Hey Mr. Dev, since you asked in the Syahata's Bad Day thread about feedback for your game a while ago, I thought I'd oblige. I'm gonna be pretty honest and try not to sugarcoat things, so if it comes off as rude and offensive, this isn't my intention.

First off, since I won't speak for everyone, here are my tastes as per what fetishes are included in Valkaree:
1. I do like non-con
2. Ryona can enhance the experience in my opinion. In itself ryona doesn't do anything for me.
3. I'm indifferent to guro. Don't really care either way - but if an enemy that I'd like to have an h-animation only has a guro one I'm getting annoyed.
4. Also indifferent to necrophilia with maybe a slight distaste for it.
5. I don't like corruption.

With that out of the way, I will compare Valkaree to SBD:
The first obvious difference is the art style. I do like me some anime pixel art but that of course is very subjective. I do not like the artstyle many western erotic games use, more often than not the women look like glamazon blowup dolls that have the fashion sense of a backwater strip club in the middle of nowhere. While it may seem like a minor issue, compare the choice of clothing in games like Syahata's Bad Day to Valkaree.

The second is the general tone of the game. While SBD is very obviously a porn game, it doesn't run on porn logic 100% of the time. What little interaction we have with other people (the teacher in this case) seems pretty normal. Meanwhile, in Valkaree, the Lieutenant forces you to suck his dick for "training purposes". It's basically a normal setting with horny monsters vs. a porn setting with horny monsters. Again, may look like a minor difference but matters to me.

Third one is enemy variety. It's basically expected for an h-game to have about 2-3 enemy types per level. SBD's first stage has 3 enemies, male and futa zombies as well as giant flies. Meanwhile, Valkaree has one enemy type for 3 stages. And I have to say, the zombies don't look that good, either - they're scrawny little humanoids that remind me more of the typical grey alien, albeit slighty decayed.

Fourth one is gameplay. SBD draws inspiration from Antophobia and Parasite in the City, both of which combined the typical Resident Evil-like survival horror with porn. Valkaree is more of a sidescrolling arena-shooter with one single weapon. Sure, you can upgrade it, but it's still one weapon. Some variety goes a long way, just like it is with enemies.

Fifth is how the animations happen. I'm a big fan of animations happening during the actual gameplay, I don't like it that much when the game switches screens when animations occur. Also, in Valkaree, the animations are quite... stiff, I'd say? SBD has much more fluid and expressive ones. Anime artstyle helps here as well since it's easy to convey expressions with that.

Hope this helps. I know that the game is probably too far into development already to make major changes but maybe it's some food for thought for the next one. Wish you all the best, IMO the adult gaming scene needs honest and motivated devs. Too many devs are just in it for the money, I think.

When you select monica level do you hear the background wind, and does anything happen if you press 'z'?

Gonna keep my reply short as I'm a little pressed for time but first off - thanks for taking the time to write this up. There are simply some things I can't do, mainly the anime style. And if I could turn back time (queue Cher) I'd change up a lot of stuff, but this has been a learning project that evolved into my very first game and my next one will be better planned.

I'd have done many things differently if SBD was out before I started building my game. It's a great example of what works well, and just a great game overall.

i wonder, do you have a team for this or do you do it all by yourself?

No worries. SBD gets carried hard by its art and animation quality, like the vast majority of h-games. If Valkaree featured the same I'm pretty sure it would blow up in popularity as well. You don't necessarily need to adopt an anime style, but if you're struggling with art and animation that will probably always a bottleneck.

Also, I'd recommend looking at Antophobia and Parasite in City as well if you're interested in that kind of genre for your games.

Honestly, Syahata's Bad Day isn't really a great "game", it has good h-animations and CGs, but i don't think it's a great example for a good ryona/guro hgame. You can find that in Sword of Ryonasis...plus the style of Val Karee is really great and unique, another anime style game would not be as original.

I've never played Antophobia, but i will try it. On the other hand, parasite in city is too vanilla and with too few animations and CGs, I hope it WON'T be inspiration for Val Karee

It's more about the inspiration how these games function. For example, SBD, Antophobia and Parasite in City are slow and deliberate games, much like the first few Resident Evil or Silent Hill games were. Which mixes surprisingly well with the porn element, having to fight one or two enemies at most means you can specifically choose which animation will play in the vast majority of cases. While all these games feature some kind of "flee from the horde" or "stand your ground" scenarios these are the exceptions while in Valkaree, this is pretty much always what's happening.

Which would mean that IF Valkaree had more than one enemy type, it would be very difficult to get "caught" by the enemy you want to get caught by. To most players this seems like insignificant theoretical nonsense but from a dev perspective, these things are pretty important. Most players will also often realize that something feels off but aren't really able to communicate why something feels that way.

I get it, but both the resident evil and silent hill saga aren't really my cup of tea and are just a meme to me, and SBD has one of the worst gameplay ever, so taking inspiration is ok, but doing their own thing and experimenting is better.

PIC is actually the primary inspiration behind my game. That's why the game controls are very similar (shift to aim, single shots, reload, kneel, etc). To me it's the gold standard. Not perfect, but given when it was created -- and it's ability to lay out an entire plot without a single word of dialogue -- speaks to how brilliant it is. And the animation style is right up my alley.

Anthophobia was fun but I never finished it -- it was a little too complicated for me to put the time into, and the anims were too crude to keep my attention. A good game for sure just not for me.

Honestly, Syahata's Bad Day isn't really a great "game", it has good h-animations and CGs, but i don't think it's a great example for a good ryona/guro hgame. And that's the thing - in many ways, SBD really isn't that great of a game. The running is slow, the anims are too pixelated, the controls are clunky, the combat is predictable, the backgrounds are simple. But what it did do was make me want to continue. I wanted to play through, I wanted to see what was in the basement, what was in the gym, what was through the next door. The dev captured my attention and made me want to play even with the shortcomings. And it made me rethink a lot of what I did / am doing with VK. My anim style probably won't change much, but the gameplay, dialogue, etc will be refined in my next game.
