We know that he was affected by memory powers before turning superhuman given all the missing parts of his memory, but HAVING them before is a totally different matter. No, by 'beginning' she just means since he was infected (MC says it was the first ability he used, and he's not referring to before his rebirth as a superhuman). There's currently no reason to think MC had the memory trait before he was infected, and definitely no reason for Ella to think that.
We can assume that either :
1. If Syla was a superhuman he had a good compatibility with the memory trait thanks to her genes also being compatible.
2. If Syla was a monster he had monster genes thanks to being a monster/human hybrid.
I just had a theory:
Syla insists all the time that she is just a regular human, but also "a little more than that", could it be that she is a monster/human hibrid who was born human and then turned superhuman ??? I don't know if it's possible or if there is any advantage to that, maybe monster genes being already on someone's DNA makes a difference when the person is infected ?
