliffhanger in this game.

Have you ever heard the fun saying "Shit or get off the pot"? It's funny.

Now things take time sure but showing a game is still in development takes a bit more than "It's definitely cumming, pinky promise". If something has tied a developers hands for more than a month saying it's "On Hold" is the polite way to keep the "Update When?" crowd from going crazy. Two months then there has been a breakdown in communication. By Three well a lot of young indies aren't great at ETAs so it's a learning experience but those that go with "Nope, not going to do it" haven't learned anything useful and if they off shot by this long then something is really wrong. Around the Fourth is when if no one has sent out a search party well they probably should and some statement would be better than none. At Five is wrapping things up, give the Widow a hug, arrange the flowers, and let the fans know winter is coming. Six is the dev has real life things and is not working on game development if they haven't so much as put out a statement so for all practical terms it's done, allow people to go through the stages of grief, and move on.

A Pay walled response has all the making of a press statement except they're never released to the general public. But to be fair with time frames I looked up their Patreon Page.

$3 and up tiers
December 25, 2020 - Progress Report & Merry Christmas
April 3, 2021 - Thanks for being so patient!

So 3 months, 9 days to inform paying customers what is going on.

Free
February 12, 2020 - Go play DAST if you haven't already!

That's 1 year, 2 months, 7 days since they gave any free news on their Patreon and still going.

For Polarity's Budget they have 349 patrons bringing in $1,344 per month. So that's times 3 months is $4,032 per press release. Not update just news about what is going on with the game on their store front.

Okay that doesn't seem healthy but it's not 6 months... Sadly pirate sites are a place many go to get game news and that's it. If any Patreons want to leak some info that's great but if the dev isn't talking on here well people are going to speculate and let their imaginations run wild.

Very true. HS or the other similar program (PH or something?) are supposed to be much much easier to use to create animations etc. I have only used DAZ and Blender myself so I have to rely on other people as you do. But it does seem long. I am not sure if it is fair to compare directly to Alorth who seems to be very prolific now that he quit his day job. But does Sir D release any preview pics or the like? I do not know (again I am not a sub/patron). No previews on Discord isn't crazy but after this much time it would be best to placate those who are worried, right. So it's still a matter of belief. Err on the side of belief is probably not bad for F95 policy because why make waves without a need. That translates to some games getting a pass where everyone feels like they are getting lied to but the other ones that are just slow probably outnumber them.

I mean I hope I do not offend script writers and plot developers but realistically it just does not require the time rendering does. So honestly Radiant shouldn't pile much onto the plate over and above current Polarity work, right? You can have your Render box churning out images while you type on a chromebook.... maybe he needs better GPU's and did not get them before they became pure gold.

I just like to go ahead give time myself. I have been lucky thus far that the games I like that have non-standard delays did get updated eventually. (Except for Chimpanor but he had health issues I spoke to him in SWTOR)

Don't worry, no matter what you say, someone somewhere will be offended! Trust me I know all too well :sneaky:

Rendering takes time on a potato. If you're job involves rendering a lot well you can get a rig to do it, well that is if apocalypse bingo wasn't going on right now. Sand shortages, water shortages, staff shortages, miner palooza, plagues, and who knows what's next. Oh yeah there is gold in them dar chips too :D

I guess you could use a chromebook but for the money it's better just to get a real laptop. Linus Tech Tips did a thing on that.

Plot & Story can take time dependent on how in depth the world building is. If Dammed was to say one of the characters is allergic to dogs well that character better not be seen cuddling one without side affects less the crowd goes wild. It's not just simply taking a trope and slapping it in but actually making it work with the world. Rather lazy just to make a character an info dump but it takes effort to bring them to life.
