He is not the first such, I do not know what drives them. Maybe some kind of illness, lost interest, no time, anything can serve unfortunately.
For example, there is one developer who created one of my favorite games in this genre (the game itself is not something outstanding, I just fell in love), then for a year and a half he added content to it, because the game seemed empty to him. And so it was. Then for another year or two he thought about what to do, started making some kind of game, and immediately abandoned it. Then he decided to take up drawing art. And in the process of drawing, he realized that he wanted to make a sequel for his first game. And now he has been creating it for more than a year, but progress there, to put it mildly, is weak. He will probably do it like that for another 2 years. But no one rushes him, because for so many years everyone has already got used to him, and he does not receive anything from subscriptions in practice, rather he does it for himself.
All this to the fact that I gave an example of a typical developer of such games, there are worse options, but it remains to be hoped that they will continue on their way.
