he was actually trying to make a second game, the name of which escapes me now! when he learned how to do daz modeling thats when he redid "sylphia island" into the daz rendered "sylphine"! he had also announced he was making characters for another game and had posted pics of them and stuff! not sure if that was on the "sylphia island" thread or what but i remember those being a thing and while they looked nice, i assume he was trying to do too much at once and got ahead of himself! anyway, thats all in the past now! the second game isnt gonna happen when he cant even finish the first one! again i say its too bad because the guy and his games had potential!

Fact is, even if the medical shit is valid it doesn't really matter to 99% of us. It's not a question of caring or not caring; I don't jerk off to other men's mental health issues.

I used to support maybe 10-20 creators at a time. Now I support a handful. I exclusively support creators who are *currently* producing content at a satisfactory pace. I don't care if a creator takes 10 years and 15 remakes to put out a game, but I will not involve myself in the hype, nor will I support them during that process. I pay for results, and if a creator stops producing results I stop supporting them.

I also stop supporting them the second I read anything that sounds like an excuse. Apologies are fine, excuses just piss me off.

It's important to reward good creators. It's equally important to cut support for bad creators. Part of why this whole system works is we can browse here, try a bunch of different games, and find creators who suit our individual tastes. This allows us to find content we want while also allowing creators to market their products on an open forum. The whole system starts to break down if they don't get rewarded for good content, or if they easily get rewarded for bad behavior.

personally i think that there are some execptions to any rule, like how most games with low amount of patrons get abandon but some do keep going (rise of the crime lord is one like this, the patrons amount was once below 10 (in about version 0.4) but it keeps going even now)

While I technically could, I never support a dev with money that in the process of making a game, I support them only after the game has been delivered. When there is a "completed" tag and it looks good will I support them. The one thing I see a lot of, is people who think it is all about money. You don't get into software development to be rich, as you only make money on the back end (typically), when its done, and people like it. The rarified 0.1% which can make a living based on their subscriptions, good for them. The rest of the 99.9%, sorry, that is life.

That being said, there are a few games I will help out with my time. I write walkthroughs and image guides to multiple games that I like. My time is worth a lot (I bill at $500/hr IRL), and if I spend a couple hours a month writing a walkthrough or updating a guide I created, you get the point.

There are some games, which have excellent content cycles, which people are willing to pay a good amount for. If you consistently add new content, that people feel is worth it, then fine, get paid. "Summer's Gone" is another. The Dev released 1 or 2 releases a year, but each release is over an hours worth of game play, with a great story, and awesome graphics.

I will say that some games wane over time, even with a great story, and good graphics. If the story gets too hard to follow in between the times you play, and it becomes just not worth it to follow any more. Being a DIK and WVM have gone the route for me. I just don't care any more, and will maybe play again when the are completed.

Dude, if you would be billing for that amount you would be at the minimum a DA and you wouldn't be bothering to write 'guides' to low-class/budget ren'py porn games. :D

Not every dev is in it for the money, as not every dev needs the money to survive. Some people live at home, have a day job, etc. The game creation is a side job. Look at ILS Productions, they are in their 40s, have a day job, and their two games have been side jobs.

I don't know what a DA is in this context (and google didn't help, unless you mean District Attorney). I work in IT Management, and consulting, so not a lawyer, but own my own company and do many contracts. I have to do something with my free time, why not enjoy some porn games? I mean, I am single and live alone, 50, my kids are 30 and live on their own, own my house, and am almost near early retirement due to saving my salary for many years. I like to work, and spend 12-16 hours a day in front of a computer. I have liked computers since I was 8 when I learned to program in BASIC and played games after school (Oregon Trail, Lemonade Stand, Lode Runner, etc.).

Edit: Clarity and spelling

I have subscribed to him in the past, actually. I want *regular* updates, not necessarily frequent ones, and not necessarily content updates. Progress reports are fine, for example Light of My Life or whatever it's called has maybe one update every 12-14 months, but the updates are substantial. I don't support monthly, but I still consider it a good project especially if you like that kinda sappy stuff. Anyways, the only reason I'm not currently supporting Philly is because he isn't in my current top 5. Depraved Awakening is one of my favorite projects of all time. Same with Dr. Pinkcake. There are many fantastic content creators who I do not support every month, not because I dislike them, but because I limit myself to projects I currently have greater interest in. If I listed all the projects I consider worthy of supporting my sig would be obnoxiously long.

Basically, I don't mind paying for high quality content. I don't even mind supporting creators who are actively creating high quality content. I just need to feel that the quality and quantity of content I'm receiving is roughly in line with my contributions. Shit, I dumped my sub to lewdlab for like a year and a half or more but when he rebuilt his game and released a whole bunch of content I re-subbed for a few months. I don't hold grudges, I just don't want to get ripped off.

I'd pay someone to continue this story as long as it wasn't the og dev, Seems like they won't do much.
