But, as far as I know, in all sorts of "quests with pictures" the creators mainly use blender + some sort of rendering engines.
A good amount of recent games have also been using screenshot of other games such as Koikatsu and Honey Select, despite those tools being much more limited. I assume it's because those games are more accessible than Blender, especially when you compare the time it takes to render images as opposed to taking screenshots of something adjustable in real time. I personally dislike the look of games that use Honey Select screenshots, so I hope to see VAM used more often because it looks a lot better while still being more accessible than Blender.

Of course, here's a clarification. In the image below, we see the following types of detail, which are simply pointless to add to games. We are talking about traces of human carelessness, where, we can outline the following abstractions: red sector - painted over bullet holes; orange outlines - traces of contamination; blue areas are door hinges; the area with traces of dampness is highlighted in green. Accordingly, either we are talking about a plug-in "additional reality" for VAM or some person who modeled the scene was a hyper-perfectionist, and created such extravagant textures, and even with normals.

What are the criteria of consistency, with what exactly? Are you talking about the expectations of a certain target group? In my opinion, if we talk about the materials of the room, then it is worth working with the carpet (with a reflection coefficient), as well as placing furniture so that it does not fall under the floor.

As for "bloody hard", then usually such emotional experiences, in relation to intellectual work, the result of low qualifications. Accordingly, you should first learn something to a good level and only then move on to practice:

Yes but Specular Response is very dependent on the lighting and distance (macro space) the oilyness params of the persons skin and overall that skin above is in it's overall response not very realistic you can get this kind of white in overcast with some very pale human with a very thin dermis but it looks different you mostly get it in bath environment GI.

Though real skins color and light reaction is hyper complex so complex we hardly realize it in real life anymore that we can be kind of a chameleon

Though these days we see a lot of unnatural light reactions due to lots of makeup as well (Foundation,Skin Toner,Powder)

Eye Reality is slightly different than Artificial Optical Lense Reality as well only since a relative short time period we try to mimic HDR and Subsurface Scattering in Cameras and Digital Results and it often still looks funny compared to how our eyes are actually percepting it.

Well, I did not claim that the presented sample of skin is an ideal, that images have relatively greater realism (in comparison with Anna's skin). At the same time, I believe that the only way within which we can create realistic skin for a virtual VAM environment is multispectral imaging of real human skin in order to build luminosity maps:

The image above shows the exceptional visible spectrum, and as we can see, the appearance of the skin directly depends on the temperature of the luminous flux. At the same time, as we understand on an ordinary sunny day, the full spectrum falls on the human skin, but at the same time, depending on the angle of inclination of the skin surface, it is re-reflected in a narrower spectrum, which gives skin tones.

At the same time, it is also important that melanin has a different reflectance coefficient in relation to the wavelengths of the visible diapason (see diagram above). I believe that skin imaging is a multifactorial system with many variables, the number of which is large, but still finite. Therefore, creating realistic skin in a virtual environment is a solvable task that may require additional research.

By the way, this imposes the need to revise the logic of the slots for the characteristics of the skin in VAM, in theory, each individual material should have a local subsystem of reflection maps, bump maps, etc., where the area of application should be determined by the alpha channel.

Epic is going to push MetaHuman we gonna see how that is going and how the Saas approach is going to look like in the End :)

Epic has reached a very interesting state with it now through the acquisition of 3Lateral and Cubic Motions ML work floating into their Cloud Creator.
And they indirectly start to make some shake their shoes like Reallusion and Daz
But we are overall very far away from the Perfect Simulation not including the AI

I think it's very nice that we have currently this indirect battle between Unreal and Unity on this part :)

It's interesting that Crytek has slowed down on this they still had the lead

But VAM combines so much complexity of every part of the simulation chain together :)

It will be really interesting to see how fast other Unreal Powered Projects gonna reach it like Holodexxx,Captain Hardcore or Naughty Sandbox they are still a mini part of the overall VAM possible Realtime complexity, but well see and they're still new projects trying it inside of Unreal :)
