You definitely see this type of insecurity a lot in dudes. I mean, nobody wants to get cheated on I imagine...but how often do you find women saying things like 'I don't want to date a pornstar, or the village bicycle' I'd be curious to know. It seems more often that 'sexual potency' is something desirable in a dude.

That was a pretty interesting discussion you guys had based on my question. I thought I'd chip in just to say that in my case, the appeal of virginity doesn't have to do with any moral objections or insecurities as such. It is more a manifestation of my current mix of troubles with ocd and anxiety and stuff. So a straight up mental health issueo_O (This kind of stuff flared up when I had a burn out) Now, you might ask, "wouldn't it be a good idea to work on those issues by subjecting yourself to non-virgin girls in a safe environment such as an adult game?" Yes it would... I might do that at some point.
Nothing wrong with that brother. You know your wounds, your triggers, your darkness. Your "why's". That's dope.

Some men however, rather than facing their personal problems, externally superimpose them onto others. The problem could not possibly be within themselves...it's the promiscuous women, it's Chad, it's Tyrone, my ex-wife, it's Bill Gates, it's Donald Trump...anyone will do, the world is what's wrong, not ME.

Games like Ripples and Eternum actually teach you to accept the flaws of others, while taking a hard look at yourself. The fact that the female characters are all visually beautiful serves sort of like training wheels in helping you always see the beauty of flawed people. Never once does Orion feel inclined to blame or judge Nova for being a stalker, or does Jack feel inclined to judge Darci for being temperamental and immature, or Ms. Gilmour for being unprofessional and irresponsible.

By default you take a gracious view toward the other characters, and critical (critical, not negative) view toward self - is this player character truly brave, kind, honest? Loving? What dialogue option would the "better man" choose here?

Men and women are certainly a little different in their sexual preferences for each other. Women also don't want men as the village bicycle, but they don't covet virgins as men do. It's not insecurity, it's how relationships work - sexual exclusivity is a completely natural evolutionary preference. It is how humans dated each other before they were called humans. Virginity is just the natural extension of that appeal. Calling it insecurity is just a cope.
Really? Do you have a paper by a modern anthropologist or biologist to back this up?

I know many earlier biologists assumed that many birds were monogamous, then it was found that their offsprings' DNA did not match the male bird they were "pair bonding" with. If you want to take some of our closer simian relatives, the Bonobos are definitely not monogamous. One thing that does seem to shine through is that when males are in charge of a community, they seem to care for such things, but in matriarchal and those where no one gender dominates, monogamy is often the exception. There has been much to suggest that female monogamy wasn't not imposed upon human societies until after the acquisition of power that comes with agrarian society.

Pair bonding in raising offspring may have it's evolutionary advantage, but so is seeking genetic diversity. Having offspring with genetic diversity means that one's descendants are likely to be more adaptable to changing conditions.
Higher body counts, for men and for women, are statistically and intuitively more likely to result in a failed long-term relationship. You could only really call it insecurity if it reaches the point where you are paranoid about your partner cheating by searching through their phone or stalking them, etc.
Body count.
BODY COUNT?
That telegraphs so much.
That term reduces human relationships to one single activity and cheapens even that, IMHO.

I know one guy in the poly community who, when he first entered the community, felt that a woman was "unsafe" if they'd have more than six partners in their lifetime. Until he passed that number and he stopped caring about past history or current activity. Don't know if it was a factor, but he was on the Autism spectrum, what we used to call Asperger's.

I'm really tempted to put that kind of dynamic in Dirty Snowball. The player can make choices that makes things better for him, or make choices that are better for everyone around him. Some of this will be around whom to accept and whom to shun.

I'm definitely using it for my space academy game--whom the player connects with may help getting laid, or success in the academy. Some characters may help in both realms, some will be either/or.

It's not about polygamy or monogamy, but about polyamory. The majority of civilisations in human history have been polygamous, whereby one man will often have multiple wives, but they haven't been polyamorous.

