The ENTIRE game is getting remade, of course you will have to restart. its essentially a brand new game.
I believe it was said they are not only remaking the game, they are adding a lot of new content to the beginning to flesh out your history with Miru and your journey and such. So it would be a good idea to restart regardless to get all that new content.
