A game is referred to being dead this long between updates. It's been like a year now? One year to release an update? When did the last update come out 4th Feb?

Hahahaha, believe in bullshit. Why anybody would sub is beyond comprehension. A year between updates. No excuse

The last major update was in September 2023.

Lots of talk about how Atemsiel is making the game he wants to make, but it's obvious he no longer has the time to make that game, at least within any reasonable timeframe. And unless he quits his job that is unlikely to change; it's more likely that it will get worse. So he might want to start thinking about the game he can feasibly make with the limited time he has available... and that may require downscaling his ambitions.

I will say this as an absolute:

This game's delay has nothing to do with the way the choices and path are written and coded. There's no "getting overwhelmed" going on. The delay is purely due to Atem having less time to work on it. Motivation is not his problem. If he followed any of the solutions people have provided so far to change the game for their own preference and convenience, his motivation to make the game would vanish.

So, as the poster right above me said:


The choice is not:
- Stormside As Atem Wants It But Slower - vs - Stormside As Other People Want It But Faster -
The choice is between:
- Stormside As Atem Wants It But Slower - vs - No Stormside

And that's what the choice has always been.

Please stop trying to armchair-dev Atem. Until he got ultra-busy, he's always been very communicative and helpful, both to his own game's community and to the dev community in general. If you personally don't want to keep supporting him this long between updates, that's fine. You don't owe him your support.

But he's said what he's said about the update pacing, and he's said what he's said about the girls' paths and the game respecting the player's choices. Given the game's quality so far, I'd say he's earned the respect of taking him at his word.

If someone is making an obvious bad choice they should be criticized over it, no one is arm chairing anything.

If he doesn't want to be realistic that is surely his problem, and if the issue really is him just being busy with work, his stubbornness should only be criticized even further don't you think? Or are you here just to defend him regardless of basic logic?

The only evidence we got here is no updates in a year, barely any Patreon posts either, therefore the ONLY resolution to this is No Stormside, like you said yourself, even if we do get any amount of updates before it's inevitable demise.

I just hope something changes, like everyone else here who actually wants to see at least SOME of where Atemsiel's vision is going.

Just finally caught up and played untill the very end of 23.1.4. and if this is the ending for roughly speaking a whole year then yeah, I can see why people are concerned. It's really not cool to see this as a cliffhanger for such a long time. Such a bummer.

tbf some game (avn) famous one or not so famous one, do have a yearly update cycle for whatever reason.

the problem with atemsiel are
1. they start to ghost their patron, no patreon post in between month for example no post at all in september 2024; November 2024 and january 2025. i wont count discord chat as a form of communication (even he also start to hide in discord). this is the very clear and bad sign of a game that will soon be abandoned

2. instead of focusing in developing the game, Atem start a side patreon projekt (poll based render) to "appease" some (undestandable) people that start becoming impatient. only to drop the side projekt after 2 months of running.

3. the last post in patreon (december 2024), stated that because of his perfectionist, he hasnt finish the script for the next update yet........ so no progress AT ALL in more than 10 months.... (my bad this one wrong game but similar situation)

TBH, i am amazed by his loyal paid patron that give atem a minimum 1,2k per month or 120k per year even though atem clearly said that there are no progress in more than 10 months LMAO

to be honest this whole mess of people start complaining could be avoidable if only atem paused the patron billing after realizing that there are no progress after months or if he didnt have the time to develop the game instead of leeching of his patron only to say that there are no progress at all in more than 10 month

And which of all the possible options do you think he should pursue? There are three paths for each LI (plus he can reject them). Does he randomly choose a path for each LI depending on what he feels like? Does he choose the same path for all of them? What happens to those who don't want that path?

I only go down the romance route with LIs (so I'll avoid 2nd year girls). If the game stops having that route, then I'm also not interested in it. To me it would be the same as if he stopped making the game altogether.

That he hasn't finished does in no way mean there has been no progress.

Just over 93,000 words (In dialogue. I have no idea how many lines of actual code.)

Around 200 animations"
ready for the next update. This does not sound like "no progress." We even see some of the renders in the header for the post.

I agree, I would have liked to see the update sooner, but your argument is simply wrong. If he is actually working on this full time, then he needs to eat, and so, money. He also need to upgrade his set-up to render some scenes, which requires money. Support him or don't, but stop lying.

I'm going to assume that the people who are paying are doing so because they want to. I don't think they are threatened or anything like that. If they are still paying after a year, I don't see why we should be the ones complaining about it, they had plenty of time to leave if they wanted to.

my bad, i mistook the post from another HS avn that the dev has the same/similar problem and both make a christmast post. but i still stand on my point 1 and 2.

but then again, if he really do make progress why start ghosting his patron? he cant show some of his "around 4500 render" as a monthly post so people can imagine how far the progress are?

I am just saying. It's been a year. Somebody deleted my post in this topic on something I know about it. Not discussing, or the forum nazis will delete.

But a year is out of order. He's been stringing people along. He had enough content in the summer when I stopped my sub prior spring. It spelt wrong then. Gonna add the polls, and blah blah, then excuses on crowdstrike. All he had to do was release anything he'd promised, in his comments on his discord. Instead it smelt worse, and worse. Now it stinks. A year later there's no excuse.

I like the game, a lot, kinks, genre, content, and as a VN it has a lot of choices, it animates them well, it has enough sandbox, potentially adding more, but it hasn't got the content, regularly.

To be fair, those games (ie BaDIK etc) with yearly update cycles tend to be from established proven developers with completed games under their belt. And usually the development cycle didn't start out like that- it lengthened over time as the underlying game became massive and far more complicated.

Stormside has been in development for only 3 years with a newbie developer and we are already at >1 year for updates. Numerous LI paths haven't even kicked off yet and major plot elements are barely even developed. Then you've got all the side girls, the ghost busting freeroam stuff, the ambitious underlying plot...

Maybe there is a monster update coming that Atemsiel hinted at in this thread back in November, but then what? 18 months till the next update? When you think about it, it's hard to be particularly optimistic about this game.