Pair bonding in raising offspring may have it's evolutionary advantage, but so is seeking genetic diversity. Having offspring with genetic diversity means that one's descendants are likely to be more adaptable to changing conditions.
Before birth control, it was an incredibly risky game to engage in promiscuity. Human babies are very needy, and one person trying to accomplish that task on their own is going to be hobbled by the sheer difficulty of raising a dependant for a decade, whilst also gathering food and protection for themselves. Therefore, men have traditionally succeeded reproductively by investing in their offspring and in the mothers of their offspring, to further guarantee that their offspring will survive and proliferate their genetic line.

This is why men are hardwired to find sexual exclusivity appealing because they don't want to be stuck raising and investing in offspring that isn't theirs. That is a handicap for their evolutionary success.

This is not contradictory to a polygamous society where a man will have multiple wives. If he is able to afford the resources to invest in multiple women and multiple offspring, then he will, whilst also requiring them to be sexually exclusive to him because it is to his evolutionary advantage.

The opposite is true for women, however. Women have the biological downside of being forced to carry a baby to term for 9 months during which she is very vulnerable and requires extra protection. Being promiscuous for a woman was a game of baby roulette, so they would traditionally avoid casual sex like the plague. Men, meanwhile, if presented with an opportunity for casual sex, to produce offspring without investing resources, will have a difficult time resisting that opportunity because is an incredible evolutionary win. But casual sex as a means of reproduction will not have been common in human history because women are heavily incentivised to refuse casual sex.

This difference in male/female reproductive strategies is why men covet virgins, and women do not, and why both men and women are turned off by promiscuity.

  • Women would traditionally require commitment and investment from a man before having sex with him, but if a man has enough resources to provide for multiple wives, she will still take that deal because it is to her evolutionary advantage. However, if a man has too many wives or too many offspring, then his resources may be stretched too thin.

  • Men would traditionally require a woman to be sexually exclusive because it is to his evolutionary disadvantage to invest and spend resources on an offspring that does not help further his genetic line.

Body count.

Not sure there is a lot of "relationship" occurring with casual sex. I don't know how much cheaper cheap sex can really get.

Personally, I think it's Skylar.
All of them have their beauty and duties,
To please my eyes, don't make me choose...
Be it Skylar, her mom Luna or anyone they are my cuties,
The girls on this game have nothing to prove,

Jessica don't get jealous, I love yours too,
Tiffany has puppies that I want to screw,
Like peaches and plums, and melons too...
Are some of the fruits that most women grew,

Darci's so cute like a Barbi doll,
Her grandma also has it all,
Some are so large, and some are so small,
Some sag down low and some stand up tall,

Krystal's are quite firm and have little dark nipples
Daphne's are quite soft but don't have wrinkles and ripples,
Jenny of the past or future, I want my head in middle,
Why? The answer to that question should be simple,

Scarlet's are so big...to carry them must be rough,
Her readhead daughter's, Alyssa and Alice are cute opposites,
All are of them are so cute, I simply can't have enough,
To see, to feed, to grab, to fuck, all those have many benefits,

Many girls didn't show theirs, but I'm sure I'll love them,
Val, Khloe, Janelle and even MC's cousin, all gorgeous femmes,
Your cute, beautiful and gorgeous titties are my comfort,
Your sweet and round asses too, please give me an upskirt,

To the breasts we didn't see yet, like Darci's mom, where are you?
Lizzie and Dani, even if I want yours so much why I can't see you?
Why I can't see those charming and angelic milk-filled balloons,
Those adorable cuties hanging so proudly smelling the fresh air,
You may be extremely rude Shelby, everyday's morning to afternoon,
But don't be afraid my dear I still want you to please me with your pair,
One thing for sure, I can't deny that for most men it's a norm,
We all love to see those Ripples boobs... any size, shape or form!

