Dev update (2023-07)

Blah, blah, blah... tons of work, events progressing fine, etc. Let's skip the nonsense and talk roadmap.

Next update (part) should be out in weeks time (3-4) weeks. Version 0.3 will be released in a slightly different cycle than usual (alpha / final) because I am still working on some events, some event variations and other things that keep coming. Meaning ? It will release in different alpha parts. First alpha part will be the bigger one and will include most events that I consider closed from a narrative stand-point. With that as a base, I can keep including the rest of events and variations without anything feeling disjointed. That's the objective at least, let's see the results.

Version 0.3 won't be fully finished (final) until we clearly have a minimal set of events that explain Paula/Agnes/Richard/Rebeca story lines from both past / present perspective. I guess that I'll need three alphas for that. Second and third alpha will be much smaller in size and development time because most of events are already started and renders exist already. That's my bad for starting too many things at the same time.

Now let's flesh things out.

1. QoL changes.

1.0 Text shall be always the same color for all characters. Character names may have their own color.

1.1 No more bubbles. Think / Whisper / etc. will be handle as most other VN(s) do.

1.2 Opacity slider. It should help with the readability issues on screen basis. Just slide up / down to get less / more opacity.

1.3 A draft version of the gallery. Pretty basic, and I'll keep enhancing it to allow a better user experience.
It shall:
1.3.a Include all events, blurred if unlocked.
1.3.b Some sliders to modify the characters stats and play the event differently.
1.3.c Specific check boxes for conditions (Rebeca [ kiss_oli = yes/no ]) (not in 0.3.alpha.1)
1.3.d Ability to carry decisions from the replay to a save (not in 0.3, if at all)

1.4 Marinette can be disabled. It pains me because I like her side story, but players should be able to skip on it if not interested.

1.5 Music & SFX. This one is tricky. I'll include several SFX to enhance the experience, things like "waves", "shower sounds", etc. that shall play on the background (very low volume though). Some events will include music, usually dark and gloomy since it will match the story bits. Mostly classical bits. NO music / SFX during sex. No pasta noises, no machine generated moans. As I player I don't like them, and it is difficult to ship something that I feels doesn't look "good". But as a dev I should keep in mind player's wishes, so this could change. I guess some people might like hentai noises, I literally mute the hell of that shit.

1.6 Compressed version. My dev build current hit 10GB (scenes only) game is closer to 11GB. Even if I changed from png(s) to webm(s) that spares "only" 2/3GB. So, I'll be including some sort of compressed version. I am thinking where to put everything though. Probably itch.io.

1.7 Post work. I am working on including some general post-work actions to the Daz renders. The only post-work I do is literally adding some text here and there, drawings of kids or the cat-PoV we had in Clara Bittersweet (green looking renders). I focus too much on delivering "feelings" to bother on post-working all my renders. That would be insane. Let's see how that plays out. It looked quite promising to be honest (original on the left, some high-pass filter on the right, notice sharpness in the lines).

1.8 Act based story. This is a very rough draft in 0.3.alpha. Now a player shall be able to activate an "act based mode" that will "limit" the available events to those related to the current act. So, the event selection screen will show only events related to the current act. That should create a more "linear" story.

2. Content

Content wise we are going to see a bit more dynamism, as in chained screens. No animations in 0.3. First animations are reserved for Irwin and I want to check Blender for it. If things go well, they might expand somewhere else. But I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

Paula is going to receive its first full sex scene. Technically, Anton sex scene is the first one. But that was more about showing off to Mr. Smith or her slight feeling of disappointment. Next sex scene will be more fleshed out. A lot of other sexual stuff though. The Theater is about the feeling of shame, humiliation, feeling like a whore, turning into one, accepting yourself as one, or not, etc. not as much as sex itself.

A lot of content coming in 0.3. I mean it. I recently hit 4000, 10GB png, renders in my current build (scenes only). That will increase once my GPU finishes its nightly job. By the end of 0.3 I expect the amount of total scene renders to be twice as in 0.2.final. So, 0.3.final shall close to double the current content.

As it happened with previous version. I actually feel a bit bad when I made such a long time update w/o adding content to a character. So, for the one or two Olivia fans we are actually going to see how her week as a pleasure slave ended and a very small event with Rebeca to learn a bit more about her daemons. This render is in progress, there are actually not that many people around. It is Wednesday midnight in a medium size city after all and people work.

Getting closer and closer to the release day. Here one of the renders of the hopefully last scene I am working in. This particular render belong to another event where a fresh eighteen Paula Green is taken for a trip by Sophia Grant (back), which is opened in the scene I am working on as she recalls her past.

The release is still planned to happen in around 2 weeks. I hope that I'll be done with the all the text. Some events might be a bit different from alpha to final, but there still some things that I don't fully like but won't fit the puzzle until everything is together. For instance I have Richard doing A TON of exposition in one scene and I don't really like that.

Oh... and other that that. Since I am planning to add the replay function and many events are triggered in existing events. It is likely that old saves won't work. I am very sorry about that. I'll still open all events anyway so it should be "playable", but from a narrative stand-point they won't make so much sense as replaying the whole bit. Luckily enough, it is just a matter of skipping the whole prologue until Paula sees Rebeca.

PS. I put a couple of renders in the "Show us your Daz skill" thread (https://f95zone.to/threads/daz3d-art-show-us-your-dazskill.4764/post-11407623). I guess some of you will like them. I am trying to see if the general player feels my renders are good or a "piece of shit".

I really tried not to post or even look here repeatedly, but your game was very often on my mind. The size of the new update seems amazingly big, especially considering how much story even the "much smaller" first ones sported. But I still know it will be played through much to quickly ;) . But that only speaks for an excellent game!

Which makes it so much more mature than those serial-sex-scenes-games without much story. Maybe I watched too much porn in my life, but I crave more for a thrilling story than hot scenes (even though they do complete a good story).

Oh, I kinda liked your special way of presenting thoughts, whispers and so on. Unusual, but outstanding in a good way. But not that I would mind it much.

If it is possible, please make sure to really blurr the scene so it is still a riddle what's behind it. I don't like this kind of spoiler when looking at the gallery. After three or four play-throughs, I just want to know if I missed something, not what exactly.

To be blunt, of course the right image looks a little better (her top expecially), but I would not trade one even one more day till release for all the post work. It is your story, your pace, your poses, your camera focus, your way of letting the characters speak and a very good graphics, but not the latest polish. If I had to choose one element of the ones mentioned before to go missing from your stories, the visuals would be the first ones by far. I think even a text adventure in C64-style would be thrilling from you :) . So I am glad to read that you are not going to spend a lot of time with them.

So you will deploy two ways of playing the game? A "sandbox stile" where we can play in free scene-order but have to live with the consequences of missing certain untriggered events. And a "director's cut" where you suggest your way of playing through to get "the most" out of it?

Oh my, so thrilled to get a new release of one of my two favourite games... but still find it "sad" that I cannot support you a little with some $. It honours you, though!

Hi there. I am alive. I am sorry I have to break the promise and write before the update is out but I have been struggling the last days with a couple of issues.

The first one was the gallery. I had a problem related to how Ren'Py treats variables and flow-control which made me struggle to make it work as I want. I have managed to find a workaround so I am kind of "happy" with the result. It looks a bit plain, but I'll work on the eye candy in the alpha.2.

The second and biggest one was a writing problem. I wanted to include a particularly hot sex scene for Paula, which is also quite long altogether. But I didn't manage to make it fit narrative wise (grrr...). I have tried rewriting it several times, as well as other events related to it, from different perspectives but so far no luck. It just doesn't fit the story right now. So, I'll move it to a later alpha. See if the inspiration comes.

Instead I am including two other events to give Paula more depth which only needed small tweaks. One is finished already, the other is all rendered and I only need to make Paula explain something related to her pilot.

I should be able to package everything tonight, set up an itch.io page and upload the whole thing.

Hey, no problem, take your time. I can't wait to play your great game, but it is completely unterstandable that some delays are occuring :) .

I do not envy you the part with tinkering with the Paula scene. If you have something on your mind and think this is so great, but it does not fit anywhere, it is so tempting just to rush it in somewhere. Glad you did not do that.

If you don't mind you could elaborate on the RenPy variable treatmend a little, sounds interesting.

Nice, one of the few pervy games out there so glad this got updated. I had to start over, not sure if that was intentional, but I really didn't mind it was good to go back through everything.

Let me know if you find any issues. There have been so many changes that I don't know whether anything works if at all.
I added it here. But I didn't know if you would want it promoted or not since it's Alpha and didn't know how close the final was as you can only get promoted every 2 weeks, but if you want on the front page and promoted just reply and I will report it and it will get added to the latest updates page.
