There'd be no splitting since people can vote as many times as they like in the suggestion phase. It's one of the main reasons I do two rounds.

In the later chapters there is no grind at all. Each step meaningfully advances the story/develops the characters/is funny/is sexy.

It depends what you consider "grindy". I usually think of grindy as repetitive scenes or tasks. With Helper (in Sterling's room) telling you when/where the next scene is, I don't find it to be grindy at all.

Based on the dev's rate of progress, I'd estimate it'll be out in January, but I'm hoping for a Christmas miracle.

Yes. You need to do all the story lines to progress and then you can watch the storylines again.
I'm curious. What's your definition of "grindy"? For me it's the repetition of doing the exact same thing, over and over, without any change, to reach a certain amount of whatever the game needs me to have to progress (be it currency or affection). There's none of these in the game, no currency, affection or even the exact same thing, needed to progress. So, what exactly is "grindy" about it?
