Anyone else play this game and think it would make a great television series? Namely for premium channels since cable restrictions may cause issues. I'd think maybe Showtime or Starz would be best since HBO already has Game of Thrones (and soon its many prequels) to fill the epic fantasy genre.

Has Sierra ever considered selling film or tv rights to her work?

I don't know how well it would translate to TV, especially the more subtle magic segments. The split choices inherent in the game also would pose a problem.

I don't think she's ever mentioned anything about selling the rights.

Everything taken from print to screen has issues and compromises. I'm just fantasy booking a bit. Interesting to see someone try though.

So uhm.. question: I did play way, way back this game but I never got around a simple matter. In this game.. you play as someone who you create, or you play with someone else? Because last time I played this, I named the "supposed" hero in the beginning but he ended up killed and I started playing with.. Simon I think was his name? That old geezer who supposedly was the.. someone who had to help the hero? Is still like this? With a default chars with his own name?

Thanks for the answer(s) c:

You play as Simon, he doesn't stay as an old guy, he gets sex power, but he is his own character.

It's just one of those starts meant to throw in a little twist that starts you off as a douche and then [puts you in control of the actual main character.

It's not that I hate the guy or anything, but personally speaking I enjoy more those kind of games who gives you the opportunity to choose your own name, and be the hero of that story and since I remembered that, I hoped that something would've changed through the game. Guess that I'll play as him, even though again like I said, the idea doesn't "excite" me that much.

This game is not a porn game. Its one of the best 16 bit RPGs I've played in general though. Probably ranks in top 10 along with titles like FF6, chrono trigger, etc. While it can't compete on the artistic or musical side, the scale of the plot and characters are definitely on par. In terms of combat, RPGM can only go so far, but the unique skillsets do a really amazing job of defining each character in battle. Mechanically speaking, this game has the absolute best game balance. There is limited amount of exp because of no grinding spots, and gold so hard to come by that you can hardly buy anything. That might sound bad, but it really makes you think about what equip you want to buy and try to fight strategically instead of grinding for lvls. Then there is the whole political and economic management stuff has a lot of depth.

You shouldn't pass on it just because you can't name the guy heh. I mean, how much does a name really change in terms of immersion? By the way, Simon IS the hero of the story. You play as the young guy only in the short intro. "The Chosen" is like a recurring joke char in this game.

Meh, it's still totally an erotic fiction game... which i consider a kind of "porn". I reject the idea that erotic fiction must lack a compelling story. Never mind the idea that having a compelling story makes it not be erotic fiction any more.

Please. Let's not say heresies here. Don't compare games like the first FF and Chrono trigger to this porn game here, please. Let's leave aside those and talk about this right now. You can compare this with others porn game, but not with AAA out there, even if you mean only the gameplay and such.
Now, I honestly don't care what you think about the whole "naming" the char matter here, but for me is very important, enough to feel totally immersed in a game. In fact most of the japanese VN available in English were you have to play with a determined characters because obviously was made in that way, it's always.. enjoyable for me at 70-80% and not completely. And the same it's even for the RPGMaker games as well as the ren'py ones (and as well as even the AAA games out there, but since are not porn let's leave them out of this). Maybe for you doesn't matter and you're more accustomed to look at the story and such, but for me it's a again a very serious matter.

Ok, I will concede the naming thing. I guess thats a personal issue.

But lets look at SNES RPGS. How many are actually better than this one in terms of gameplay, plot and characters? I specified that I wasn't counting the art direction or musical score since those aspects are obviously impossible to match for a dev of this scale using RPGM. I cannot find more than 10 that is better than this, and I've played nearly all the big SNES titles over the years.

1. FF6
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Mario RPG
4. Tactics Ogre
5. FF4
6. Front Mission
7. Bahamut Lagoon
8. Romancing Saga 3
9. Tales of Phantasia
10. FF5

I never played earthbound, sorry. Also Dragon Quest series slipped by me.

