As I'm revisiting the game assets across multiple versions for my mod, it's amazing to realize how much Ocean has not only reworked, as we know, but often doctored and, dare I say, butchered, some of his renders for the Season 1 release, by applying some blur effect on Photoshop to hide background elements he wouldn't want to show anymore, for whatever reason, instead of re-rendering the shots. It had happened on a limited number (maybe a dozen) of shots between Chap 4.5 and Chap 5 Beta releases, but the amount has increased dramatically between the latter and the official Season 1.

They may not appear to the untrained eye but side-by-side comparison is cruel. It is also creating many continuity errors as this "doctoring" would not be consistant and some shots would be altered while the next ones would not. Even worse, there's been a couple of re-rendering dones until Ocean realized he had enough of it, and decided to blur subsequent shots instead to accelerate release time...

It happens particularly in ZPR college and the coffee shop, among many random places...
Let me give you a few examples.

Before (Chap5 Beta):
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
After (Season 1):
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
Here you might think "ok he erased the intertwined snake and leaf emblem but you wouldn't know, no artifact to be seen". Correct. How about this then ?

After (Season 1):

Notice the leaf artefact near Nami's hair, or near her left arm?
And this is not, by far, the worst example. All images showing the snake/leaf emblem or the leaf on its own have been altered in a similar way to blur them out...

Talking about continuity errors, how's this? He removed the leaf emblem from the podium in the auditorium, as evidenced here :

Before (Chap5 Beta):
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
After (Season 1):
You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
But other shots featuring the same podium have been left unaltered !

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.
Here's an example of "let's re-render these shots...oh wait no, takes too much time, let's blur the others"...
Focus on the lettering of the Coffee-shop name...

There's even an example of a blurred shot (see below) where MC is even referencing what's written on the banner, while we as a player can't even read it anymore !!

All of this "badly-doctored" artwork is evidence of a final release that was getting on his nerves, he clearly didn't want to spend additional time to get it out there. But as much as I love the game myself, and bought it on Steam on day 1, I feel this is truly a disgrace to what his game stands for in terms of render quality. I'm not questioning how valid these changes may or may not be, it's his game and he must have his reasons, but how poorly it was executed. It's even worse than that: have a look at the lake scene of topless Nami, and focus on the beer cans shots (I won't post these renders, too many already). See how some of those are re-renders where the snake logo has been replaced with the leaf (why?), but in other shots, the snake is still visible but blurred out?

All of these undoctored shots will be restored in the upcoming newer version of my mod, for those who care about such things.

I don't agree with the attacks on Robin. She was friendly with the main character in the gym. She covered the main character who entered the women's restroom, thereby putting herself at risk. Yes, she lures the MC to Zara and Nadya with lies, but they don't pose as much of a threat as Ayuya and her karate friends. The MC could simply ignore them and go back to his business, but no.

Not the smartest plot twist, but whatever. Despite the masochistic tendencies of the MC, Robin comes to the rescue again, calling Bella or Marla to free the MC. After this, at the first opportunity in the book club, Robin tries to patch things up with the MC, she is a nice girl and it seems that without a good relationship with Robin, the main character will not have a good relationship with Sasha!
First of all, thank you for not refering to the MC by that disgusting abomination of a default name! I don't care how much of a fan Ocean is of Won Piss.

Secondly, I totally agree. Clearly Robin is not fully aware of how strong the bond between the MC and Nami is. Had she known the effect it would have on him, I'm certain she wouldn't have used Nami. She also barely knows the MC at all so she opted to use the one thing that could work. It certainly wasn't nice and some animosity towards her is warranted but it's silly to hate her for that misstep after you see how much regret she has for what she did. Not forgiving her is fair, but straight up hating her for it is a bit of a stretch imo.

It is all very interesting but please....for those scrolling or with less than stellar bandwidth (it's also just good forum ettiquette), spoiler tag images if including a lot of them (especially if not going to use thumbnails).

