Hmm, could it be because it's what feel natural ?
In the vast majority of games I've played, and I'm playing since the early 80's, you manage and use your components from the same screen.
It's also less works on the coding and designing side, since you've only one (set of) screen to works on.

And what if one don't want to scrap/sell, because (s)he mostly don't care about the quality and just want to sell a lot of bot quickly ?
Of course, it's not optimized, but I'm relatively confident in the fact that at least half the players are doing it that way. They don't care about optimization, especially on the adult gaming scene. Their initial intent is to play a game with lewd content, not to challenge themselves or fill an achievement list. And if the bot creation add some depth to the gameplay, to their eyes it also add a lot of grinding, especially due to the way too frequent save compatibility issues.

While OhWee and I rarely agree, simply discarding the opinion of someone who have years of experience regarding adult games players expectation and behavior is not really wise.
You say it feels natural... I disagree it feels forced... I had accept this as differing opinions, but claiming these are mayor facts instead are what's riling me up here.
Well this is neither my first game with management elements nor the first large area storage system I have seen... if anything trying to fit everything in a single place is bound to confuse people more, makeing them miss the tree in the woods and adds a mayor effort to controll and organize your stuff.

Not sure how many people do that... given the comments on Patreon and the inofficial challenge to post your most valuable bot as a screenshot that we had here before I would counter that most people DO care.

You always have the palyers that come for the porn and those that come for the game...
I counter your point that you don't really need to bother much with the Bot configurator for the main story... all you need is one illegal bot with a value of 100k+ and 150+ int... all other bot Quests are optional and still can be completed with scrap bots as you mentioned... dealing with bots is a fun Bonus nothing more.

I wasn't simply discardeing his opinion... if anything that's what you are doing.
I challenged him to give reason for his complaints after checking all the facts... as he discarded several mechanisms of the game simply by not useing them and than claim they were missing.
And what makes you think I don't have years of user experience in Adult games myself, we agree to disagree... that's fine but you'd first have a solid argument before starting a discussion.
Quoting both conversations for emphasis.

The last paragraph is a gross misrepresentation of why I suggested what I did (adding sort options to the BOT CONFIGURATOR) and your statement r.e if I was I was using the sort options in the CONSOLE was very misrepresentative as well (I use the sort options in the console regularly, I just don't have a photographic memory). Anyone that follows any of my mod efforts (Brothel King comes immediately to mind, also SU ReImagined) is aware that I've always been of the philosophy 'don't force players to do in 20 clicks what you can do in 5' and 'don't force the player to have to move around and scroll excessively to find minor bits of information if you can make the information more easily available, within the context of the situation of course!'

As Anne points out, reinforced by the fact that you have a bot assistant floating about, it JUST MAKES SENSE to have more sort options in the BOT CONFIGURATOR, as that's what costs you an hour to use.

In any case, as I said before, my suggestions were intended for the developer to consider, not you, and it sounds like there will be something new along these lines in the next update. Note that as I said before I'm saving 0.7 for when I'm burned out on coding other stuff and need a break. I use games like this to relax, and avoid games with unnecessarily excessive grind.

I still stand my latest suggestion of moving bot related stuff out of the console completely, and just handling all of that in the Bot Configurator with tabs to switch between modes, repurposing the console for something else altogether. As YOU pointed out the lab has other uses, so that console would be a great place to put non-bot related science-y stuff! Consolidating the robotics stuff into a single lab 'click' location, as Anne mentions, just feels more natural, and there's room on the Bot Configurator screen for extra tabs.

And I can even justify a methodology for unpacking crates in the lab as well as in the cargo hold. Your robot buddy could fetch them from the cargo hold for you! I mean, if you can open bot crates during trader negotiations when on another ship entirely, WHY NOT in the lab as well?

I could apply that logic to bot crates that you purchase from the station bar as well, that could also save a tiny bit of grind, but with the way the purchase interface is set up in the station bar, that'd be a bit more work to add such functionality, so I can live with that.

I get that you like all of that extra clicking walking back and forth between consoles and even entire parts of the ship, but after the first couple of times it's just unnecessarily annoying.

This would also apply to ship upgrades, i.e. it'd be nice if you could purchase and install components while in the engineering section as well as the cargo hold, that's what online shopping is for after all! But at least you only work with the Ship Configurator in Engineering a few times, not pretty much daily...

Again, the whole point of this is to reduce the 'back and forth' between locations gameplay grind a bit when it really isn't necessary and makes sense within the setting. SOME players appreciate it when developers find ways to reduce the grind a bit.

I'm looking forward to see what the developer has come up with for 0.8 when that eventually drops! In the meantime, as I said, I already have a temporary solution for my own problem, although I'm not sure how much is changed in 0.7 yet which might relate to those changes. Since we pretty much have to start from the beginning, AGAIN, as I said when I need a break from coding stuff, I'll check out 0.7 then.

