While I technically could, I never support a dev with money that in the process of making a game, I support them only after the game has been delivered. When there is a "completed" tag and it looks good will I support them. The one thing I see a lot of, is people who think it is all about money. You don't get into software development to be rich, as you only make money on the back end (typically), when its done, and people like it. The rarified 0.1% which can make a living based on their subscriptions, good for them. The rest of the 99.9%, sorry, that is life.Fact is, even if the medical shit is valid it doesn't really matter to 99% of us. It's not a question of caring or not caring; I don't jerk off to other men's mental health issues.
I used to support maybe 10-20 creators at a time. Now I support a handful. I exclusively support creators who are *currently* producing content at a satisfactory pace. I don't care if a creator takes 10 years and 15 remakes to put out a game, but I will not involve myself in the hype, nor will I support them during that process. I pay for results, and if a creator stops producing results I stop supporting them.
I also stop supporting them the second I read anything that sounds like an excuse. Apologies are fine, excuses just piss me off.
It's important to reward good creators. It's equally important to cut support for bad creators. Part of why this whole system works is we can browse here, try a bunch of different games, and find creators who suit our individual tastes. This allows us to find content we want while also allowing creators to market their products on an open forum. The whole system starts to break down if they don't get rewarded for good content, or if they easily get rewarded for bad behavior.
That being said, there are a few games I will help out with my time. I write walkthroughs and image guides to multiple games that I like. My time is worth a lot (I bill at $500/hr IRL), and if I spend a couple hours a month writing a walkthrough or updating a guide I created, you get the point.
