It honestly feels like they weren't confident enough to commit to anything.

Like the writing is a great example. The storytelling aspect of this game is actually quite good. The Senu and the Veil, with the slow realization they originally weren't religious fanatics, but created the Veil to protect themselves due to their awful birth rates. And just slowly morphed into what we see today. The lingering questions of what happened to Earth, what happened to the Solars. The where is he actually at with Erark, whose side is he actually on.

There's a lot of good writing here! But they aren't confident in it at all and constantly feel the need to fall back to porn game tropes. So you constantly get pop culture references that were dated when this hit EA. You constantly have fourth wall breaking cringy moments. You've constantly got porn game ass dialogue to fill in the gaps. There's a few moments where they actually let the writing try to hold it's own, and it's strong enough to do so but they almost immediately panic and try to make light of it again.

The gameplay is another example. They wanted to move past just being a VN to make it an actual game. And in a lot of cases this works! As a SHMUP fan this is actually quite a good one. Good varied enemies, lots of focus on solid dodging mechanics, nice mixed ships and some actually well designed boss fights. The ground combat is way too basic, but the ship stuff is quite good if repetitive.

But they never let it shine. It's instead tied to the Mass Effect style stuff and becomes a repetitive grind alongside the ground combat. It's given some leeway in that you get a couple of great boss fights during it, but it's rarely a core pillar. The ship upgrades are awful, and they never do anything more then wave clearing and the occasional boss fight.

It's a weird mix at best throughout. If you come here just for the porn it's not enough. There's only really the recruitment and the devotion scenes, with Pandora being basically another sidegame to distract when bored with the grind. If you are here for the game, it's also not enough. The SHMUP stuff works but ends up incredibly basic at the end of the day, and the constant cringe porn game dialogue will take you out of the actual writing.

It's basically hyper designed for a very specific person. The person who really likes lore and worldbuilding, is a huge pervert who can put up with porny dialogue, and also loves SHMUPs AND VNs. That's the target audience for this game. And that audience is remarkably small I have to imagine.

I don't think it's as awful as this thread is making it out to be. I had enough fun going through the story/boss fights, the devotion scenes were good, and there's enough in Pandora + getting to know the characters through the story to get my moneys worth. It's a good enough first attempt, and I imagine a Subverse 2 would have quite a lot of potential to be excellent. I just don't think it's going to really take off, and is going to be largely disliked here where the most common poster is just asking for a 1.0 save so they can browse Pandora.

Well, you summed it up pretty well.
Story is not good enough to drive you forward.
Shmup is repetative, and tbf i don't think it is good, because you are always with same weapon and just strafing is enough to grind through.
Ground is also not much on tactical side, just kill them all.
Porn could have fixed that, but it kinda didn't.

Hey QA tester, did they add a keyboard shortcut, to (automatically) "cum" in premium scenes when you are in autoplay and cant see the UI?
Or enabled the controls from PANDORA when the UI is disabled?

Can you pls suggest Studiofow to add it.
I think that was one of my earliest requests, but that hasn’t come about yet. Like many QoL stuff we didn’t see til 1.0, stuff like this is hopefully things they can work on now that the main story is complete

So couple things; the GoG version is updated. No achievements yet, they’re getting them right alongside steam’s when they’re fixed

And thought I’d pass on a message from one of the devs:

“We’ve seen a lot of comments about why StudioFow making movies, and I wasn’t sure where the best place to provide an update on this would be — so I’m sharing it here, but please ping this to the correct thread.

The reality is that making cinematics costs money. On top of that, supporting the free content we provide also comes with expenses. For example, we self-host the StudioFow website and have access to all the metrics. Here’s what’s happening: the website gets tens of millions of hits every month, with millions of downloads. Maintaining the infrastructure to support this requires a lot of time, effort, and resources. And yet, the revenue generated from the website is exactly zero.