For starters after replaying 0.7 I am confused about the terms you use even more... there is no BOT CONFIGURATOR... the game itself calls it Bot Lab in every instance (From Nimhes introduction to all quests related to it).
I agree that running in between the Lab and the storage area on the first floor is tedious though I'd disagree with your suggestion of BB-2 being able to haul entire Bot crates... have you seen his size? (can be seen infront of the closed brothel on Itarii Station if you want to take a look).
But maybe useing some internal transport system could be an explanation... like lowering crates via a pull or crane system than have some heavy transportation machines move it into the Labs storage area behind the forcefield.
Large area storages have those in general as noone runs through aisles of stuff to get a crate and check it's content... have a machine get it than check it, be it a pallet transporter or a crane.
The Console is the Storage area management device which gives you full controll about storage and shipping, while the Bot Lab is all about construction and training of said bots... if you want to go for realism it would actually make more sense to move and fuse the normal storage with the Botstorage... but yeah that would mean moveing in between the construction and the storage area more and people would likely forgot what they checked for in the storage.
It would be realistic to disable the "OPEN" button while tradeing with other ships... though I doubt that could be easily done

Well, the bot hid an entire girl from you for days, so he's pretty resourceful! Also, he convinced T'ris to use the trainer, something you discover later... BB-2 is such a perv!

He probably has a built in tractor beam to move stuff around and do... other things... with...

The full text at the top of the Bot Configurator screen is:

BOT CONFIGURATION & TRAINING

At least as of 0.6. It's the thingie that has a human shaped silhouette on the left side of the lab scene.

If you are talking about J-Bot that's not entirely true... based on what BB-2 is stateing he build her right after the incident in hope of useing that bot to command the ship and only restarted to work on her after rebuilding the Bot Lab and MC gathering 20+ Bot parts in storage.
He stored her in the back of the storage area, duo to being unable to train her and make her assume controll of the ship as his pet

Well yes... that's the description of the menu/mode you are when entering the BOT LAB

I was talking about the game mechanism, but well...

Except that it's not (as of 0.6) called the BOT LAB ingame, on the map at least, it's called the BOT CONFIGURATION & TRAINING (screen).

The minigame .rpy code refers to code associated with the BOT CONFIGURATION & TRAINING screen as the SEXBOT LAB in 'commented out' text.

Even the mouseover sprites inside of the 'main' lab screen are labeled as AELab_Bot not Bot_Lab. The other two mousable areas are referred to as AELab_Terminal (I've been referring to this as the console) and AELab_Storage (the dimension door/vortex/portal thing...)

This implies to me that the (Sex)bot configurator is part of the ENTIRE LAB, not it's own separate lab. It's important to refer to stuff as it is labeled INGAME, so that others following this thread don't get confused.

The Terminal is simply labeled GD on it's sprite, and the screen labels it invokes when clicked vary depending on which terminal mode you've chosen (Parts Storage, Arcade Manager, etc.) after clicking on the GD sprite to open up the Terminal screens. I refer to this as the console, AELab_Terminal is it's 'official sprite name'.

I'm liking the game, but more random scenes with the crew mates would be nice, especially when unlocking new costumes, having them have a few new poses and random chit chat when you talk to them would be a nice bonus, I like games when they add little randomized content instead of talking to each npc and its always the same thing, expecially in sandbox games

Glad you like the game.

The saves unfortunately will never be compatible across versions (for certain technical reasons, nothing I can do about the process flow issue that causes it).

The game will be finished around mid of 2024 (with monthly releases). So that would be the point in time to check in again for the full experience. Every three releases or so I'll add a new star system.

Otherwise you could sit a few versions out if you do not want to replay or alternatively use the Jump To function I added.

y.v.
Thank you for that info. I truly do appreciate it. I played each of the releases until the last one, and haven't played the new one yet either. I'll probably check out the next one then and see what's all there.

Great job on an awesome experience so far.

Nihme only speaks about a Generation 2 or higher bot, though she also needs some smarts... so going Generation 3 Military is the safest bet
I scored a G2 Mil so that worked.

Also, how do we improve Khelara's morale? I tried the orange booze that's pictured but it's not working.

I may have done a reference or two to that movie in my fanart...

There's a quick nod to the HM intro in FmF, which also references a few other things...

But this has about nothing to do with Space Journey. Looking forward to stumbling across the Heavy Metal references that I may have missed. I'm not expecting any Barbarella nods in SJ, but those could be fun too!
:p

Also, more moon hotties with purple hair please!

U.F.O. nods in SJ, OK most people here have probably not even seen U.F.O. (the 1960s series set in 1980...), but still could be fun...
The art you did looks good though. The only reference that I saw in SJX was the Krell slave in the new system that is a Tarakian. Blast from the past though, I used to love that movie....HM2000 a little less though.

I did not know that trashy looking women in Princes and the Tower made me this happy. I see this, and am happy again.
