It might just be, that whatever you used to extract the files before was not up to date.
Certain formats, especially zip, get updated every now and then. If someone packs his game with a new version and you extract with an old version, the files might be corrupted leading to any manner of errors.
This often happens with the integrated handling of zip files in windows. It's best to use a different program to extract (ie. winrar or 7zip) and make sure these programs are up to date.
