Speaking of Kickstarter promises, I'm surprised no one has brought up the £400 000 goal in this thread yet:

Take a look at this goal and Lily's tits literally hanging over the number and tell me what you initially thought these "additional animations" and "cinematic cutscenes" would contain? I was certain when I backed the Kickstarter that it meant we would get additional adult content WITHIN those cinematic cutscenes for "every single major plot event in the game". And what did we actually get? Some SFM/Machinima style animations you would expect to find on Youtube that have literally ZERO adult content (and I don't expect they ever planned to have that in future chapters either).

But that's OK, I'm sure someone in this thread will try to gaslight us again about how FOW never promised stuff like that

Hhmm...I think you are reading a bit too much into that one, it says cutscenes for important events so I read that as there being more cutscenes on top of the sex ones. Or you are being sarcastic and it completely flew over my head xD

*clap clap* Well done, legally speaking that's exactly what it means, and this is the same marketing trick used by countless companies in the video game and non-video game world. In my view, however, this goal was absolutely misleading to backers and such important funding goals shouldn't be a matter of interpretation at all. The studio should have been absolutely clear on what you are paying for at each Kickstarter milestone, because otherwise the result is this whole thread.

I am talking about the interpretation of what is on the stretch goal, not about what is in the game. It says in the first line "Every single major plot event" that says exactly what is going to be animated, unlike the Pandora system it's hard to judge just how many of these events there are and how long the scenes will be based on Chapter 1 alone. This stretch goal is something that we can only judge once we get the entire game.

I will criticize Subverse and Studio FOW's management of it where it's deserved but I won't where it isn't.

I think you're both right on that stretch goal - I voted yes in your poll because, while what Unsaid is true that from a technical standpoint they did exactly what they said, it wasn't explicitly stated it wouldn't have porn - it just wasn't explicitly stated that it WOULD have porn, either, and with the way the game is advertised, I don't think it's unreasonable for people to infer that at least some of those cinematics would include porn - as noted you've got super slut Lily hanging her titties over the banner for it, lol. I personally took it to mean that 'some' would, and some would be more narrative events, etc.

Well I sure hope the "Cinematic Cutscenes" isn't just an excuse to lock the camera during the porno because it looks like the animators tried to cut corners by hiding things behind the cam like they were doing in their previous movies. Just look at the image below. If you're gonna create the porn in the game like the way you did your movies, then you should've made this a film too. Why cut on the game to see the porn if we all have the same locked camera view? Just hop on R34 and someone will post the H-Scene you were gonna look at, since there's little to none interactivity with the scene whatsoever aside from the bland gallery mode.

If you ask me, this could've easily been a Studio FOW flash game without the added Shooter and XCOM gameplay. No moveable camera, no gameplay, just straight up porn.

I agree with this. They were clearly trying to direct the scenes. That scene in particular it actually makes sense why the clipping is the way it is, and why the tentacles move like that. The tentacles "feel" like they pierce lily in the angle they're using and are positioned in a way that makes use of the camera's depth of field.

I disagree with this. Locked cameras are not bad. It's a decision that can lead to more well directed scenes.
The animations were not designed for unlocked camera, and FOW's animation style doesn't really fit well with an unlocked camera either I say.

Problem is that the directed camera is kind of weak, there's no progression, and no context.
I actually brought up the problem of the camera and people wanting unlocked cameras before.

hmmm yeah. i'm surprised Pandora scenes arent pre-rendered mp4 footage like their flash games. i dont hate the locked camera aesthetically but i understand where you're coming from. Could careless if free cam looks off. At least having that as an option will offer some unique viewing experience aside from one angle. This might be one those porn games you play once in your life and never pick up again if it comes to that. why play when all the none interactive scenes are on Pornhub or something lmao

Well it mentions it being the first act of Subverse, so more or less what you saw in the first build, up to getting the treasure. Minus cinematics and fully voiced dialogue.

So yeah...woulda been a nice proof of concept to what could've been.

Side note: Man you leave the forum for a couple days, and somebody already whipped up a theory on what the cinematic milestone meant? Game with porn, not a porn game. Said it before, say it again.

The game was advertised as a porn game and still is. Subverse emphasizing the porn updates and their waifus isn't because they know people care about the story or battle portions. I know you like taking everything Subverse says as fact, but just because they say "we wanted a game with porn, not a porn game" as damage control, doesn't change what their entire funding campaign was.

Edit: None of these goals were gameplay related. The tweets and teasers they post on twitter aren't talking about the game, but the porn and it's girls.

I'm curious about the 300k goal, when they talk about interactive sex sequences do they mean a simple slider? And what are vignetes to begin with? This sounds like a preliminary idea of the pandora system but they clearly promise a ton of scenes before this goal.

Based on it being 1-2 minutes long, It have to be some kind of lewd animation. Only time will tell what they do with that promise.

There are a handful of things they described we would be able to encounter in the game during the initial funding process, things that we will obviously never see under the current Pandora system. I wouldn't be surprised if that 300k goal will be reworked into something else or scrapped entirely. Some of the old promises or 'teaser' descriptions of what we could see in the game were:

This was one of the most talked about scenes during the funding phase. It was highly anticipated for some people too. It was just swept under the rogue and now Fow pretends this was never on the steam page.

The original steam page called it a porn game in plain text. I told VValen this during one of the other 10 times he tried pushing that this wasn't a porn game and even posted some screenshots people saved of the original pages, but like always, he's backed to shutting that stuff out. Even in the current steam page, they still emphasize that the game is for porn.

This is FOW's first game right. They've got a lot of pressure from making all that money and people usually underestimate game design.

I don't feel sorry for them, but I wonder how settled the game is on a core design level.