It is strange...I'm guessing the snake/leaf logo's are not of his design and something he found perhaps? Not royalty free perhaps? Who knows...the inconsistency is weird though, like you say, almost like he just gave up heh.

Will look forward to seeing them back in as they should be :)
There are other examples of blur or re-renders I didn't mention. For example some of the cars (the Holgersons' car or Katie's car) were evidently based on Audi cars. He re-rendered the Holgerson's, but again for Katie's, he just blurred some of its features so it's no longer recognisable as an Audi. I decided the keep the re-rendering for the Holgersons', it's a minor change and has no consequence. The blurs however on Katie's :(

He really didnd't want to take any chances did he lol.

And that particular one is dumb, given everything else at that distance hasn't 'lost focus'.....*shakes head*

Season 2 - Chapter 1 - Dev Log #6
Just now
Hello,

So... The first Dev Log of Season 2 with Season 1 behind us... It feels good.

I have just added the Android version to the pinned release post of Season 1 and released the two soundtrack packs on Steam.

50% of the revenue will go to the music artist. From my various talks with different artists, I know how little (if anything) most of them make.
I wish I could've done the same for Vesky, but he's with Musicbed, so that's not going to happen.

The Intangible has been with me for a very long time, and I'd consider " " as much "SG" as most of the Vesky songs.

I only found him recently, but he was a pleasure to talk to. His enthusiasm and the fact that we're both living in Berlin only added to it. And I really liked "Flüsternde Schatten."

Sadly, I still used the old contract for Late Kids. I find them criminally underrated, and I will soon contact them to re-license the music for Season 2 and use my new contract. If they accept, I will do the same for them when S2 releases on Steam.

GOG and EPIC
Season 1 will be released on GOG on the 17th, and Epic Games on the... Yeah... Umm... They found my Steam page and are forcing me to add achievements to Epic.

Epic:
GOG:

It's a pain in the ass to add the achievements to Epic. But hopefully, I'll finish that before the 17th.
(Both pages should be available in Germany.)

I will ask them for an exception if I can't get it to work. (I saw several posts of Devs who didn't have to do it.)

Season 1's pricing and the Serene Tier.
Let me also address the new Tier. I've mentioned through 2023, that Season 1 will match the pricing of the digital storefronts.
GOG, for example, checks my other stores and matches the pricing. I can't put the pricing there myself, so I had to adjust it.

Season 2 - Chapter 1 will, of course, be available for the Summer tier. ($5) Nothing will change to the Season 2 access until it is released on the storefronts.

SG's release on Steam was nice, but the greatest thing is that no more reworks are left. I can't even describe how "light" I feel.
By far, my personal highlight.
I, of course, still stand behind the reworks. Doing it was the right choice and now that it's done, it actually feels like I finished an update for once.
Previously, I finished, for example, Chapter 4, and I knew that another 2k renders were waiting for me with the rework... And by the time that was done, I was already under some pressure to release the next update.
It slurped me mentally. But the slurping is over.

Summer's Gone - Constellations
Season 2 - Chapter 1

Season 2 gets a fancy name and a fancy new UI.
Previews
My favorite camgirl.

"Must protect."

Besides the new main menu UI, the whole dialogue display has been upgraded. (Of course, Messe created it.)
This is how it would look in Season 2.

It's centralized now, and the choice menu also looks really nice. (I'll preview it in the next log.)
Quite a huge portion of S2-Chapter 1 is under non-disclosure. Previews will be limited for a while.
But in the next log, I will show some Bellchen previews.

I think next week, I've recharged my social batteries and will start contacting a few new music artists and the ones I want to take into Season 2.
This doesn't include Grace Mesa, etc.
Due to Season 2's adult nature, we won't be hearing them again—at least until I have enough "weight" to get custom deals with the big music companies.

I'll see you in two weeks!
Two weeks later, will the DevLog be released today?

