Thankyou.gifI really only come here because it's a place to get free access to games and have the occasional conversation with some of the few folks here that have an IQ above room temp.
No artist will become completely successful in their art if he only does what people say he should do - his heart won't be in it and it will suck. Make something that sucks (other than a vacuum or sex toy) and you won't make money at that, either, at least not in any real measure or for very long. Keep in mind, the idiots likely don't have much to spend anyway - they've already wasted their extra income on alcohol, cigs and lottery tickets.
Better off being true to yourself and do the best you can with your heart and soul in it.
I much prefer art that was done with passion, since if I disagree with it (conceptually or ideologically) I will simply ignore it. But if a piece of art has a subject you like (due to being a member of the purposefully targeted demographic), yet quickly devolves into a mish-mash of genres and subjects you do not agree with, it becomes evident that the developer has only one thing on his mind - money. Maybe he uses the opportunity to practice his skills, but the end result just reflects badly on him and his reputation.
If you as a dev don't like incest/BDSM/impregnation, then don't do it. Simple as that. Write about topics you are passionate in, and the results will speak for themselves.