It's not about polygamy or monogamy, but about polyamory. The majority of civilisations in human history have been polygamous, whereby one man will often have multiple wives, but they haven't been polyamorous.
You appear to be contrasting polygyny (multiple women) and polyandry (multiple men). Either one can be part of a polygamous breakfast (many marriages). Polyamory is a relationship strategy that purposefully does not address marriage status, one way or another.
Do you mean before modern birth control methods? Women have had birth control methods for millennia. Some of them are actually mentioned and recommended in the Bible.
This is why men are hardwired to find sexual exclusivity appealing because they don't want to be stuck raising and investing in offspring that isn't theirs. That is a handicap for their evolutionary success.
All I can say is that if we were hardwired (rather than some of us being culturally raised) in this way, there would be a lot more infanticide of step children. Thankfully, this is not the norm in modern society.
This is not contradictory to a polygamous society where a man will have multiple wives. If he is able to afford the resources to invest in multiple women and multiple offspring, then he will, whilst also requiring them to be sexually exclusive to him because it is to his evolutionary advantage.
Perhaps an evolutionary advantage to his own alleles, but individuals do not evolve, populations do. Having so many children share the same father is not advantageous in the long term.
The opposite is true for women, however. Women have the biological downside of being forced to carry a baby to term for 9 months during which she is very vulnerable and requires extra protection. Being promiscuous for a woman was a game of baby roulette, so they would traditionally avoid casual sex like the plague. I think you are confusing biological imperatives with cultural upbring. All things being equal, it is evolutionarily better for a species to have the greatest diversity of alleles. That way the population has the best chance of adaptation when conditions change. When a society imposes pseudoscientific principles, things can be very different.
This difference in male/female reproductive strategies is why men covet virgins, and women do not, and why both men and women are turned off by promiscuity.

It still seems like you're declaring your cultural biases as universal biological imperatives. Do you have any modern papers (i.e. not coming from white 19th century colonialists). You seem to be implying that all men and women are put off by promiscuity. All? With no exceptions? Perhaps you're running with the "No True Scotsman" fallacy, saying that those who don't adhere to your standard are somehow "unnatural" or "abominations." Implying that promiscuity is some aberration of nature denies the evidence and seeks to cast anything outside of one's direct experience as "unnatural." I grew up in the 1960s and 1970s, when many attitudes about what is or is not natural came to be challenged.

We are thankfully not lions, new human males do not begin by killing existing offspring, which is what would happen if this was the way men were hard wired.

There are plenty of men in modern society who do not chase after virgins. There are many men who don't justify harming others because they're "protecting their genetic lineage." This is another indication that this is not "hardwired," or instinctual, rather than being a practice in one or more human cultures.

People (mainly men) have been justifying a lot of shitty, abusive, behaviors against others by claiming that they were a part of natural human nature since pseudoscience began (probably a few hours after actual science).
Not sure there is a lot of "relationship" occurring with casual sex. I don't know how much cheaper cheap sex can really get.
In FWB and polyamory, there are generally plenty of relationship connections being formed and fostered.

In any case, we're talking about AVNs. If those "traditional" rules for relationship styles were adhered to, I don't know how popular these stories would be.

I Haven't played this game yet but reading some comments it sounds like there might be a harem later on my question is can you avoid that and just be with the one girl or will you be forced to be with multiple girls.

thought i would ask before playing as i am a one woman kind of guy both in real life and in visual novels.

Geez i'm stupid i just read that question wrong
The reality is that there are many beautiful women you can spend time with but there is the ability to stop the vast majority of the relationships from getting romantic/sexual. Most of the people here (and I believe - all the Ripples supporters) are happy to be involved with multiple women (I'm good with almost all the women except Shelby - my MC thinks she deserves a good hate fuck - and certainly no romance).

If you pick one woman per playthrough, I can't say how long each of those playthroughs will be and the common scenes that link them together would become boring to do anything but skip once you've seen them half a dozen times.

There is some great humor throughout and there are a lot of erotic scenes (I'm a Tiffany fan and the Tiffany MC yoga is scorching hot) so there is still plenty to enjoy + we will have a new rev coming out soon (Jestur is working hard but still recovering from surgery).
