I wish our monsters could breed with each other.
Goes into the same category as raiding and hunting, i.e. of 'minions do too much'. The whole game would need to be
totally rebalanced and your dragon would become even less of a factor. Minions already dominate combat too much.
I'm not interested in a minion-themed version of TfD. If someone is and makes a sub-mod, I don't mind, but I'm not going to do it myself.
It takes so damn long to get any kind of minions with just the dragon doing all the work.
With breeding pits and a Huge+ dragon, all your pregnant captives should be giving birth once per sleep cycle.
So I think I have a solution to how insanely rare high level encounters and lairs are to find.
Which encounters? You can hunt for most of the staple ones, and those that are still rare are usually rare for a reason. If you have examples of what should be more common, do tell.
Lairs will get a separate 'hunt' option and perhaps some weight increases.
It would make sense that the more powerful the dragon gets, the more he just completely ignores low level encounters and goes out of his way to look for higher level encounters.
Not really. The 'ignores low-level' is already there, it's the 'pass' choice in all encounters. Going out of his way to look for what he wants is exactly that,
going out of his way and cycling encounters until he finds one.
The reason it's like this is to actually simulate dragon life a bit. A big dragon doesn't automatically change all traders into rich merchants and all castles into palaces. He has to work for it, and gets more tools to do it (stamina, satiety reserves, combat power), so he already has a significant leg up on the wimpy little lizards.