Always save your work. Always. Any program, any project, any circumstances.

Started a Daz scene to play with how to do something. Didn't save, just playing. Kept adding and figuring out stuff. Not important stuff, just stuff. Kept adding. Kept adding. Started making renders for an animation to see how it would look. Got about a third of the way through the renders. "critical failure 469". Daz disappears from the screen. Screaming. Gunfire. Explosions. Bodies in the street. Usual stuff. Three hours down the drain. Opened Daz back up, looked at the screen and closed it. Fuck it. I learned what I wanted to know for the most part but didn't get to try and convert it to video so no one gets to see it. Fuck it. Maybe I'll turn Daz back on in a few months or so. Understand Devs disappearing better now. Good thing I only use my Daz powers for evil.

Hello,

GOG now gave me the next potential release date (June 5th). Let's hope it works.
And regarding Epic, I have been getting ghosted for over a week now, and well, there is nothing I can do there until they answer.

I have also been approached by a company named Stove (Smilegate), which translates games into Korean and is similar to Steam. Just in the Korean/Asian market.
I'm still verifying some essential things before I can say more.

As always, work is being done consistently and with a newfound energy. I've not been mentioning any render counts or percentages for the same reason as why I won't be giving out any estimates that aren't set in stone.
It's peaceful.

In the last log, I previewed the new dialogue style, etc.
Messe and I have made some adjustments to it.

He reduced the size of the speaker's name and also adjusted the dialogue size.

These are just example images.
The new dialogue style won't be added to Season 1.

It looks especially cinematic when nobody speaks, and instead, it's just a general scene description.
Of course, we might still make some adjustments with the release of S2-Chapter 1.
When we test it, we must check how it looks and feels. It can't be too small, or it will tire your eyes out, etc.

I've also mentioned the new choice style.

Orange choices advance the conversation.
Blue choices allow you to ask for more info about a certain topic.
(Messe is asleep; otherwise, I would ask him to change the description of the choices in the image to what I said above. But I have an ungodly sleep schedule. Totally my fault.)

Now that the MC is slooooowly healing, you can find out more about people.

Previews - 4k attached
I did mention that I'd be showing some Bellchen previews today, but scratch that. The scene is too cute, and I don't want to spoil it. Sorry.

But don't you worry... I have the next best thing...
Marla!
Amber's therapy is paying off.

Ayua

Sonya sparring with Ayua before the MC. Sorry, MC, Sonya is her new fav.
Vic's ready to join if necessary.

And at last...
"Stop laughing, Robin!"

Ever since my PC bluescreened an hour before I first uploaded to Steam, and I found my SSD hanging from the ceiling of my PC case, the PC has been acting weird.

Regarding the workstation:
I had planned to buy the workstation directly after Steam, but I had to recalculate due to some unfortunate events.
SG's Steam release helped me, but the German gov will be very interested in the Steam/Epic/GOG release and will adjust my pre-tax for 2025 accordingly.
Always happy to finance bike lanes in Peru, Germany. :)
I will wait 2-3 months until I know what I have to pay every quarter in pre-tax, and then I'll get the new Workstation.
For transparency's sake, I was already hit with a big boy bill a few days ago because Germany thinks the pre-tax I paid for 2023 wasn't enough and now wants a little more. And it will be adjusted again due to Steam, etc.
The annoying part is that many of the things I buy for the games can't just be declared as a business expense for the year I bought them; instead, they need to be written off over 3-10 years.
Simply put, I pay taxes on money I've already reinvested in the game, which is annoying.
Thankfully, I have a competent tax office that ensures I have room to breathe.

By waiting with the workstation, I'm just being careful... Because every German knows, you don't fuck with taxes or play the song from Gigi D'Agostino, L'amour toujours.

On the bright side, I already have the A6000 ADAs I wanted, and the workstation will be cheaper than I initially anticipated.

I'll see you in two weeks.