Ok and some of these are tactical RPGs so they might not belong on the list if we are dealing with traditional jRPG. Secret of mana, Seiken densetsu 3, terranigma, Zelda are great games that would belong in a general list but I left it out since those are action RPGs.

So anyways, looking at that list. I can place this game at #6 or 7 if we are looking at gameplay, plot, and characters. If we look at the game as a whole, maybe it wouldn't stand up to the production value of the AAA titles, but I honestly think the 3 criteria I mentioned is the most important thing in an RPG. The reason FF6 and Chrono trigger always take up the top 2 in any list by anyone ever is because it does all 3 of those things masterfully + have amazing visuals and some of the most memorable soundtrack in gaming history.

This game has a plot and world building that is honestly close to the top RPGs. The cast is large and they all have a very distinct and fleshed out personality. The gameplay might be open to interpretation, but I think its commendable that the dev achieved such a delicate balance in combat difficulty. Running around the whole town and talking to everyone and building RP and stuff might not be as elegant as the AAA titles, but it is a harem game after all.. and the economic stuff on this scale was never seen in other RPGs. You can't honestly say this game is worse than like Breath of Fire II or something though.

Well, if we aren't counting action RPGs then Tactics Ogre probably shouldn't count either... as it's a turn based tactics game.

Also, no Breath of Fire love? For shame!

Seriously though, story and concept wise, yes, I'm on board with comparing The Last Soveriegn with classic AAA JRPG titles. Even top tier ones.

I'm okay with naming this along side AAA titles of the same genre and style. If this had released (say minus the erotica) from a larger development studio I wouldn't complain.

Just like old school RPG's it's given me 80+ hours of enjoyment and i've enjoyed both the story and the gameplay. I do enjoy grinding in RPG's and while this doesn't have the grind it does have plenty of combat and enough characters for me to switch up parties to try new things if I start to find it stale.

The characters are all well written and are enjoyable to get to know, even the antagonists.

With how much thought and work has gone into the systems that make up for war scores, city scores, voting, funding and general gameplay I don't see why this can't be considered alongside AAA RPG's.

Sierra has put more thought, care and work into this than Bethesda did into Fallout 76 and that's a full price AAA game.

Look at all the amateur devs on Steam selling Unity asset flips, cheap survival games and general shit. This can't be counted the same as those.

There's a reason she's getting 5k a month for a shitty ero text rpgmaker game.

I could easily put this on my top 10 best rpgs list, right with the likes of Suikoden II, Chrono Trigger, FF6, FFT and Tactics Ogre.

I've postponed my Divinity Original Sin playthrough for this game.

If they end up doing scenes once the game is done, I hope Sierra doesn't get rid of the text that they currently have, but rather "augment" it by putting it behind the text. That wouldn't work very well for some of the scenes though, as even if she gets a good contrast between text and scene, it might not end up looking good. The only other thing I can think of is to have an option to have only text, or scene with text at the beginning of the game and then have the gallery that becomes accessible later have an option of how to view them.

I know that it isn't very likely that it'll be done very soon, let alone at all. If she ever does it, I hope that these options are considered, as I wouldn't want the feel of the game to be ruined by forcing the players to experience it completely different to how they used to.
It can work pretty well actually, just look at games like Eiyuu Senki.

Gameplay/Story driven game where the scenes are a bunch of bullshit text with 1/2 high quality token cgs just to give the scene some grounding.

Like aligning the text with a single token cg that kind of sums up the overall feel of the scene.

I don't mean to be insulting but I can't help but ask, what are you talking about?

Pros- 60+ hours of gameplay, near a hundred well written scenes, non grinding combat, Amazing story, a world affected by your actions, great well written characters, and a developer that actually works well with feedback, and more!

Cons- Can't name the main character.

Looks like the cons have it!

Like you can get my utter confusion right? Again I don't want to be mean I just want you to explain this to me, but it's like you are refusing the game because there is an 'S' in the title, or because one of the characters has blond hair.
