Yeah, he hired another artist named JayMarvel to do those. Unfortunately he frequently abandons the game and only comes back to milk the fanbase for money, according to rumor.
I hope he replaces them. I would prefer good quality static images over crappy animations any day of the week. It is specially glaring with the new pool pictures, which seem to be of a different artist with a style highly similar to GlassFish but better, with more detail, or GlassFish himself with a WAY better inking technique or a partner:
