What exactly does this do? the example image isn't great.

Subsurface scattering is to simulate translucende of skin and underlying veins under it, giving correct glow of the skin. Not sure that is what he is looking for?

While it looks kinda nice, especially with the reflective/translucence. It kinda just highlights the blemishes that i don't like.