The team is working hard to raise funds to create the next movie. Despite their work being enjoyed by millions of users every month, they’ve only managed to raise around $700 per month or so to fund new projects. That's fine, that figure makes us (I mean our business) to support the team even more, but when the interest from the public is not there, things are slowing down.

So, when people kindly tell StudioFow team to fuck off and go back to making movies, as a long time supporter of the team all I can say is, please be realistic.”

Nobody wants to be realistic. They think porn just poofs into existence for them to coom. That shit costs money, you know like simply living costs them money, is rarely a thought that seems to surface in some brains. Must be all the gooning.

You can tell this game is bad and going in the wrong direction when any negative criticism about the game being posted to the official steam forums is being locked and deleted by the moderators.

I complained about how the ground combat was still bad and you can STILL die very, VERY easily when DEVA mode is introduced and it got locked and deleted in less than an hour.

My biggest problem right now with the game is that it constantly crashes every 5-15 minutes. I don't know if it's a problem with the version uploaded here or if it also happens on Steam or GoG.

I considered buying it because it's not that bad, but €40 seems too much. 20-25 is ok, maybe I would pay up to €30, but €40 is too much.

Can someone confirm if I'm not the only one who has the problem with the crasses or if they have it on an official platform and it doesn't happen to them?

It's the version I use, the one on Steam, which is the one uploaded in the OP, but I don't know why, I'm really trying to give it a chance, but it's frustrating to constantly have the feeling of
crash now? and when it goes away, boom, crash xd

Okay that's just a blatant lie. RPGM games have dogshit gameplay that's not any less of an obstacle to unlock porn than what Subverse does. Just saying you hate the game would be more honest than propping up another dogshit porn game genre.
Hate it? No, I'm just telling the truth. You have no idea what you are talking about. Shall I break your mind even more?
Let's see how you are going to react to this.
I've played better RPGM, WolfRPG, Java and HTML porn games than Subverse.
I could give you examples but I don't want to completely break your little mind, looks like it is barely enough for you as is.

It was like that since the beginning. Imagine how many negative threads were there in previous years before they banned everyone.

i would hope that if they insist on making porn games that they actually learn about it, look around at their peers and see what works and what doesnt. Because a lot of the mistakes around the porn delivery of subverse are very rookie mistakes.

because yes there are A LOT of rpg maker slop in the market but there are RPG maker titles that are far more competent at delivering porn than subverse despite not having its presentation. i mean Karryn's Prison kicks Subverses ass any day.

I mean, you also clearly like Neptunia, that should immediately invalidate any opinion as to what constitutes 'good gameplay'. :LUL:

You're a riot, you know that?

I would have to strongly agree with this, myself I found a lot of the humour to be the kind of thing I would of found funny when I was a young teenager who just discovered swearing for the first time, but as an adult it just falls so flat. I would of loved if they made a more serious game that happens to have very hardcore porn in it.

Like, think if you were playing Mass Effect and when it came to the romance scenes seeing a very hardcore sex scene, like I feel like there is a reason why Rule 34 of well known game characters is so popular. I also found when the characters in this game are so...I don't know how to put it into words, so casual about sex it makes it less taboo so you could be watching a hardcore gangbang scene and it just feels...like, I don't know how to say it, like meh whatever?

Now imagine you were playing Mass Effect and you see a scene like that, would be a lot more hot and a lot more taboo.

As it stands this game just feels very mediocre. Also it's strange how even though I had brought the game some time ago on GOG I had to come to this site to download and play the 1.0 release, which just feels a bit ridiculous to me.

I feel you. The GOG version is unplayable for me because of the crashes. I need to use the crack version from this site to be able to play it.

I'm really disappointed that dallick didn't get any sex scenes. StudioFow is known for really hardcore and fucked up porn but Subverse seems very polite. Every aspect of this game is mid at most. I regret buying this game in early access.
Imagine seeing random dudes and dogs fucking the girls while you are left to jack off in a closet lmao
