Your relationship with her and the other residents of your neighborhood could just be the part of your hallucination. at least that's what I thought hence why its super depressing. A lonely young man living alone lusting and imagining having sexual relationship with your next door and having an affair with a young housewife, etc. Its very cliched yet it makes a lot of sense if its just a part of his imagination. Also the fact that you could "die" by having your vitality goes down to 0 by having "sex" with them despite them not being a succubus kinda strengthen the theory of its just you OD / dying from enervation
You several times talk with them outdoors. The case says these lonely men talked on their own, inside their rooms--no one ever mentions them just talking on their lonesome in public. On top of which, the case always mentioned that it seemed like, before they died, they were talking with someone outside their door. The implication being that, they didn't die to the medicine but someone outside. Also, you got yen from the salaryman who you sold recordings of You and these other girls.

The conclusion being that the third ending is a non-canon Golden Ending/Biting the Hand.

Your welcome for my excellent deductive skills and saving the H scenes for you. ;)

EDIT: Also, who the hell is the twirly-haired blonde that appears in the cover image of this thread? Don't think she ever pops up.

I also think the other girls were real. Satou says it sounds like you have sex every night but never mentions seeing anyone. Seeing no one actually is probably is why she offers her blowjob service. i think it also works with never having to hide lilim when you bring someone over because she's not real so it's a nice little detail if you notice that while playing.

The blond girl is the hooker Nanjou's husband is having an affair with. You see her one time during her substory waiting for him to get home.

Well... didn't expect that kind of ending, damn, so that's why we couldn't have any fun with that character :(. Hope there is a sequel and we return to give her some well deserved "punishment". What a great game!

Even then the situation is quite weird. Sounding like someone is having sex is very different than masturbating. She mentions offering the blowjob service because his libido seems unquenchable. All the loners were talking to someone at the door, which is totally unnecessary. I'm pretty sure what people here keep calling the "true ending" is just a Golden Ending. I think that it's a cultural issue. I don't know many Western Games that have Golden Endings, especially non-canon Golden Endings. Meanwhile it's quite common with Japanese games. A great example is Drakengard's ending E. It feels super tacked on and mostly a, 'here's what you get for wasting all this time on porn!'

Hold it! Wait on gosh darn second here, onii-chan. Didn't your neighbour see you screwing through the hole in the wall? Pretty sure that means the third ending isn't canon an actually just a golden ending.

I love the throwback artstyle this game has going on in the cutscenes. Brings me back to the days when I played straight vanilla dating sims like True Love 95 and Three Sister's Story. That said I don't think I'll be playing the sequel if it's anywhere near as dark and depressing... ok who am I kidding, I'll probably play it anyways

Nah. As said before, the police mention two things:
-The victims talked to themselves IN their room.
-The victims appeared to talk to someone AT THE DOOR before dying.

On top of which, when screwing the other girls, you can use a camera to tape this and sell it to the salaryman downstairs for cash. Unless the cashier at the store was taking imaginary money, they definitely existed. Lets also not forget that, unlike what the "true ending" showed, with the other girls you had to build up to the sex, instead of instantly receiving it like the drug supposedly did.

So, we can definitely confirm the other girls exist. Now, if we take that into account, your next door neighbor either hears or sees you having sex and complains about this. Which strongly implies Lillim exists. All the succubus you meet match the descriptions in the book at the store, despite the protagonist clearing having to idea about the variety, the names, however the hallucinations match what they're supposed to be.

To me, this seems to be the 'Golden Ending'. It is, as I've said before, different from a 'True Ending'. Usually, in Western Media, you rarely have a Golden Ending and when there is one, it also tends to be the True Ending. This is not true of Japanese games, in which Golden Endings are far more common and quite commonly aren't even canon. In case you don't know what a Golden Ending is:

In this case, it's not just a Golden Ending, but much likes Drakengard's Ending E it's a "Earn you Bad Ending/Golden Ending":

Point being, that ending seems to be a """reward""" to those that put in the effort. A sort of: "Hey, go outside now, yeah?"

Key point here is the intentionally vague "someone" at the door. Also you forgot the witch is real. Remember the witch is targeting vulnerable men who live alone. It's far more reasonable to assume that the someone at the door is the witch looking to set them up. All the victims took the drug, the witch distributed the drug, all the victims met "someone" at the door. Just because we only deal with the witch at her stall doesn't mean she didn't personally visit them. If we assume that the witch is visiting them in person and that is the someone people see, then it's also reasonable to assume that Leanna IS the witch either in disguise or warped by their perception. And other instances where the characters mention the MC "with another person" like miss peeping tom can't be relied upon because those are all witnessed through the MC's drugged state. That said, I realized one plothole while I was thinking about all this that I can't explain in all of that could destroy my theory here. Something you haven't mentioned yet. Buuuuuut I'm not telling, I want to see if you figure it out yourself.

Somewhere along the line of writing this I lost my enthusiasm for talking about this game. Though the discussion was interesting this is the end for me so sorry if I don't continue after this fellow theorist. it's probably the depression kicking in because it's 2am and I haven't slept well in months.

Yes, but as said, that's what you call a "Golden Ending", my friend. Something that works in the multiple ending framework, requires the most work, but isn't necessarily canon. Drakengard's Ending E got called the 'true ending' quite a bit in the West, despite it having been a last minute joke that most of the programmers didn't know about and was supposed to just be bonkers crazy like Evangellion, yet it still worked in the narrative and was explained to the audience in a (somewhat) reasonable way. It was, however, a non-canon Golden Ending despite you requiring a crazy amount of work to get it.

As said, for this to be the actual ending:
-We need to ignore the fact that your neighbors are definitely not hallucinations;
-One of the neighbors complains about your loud fucking;
-The succubus inexplicably all share the traits from their caste explained in the book, despite our mc having no clue about these;
-The police leave out the name of the drug, despite later in the third ending saying Succumate was the same drug found at the other households;
-You lose for not meeting the quota.

lul This is the only porn game I've seen that made people speculate this much
It's fun, ain't it?

Problem is that Drakengard’s joke ending “became canon” for nier. + in the other ends of succumate, there is always a question like “is this real/true?”. Heck, the first one is named “abnormal death case closed?”. Anyway, I don’t want to replay the game, but what hoori said “it takes a normal human 3 days to recover his energy” (or something like that) stuck in my head, maybe there is something to it? Also, in my playthrough, I only checked Lilim’s notebook, dunno if there was something in the phone or calendar.

Question as I haven't reached it yet: why did we even start calling the third ending the true ending anyway? Does the game say that anywhere? If not, then maybe we can check the japanese version or just ask the japanese fellas and put this discussion to rest. Also does the MC die in the third ending or is this a barely survived/open ended sorta deal? I've seen quite a few people in this thread speculating of a sequel and of the MC coming back.
