I mean...right now his job is basically just to find out, what is and has happened in the first place and how or even if he can change something significant. So as of now the MC just can't have too much influence right now, since the overall story is still in a somewhat early stage.
No I appreciate that, my point is we're now 3 and a half years, six releases, into the game and the MC is still getting the old "you're going to have to trust me on this" and "I can't tell you yet" spiel from basically every character every time the plot is so much as hinted at. And he's just fine with it. I appreciate the need to keep the player in the dark for the purpose of narrative but the MC is basically a puppet and not once is given an option for him to tell whoever is speaking to go fuck themselves. There's a deviant mode but it seems to only be applicable for when the MC is giving someone a proper dicking.
You're 100% correct...Riley is the most annoying in this regard.
I think Riley is probably the most obvious example because she's the only person you've had an actual proper conversation with about everything that's going on. Everyone else either doesn't know (Darci/Janelle) or is actually on the other side and suspect things about you that you know (Scarlet) but like even the whole Skyler thing is peculiar. She goes missing for a spell, comes back, is sus as fuck about everything and the MC's just like "welp, anyway let's continue on as if nothing has happened and everything from the past few days and the reaction of your mother and everything is just all normal" Like bitch grow a spine and think about it. There's so many red flags there
I completely agree, it's the only thing in this VN I actually and actively dislike. The MC is a doormat (currently) and just letting the world revolve around him (and as much as I love Skylar...her whole scene just rubbed me wrong, almost as much as Riley's).
Jestur posted something along the lines of "try waiting until you've seen her story in full before passing judgment" so there will for sure be some explanation if it's good or not we can only wait and see (I lean on the side of it will be good/justified) but that still didn't stop me from quickly doing a replay CTRL'ng through the game to not pursue Skylar at all
100% while I do think there are far more romantic LI out there her date is by far the most romantic once ive seen in a game yet.
