I must have missed this when it was posted. What I don't understand out of all of that is, if the developer was the only one who knew what he/she was gonna write next, meaning none of us knew, then how would it be any different if someone else were to just make something up and write it, as long as the material was good?
If you really don't understand what difference a change in author could make when the rest of the story is unknown, I'll try to explain.
Let's take some well known fantasy authors, as an example - say J.R.R. Tolkien and George R.R. Martin. Without entering into any debate over which is the better writer, or which fantasy world is best, it should still be clear to everyone who has read them both that they have completely different styles of writing.
Now let's say that you started out reading a book which was written by one of them, and halfway through, the other one took over the writing. Do you really think that any perceptive reader would fail to notice the shift in style and tone? It would be as plain as day. You would probably even be able to point to the exact point where one writer replaced the other.
Of course, DRG was no Tolkien or Martin. He wasn't a great writer. But he wasn't half bad, as far as adult game developers go, and he had his own style. If someone else started writing the game, I'm pretty sure that I would be able to tell the difference.
No one made that assumption. And assuming the original developer is the only person who can write is pretty bold.
It's not only different because it's a porn game. That's not even the biggest difference. The biggest difference is that Star Wars is a property with a long history of iteration, not a single project which was taken over midway by a different author/artist/programmer. Each new installment of Star Wars exists as a separate and distinct work, and each one is judged both as a unique work and as a part of an established universe. This is why some installments of Star Wars are widely approved, and some are widely hated. But, as far as more people finishing an already started story...look at Star Wars. I know, it's in multiple different "episodes" or "chapters" or whatever...but that many people all writing pretty much the same continuous story...even though a lot of it was written off as non-canon, people still enjoyed it. I know I did. I bought a couple books and had them signed by the writers. lol
Yeah..this is porn games. It's different, I guess.
Valiant Warrior Astrid is not a property which is being produced as multiple independent installments within a well established continuity. It is a single story about a single character, and it is unfinished. For someone to take the game over at this point and try to complete it would not be like hiring a new writer to produce a new Star Wars story which fits into the already existing universe. It would be more like what happened when Joss Whedon took over Justice League from Zack Snyder. People didn't know how Zack Snyder had intended the movie to turn out, but they knew what was delivered wasn't what had been promised.
