Game of Hearts Ch4 part 2 is out and once again i wish they have far more story than they have sex-related choices. They're good with their words, i just want to read their story instead of reading 90% of scenes and less than 10% of story progress

Superhuman is unique in a lot of ways. I suspect you wouldn't find a game quite like it even if you played every single game on this site, but there are other titles that are of similar quality at least in certain aspects.

The two games that feel most similar to SH to me are Zero End (which sounds like it could be the game Sidartha_6 was trying to think of) and Demons of the Hearth. Both of them feature excellent and deep worldbuilding, interesting plots, competing factions, characters with their own lives and sets of interests, high quality fight scenes, and dark atmospheres. Several of my pals in the Superhuman community really like Zero End so it'd probably be the one I'd most recommend to you if you haven't played it yet.

Then there are two series that also have really good fantasy worldbuilding and excellent characters but are quite different from Superhuman in tone: Mythos and the Elsaverse (you'll probably want to start with the Omnibus). Mythos is a murder mystery and a comedy and tends to be a fair bit lighter than Superhuman. The Elsaverse games and stories, though quite varied, focus more on relationships and romance than Superhuman does. In addition, neither Mythos nor the Elsaverse emphasize fight scenes. Another thing they both have in common with Superhuman is that they also have generally nontoxic and supportive fanbases which makes their game threads much more pleasant to read.

There are also a few games that remind me of Superhuman mostly because of their fight scenes. Tokyo Babel is an all-ages VN set in a world where angels and demons coexist. The worldbuilding and story are actually quite interesting, but the fight scenes are particularly well-done (among the best-written I've ever seen in a VN though still not quite on Superhuman's level) and the opponents are all quite unique. However, choices are few and far between so there is much less of a feeling that you're actually affecting the story with your own actions and you can't really roleplay the MC in your own way. In addition, the most interesting LI in my opinion can only be pursued after you play the other routes which isn't a mechanic I'm fond of at all. There are others on this thread who are far more knowledgeable about it than I am, but Mad World also has good fight scenes. I'll also throw Alpha Omega into this category because combat seems like it will be an important aspect of the gameplay. The MC is training to become a competitive fighter so the stakes are a fair bit lower than in Superhuman (though one character has already been seriously injured in a fight). The characters are well-written and the story manages to be both entertaining and have real emotional impact. Given the competitive combat setting, some of the LIs are quite muscular and don't have the typical Daz look which could very well appeal to Superhuman fans.

Finally, I'll mention Nothing Is Forever and Leaving DNA because of the high quality of the writing and the depth of the characters. They are grounded and realistic VNs so they won't scratch that itch for adventure and fantasy that Superhuman and most of the other games I've mentioned here do, but if you love Superhuman you love a great story and these are two of the very best you'll find here. Granted, I might be the only person on this site who actually counts Superhuman, Nothing Is Forever, and Leaving DNA as my three favorite AVNs, but I urge you to give them a chance. Nothing Is Forever even has RPG-like stats and skills and you have a lot of freedom to play the MC as you see fit, including by making choices that could be considered evil. (Admittedly, you can't go full murderhobo...not yet, anyway!)

A new episode of A Shot in The Dark is out. This game, much like Summer Heat leaves me greatly conflicted. On one hand, the main plot thread is getting kind of interesting, and some love interests are fairly well written (nothing groundbreaking on the level of something like Strangers on Paper, but hey, I'd give them B+ compared to most other games here) but others are just the most egregious piles of porny nonsense you have ever seen.

With the steam release devs revamped the UI and general production value without taking years to remaster the entire thing which I find very commendable and similarly to Summer Heat it's one of the best produced games out there. Also, looking at their previous game that had no plot, and seeing the progression I'm holding out hope that their next game might be actually story focused!

You might be surprised, but having a sex life outside these games is very much normal adult story writing and also a testament the mind of the writer is not stuck in the confines of school projects where they are too polite to make any emotional impact strike through the plot.

It might strike you as odd, but having a healthy sex life with your spouse or signifficant other is not back seat writing. Showing one sided traits of the vilains being rapists, blackmailers, womanisers, sex addicts or plot armored sex dropped on their head for porn game purposes - all of those do not negate or forbid your main charatcer from having a sex life, a healthy relationship of actually honest human connections - drama for the sake of drama is not good writing and withholding sex from your main character is not a sign of a story based game in the slightest.

Being emotionally blackmailed into being their simp for the 100th time while they withhold sex or any emotional affectionate display of being your partner is not the testament of good writing or a story.

Making many and well rehearsed porn filled scenes for the vilains or the NTR tropes or the BBC tropes or the bully tropes or any other severely one sided vilains is not a story focussed game or even a good game in the slightest.

Such slide shows where those porn tropes rail your bethrothed with no build up, no story progression and no reason other than to show us how minor characters get plot armored scenes built on the premise that ”because they are evil and need no character or plot behind their evil deeds” - they are shown to dominate the scenes while the player base intent on seeing total dismemberment of all character attributes or human traits cheer for the antagonists to ruin the protagonist life are not good games or story first games.

I'm holding out hope that their next game might be actually story focused!

The story of the game is that MC goes to the party .. MC gets goaded and even dragged there by his roomie .. .or he gets there with the girl he meets while being a weirdo loner - the story is there where the party is the galvanizing strike of genious for the MC where he meets all the girls who would later turn into his love interests. MC is built up pretty good with a story of photography and a reserved self - his photos in the social media are of himself and his mom even - something totally relatable to reserved young adults who have a bad track recod with anyone being their friends.

A social event where MC opens up is a believable spark for his social life in a community of university campus life with people eager to integrate him into their own social circles.

This kind of turnabout moment in life and the ensuing shenanigans of MC being part of the social life of others, rather than some introspective loner hating life - this is interesting, precisely as MC living in the moment, in the now, is a good representation of how young couples get lost in their bliss of making it to be a family together and loose themselves in their couple sex life and their short term projects together .. .where too much thought or too much second guessing is left out, in favor of living their young couple life to the fullest.

The fallback to the lonesome years and the weird past of MC makes his transformation all the more extraordinary - as opposed to NTR or BBc or simp oriented shameless porn tropes filled games where the vilains get turbo sex scenes on steroids for the duration of the game with nothing for plot, while characters development is geared towards the looser protagonist who never gets anywhere or the turbo slut spouse of the protagonist who gets to be the town bicycle loosing all character for the pleasure of the audience laughing at her ordeal and that of the main character and players cheering for their constant abuse and hummiliation.

In adult games .. you need to choose what you want to game for and enjoy each game for what it is - brainless porn tropes of constant abuse or a story of actual character transformation.

Short novels with small scopes and brilliant characters build up aND PROGRESSION OF INTRIGUE AND PLOT exist and games do not need to be RR MArtin type of incest blood curdling sadistic murder or character assasination to be enjoyable, even if you like to watch game of thrones or house of the dragon.

Taboo university has a police officer looking for the missing girls, Jury has a Juror living the trial of a spouse found in the same home as the slain victim and on trial for murder, you could say: a gross simplified take on the O.J. trial with the mishaps of lacking crime site investigations.

After that night is a police drama maybe closer to what you look for - centered on the inner struggles of the protagonist.

Latest games from Tlaero are all murder mistery thrillers with good story and wonderful adult scenes that ground the characters and bring them alive out of the gloom and doom of their minds.

I thought about giving it a shot, but after I read the overview and saw the previews... I mean no disrespect, but the images look totally porny and I thought the plot is going to be an all out power fantasy.

i agree my writting aren't the best, mostly cause i still struggle with english and use a lot of of tools to correct my grammar and everything, thankfully i'm improving, the writting at mid- late game is a little better compared with the start.

The key term was "all out power fantasy". I think power fantasy stories can be fun if they're done with a bit of flair. Like, roll with the minimum demands of the genre or audience (so this strains suspension of disbelief), but then don't go overboard and keep the power fantasy part a bit in check. But this thread isn't known for its love of any power fantasies, really.

So I don't say power fantasies are bad. Hell, my profile picture is from a gloriously trashy power fantasy game, and my favourite VN has strong power fantasy elements too.

I didn't see most of those films, so I can't judge all of them. Troy was a bad film and it lacked like all of that. The Matrix movies were great and had depth and world building. Didn't see House of the Dragon, but Martin's books usualy have depth and fleshed out characters, his world building is okayish though (he can never decide if Westeros is a carved up kingdom with feudal vassalage or a semi-centralised bureaucratic empire). The screen adaptations are normally a lot worse.

okay i'll try your game. but i need to play seeking closure first. then probably eternum after that. then your game.

normally i don't really care whether a writer is man or woman on other medium but I found that with regards to AVN, women writers on average makes good games. Also why I ask. Whether it's Evakiss, Cherrylicious, or Tess, i think on average, i had good experience playing those. I don't like the majority of Karlsson Gambit at all but the underlying story is actually good.

so yeah, i'm looking forward to play your game.
