The future of the project Vis and Mad King games.

Hi mates! I hope all is good with you!
There is a time in our lives when for the sake of sanity, we take a few moments and think of what we achieved and what we will ......acters for the new game.
Sad to hear you will stop development on Vis, it had some of the best set-up around. But I wish you luck on your next project. I do hope you hear the same warning I gave earlier about Vis and other games like it: please do not aim too high. Wanting too much is what leads to the very health and time problems you adressed. If there's one critism I have about Vis, is that it stopped keeping it simple. The basics were the best part. Please start small and don't overpromise, even to your self. The best games are always the ones that are realistic about their abilities and time management. If the game is done and 70% of artwork is finished, then start adding other things. Theres no need to burn yourself out. Health comes first.

Honesty, transparency, and a thoughtful explanation of his intentions and desired plans. I respect that a lot.

And it makes sense that Mad King was a fan of DA:O; easily one of the high points for character and world building in video games. Having that as your internal standard is motivating but also risky.

How far along is Chapter 2?. Any Going bad options for the protagonist, joining demons type of thing?. It has been a while since I last played and have forgotten if player can do so. I remember there was a twist ending for chapter 1. I really like options to be a Hero or be an Anti-Hero. By the By I remember Chapter 1 being amazing.

If Vis is Morrigan's twin does that mean he will get some kick ass supernatural looking wings and Power?

Well, it's a tragedy. It was goddamn gem this game. Looking back, this was my top game which I enjoyed playing. Not to keen on fucking left and right like most of the games out there, this one did something far better (for me at least) : gave food for thought and soul. It was there in some strange times for me and actually inspired me with a quote or two. Gave me hope.

Saying that about a pornograhic game probably makes me sound crazy or silly. Or both. But tell you what, all the best people are and I don't care.

I couldn't support the game financially (because of having financial issues myself) , but I said some nice and honest words on most of the updates after I played them. I regret not being able to do more.

To you specifically, Mad King: You have a gift the likes of which I've rarely seen. You have a way with words, a natural talent to envision a universe full of magic, misery and happiness, pain and hope and so much more , all of which came from within . A tremendous potential, which nurtured enough, can lead you across the stars.
I hope you find your passion again, recharging your spirit by rekindling that flame, and DON'T EVER GIVE UP. Like the mc in the game : will you fall like the rest or rise above them like a true king ? The choice is yours :)

The future of the project Vis and Mad King games.

Hi mates! I hope all is good with you!
There is a time in our lives when for the sake of sanity, we take a few moments and think of what we achieved and what we will achieve, while keep walking on a certain path.
So I did the same with Vis. Since I first had the idea for the game, back in 2019, I wanted to deliver an experience that would at least rival the one that Dragon Age managed to inflict on me. I wanted to create a world where experiencing a micro world would lead to a macro. Based on an entire plot that would question existence itself.
So I took this quest, I bought a small boat and set sail for the unknown waters. As I was navigating, I encountered good weather and bad. Even, sometimes I've encountered monsters that I would have never thought existed, and yet we fought back. But with every storm and every fight, I would lose sailors, and I am here at this point, where I know there is still so much, until the end, that I think to myself if I should sacrifice more. I realize, that the boat and the gear are insufficient for the journey. Therefore I have to go back.
Coming back to more, modern words, I have gone through perspectives about the future of Vis. Since it started I sacrificed so much free time and to some extent, mental health that it steadily transformed from passion to a job. And I ended up in this place where I finish my daily job, sign out and then sign in to my second job, Vis. In time, this type of approach erodes your will. Also, since I started increasing the quality of the renders, I managed to add more time to the vis development. A time that only I would sacrifice. And then, the question came: "Is it worth it?".
To have an idea, in the current pace and funding to deliver the whole story, just with this character, I would need three more years, at least, to finish it.
Initially, I would say yes, for the remaining fans, but as the months passed, the numbers were in a continuous dive. And so the question doesn't get an answer.
On the other hand, as I mentioned above, the project has become more and more demanding. I started spending less time with the family, I started sleeping less, around 6 hours at best, and it also affected my performance at my current job. So I decided I needed to bring back my passion for developing games.
So, I came to this conclusion.
1) I will put Vis and Vis origins on hold and I will create a Kickstarter campaign. I think that what I have released until now could be a good demo for players to understand the world I would like to invest in. Every cent from Kickstarter will represent the budget for the game. My dream is to create e 3D RPG world, hopefully with character creation, where the player can free-roam, take side quests and have the main campaign. I know it's a big dream, but at least I won't try and deceive myself into thinking that I can create it using Renpy.
2) I will continue the game development. I was planning to start developing a game, a modern-themed one, after Vis, but given the decision I made, I will start the game dev now.
It's hard to bring this news to my current patrons and game fans, but I think that for the sake of Vis, my sanity and yours, I must reconsider my plans.
I will start creating the Kickstarter campaign, for Vis and after that, I will start revealing the characters for the new game.
So the game is too big in scale? And your answer is give me more money so I can make something even bigger?

I don't know what to say to that. For what its worth I enjoyed Vis and wish you good luck on your future endeavors

Hi,

I don't know if you saw the other post where I showed the statistic on Patreon with the game. One of the factors that influenced my decision was that before making the announcement, the Patreon pledges were reaching the same amount as the pledges from when I started the project. The forecast was clear that no matter what I did with the game, even if I increased the quality, including pumping more into animations, the game was destined to reach ~300$ or less per month. And the idea with Kickstarter was to hire a team so they could deliver the rest of the update or shoot to the starts and have enough budget to make a 3d game.
The drop in earnings was a wakeup call for me that the game wasn't as popular as before.

I get that it wasn't as popular as you (and I btw) would've liked. You also said that the scale of the project was too much. Now you wan't to scale up. Forgive but I'm worried that that might be the last thing you try as a dev. Downscaling and finishing one or two smaller projects might be a better way to attract customers but I admit I'm no expert.

Like I said, I hope it works out for you.

So, from what I have read on this page it's over for the game? It's a shame I really liked this. Best of luck to you Mad King staying healthy and sane is more important and even though ppl will be disappointed that it has stopped I am sure most would rather you be happy and not grinding through your day.
