In addition to the fact the old Katie was a bitch which had been a menace to the MC, while this one basically is the victim of the MC & Leia that hardly ever done anything wrong, while she does mention supposedly that she had done some wrong, considering most of the story of this new version revolved around the MC getting hammered from every directions for his supposed wrongs.
To me it seem like the Dev fell in love with Katie and decided to make her the effective main protagonist, so he stripped 99% of all wrongs she did from the original, and made all she did justified while utterly trashing the MC for daring to hurt his precious Katie. Frankly I'd say while overall I prefer the graphics of this version I preferred the story of the old version, it felt more sensible, instead of being hammered from the start about how bad the MC had been you instead slowly discovered it, which make sense considering the story is supposed to be from his point of view, so he came to term with the fact he had messed things up with Katie slowly overtime, unlike this version that just smash your face with it, it make it much harder to empathize with the MC, which is you know... the MC, and instead everything is centered around empathizing with Katie.
Also I don't like the changes in personality Leia went thru, I mean in the previous version it seemed obvious she was making a play for the MC, it was one of the driving force for having him back, which make sense, also you slowly discovered that she was involved in some shady stuff, this one... she is incredibly spiteful... considering the story still has her be the one to call on the MC it feels contradictory, if she is that spiteful why did she try to get the MC back, I mean sure she mention in this story she found it too hard, but it feels over the top considering her attachment / obsession with the MC, also its pretty much in your face from the start that she is shady, again it feel like this was done to completely absolve Katie of any blame and just further had blame on both the MC & Leia.
Ultimately the fact that the relationship the MC has is tense with so many love interests means its a massive hurdle to overcome before being able to engage in a relationship with them, which further slow down the story development on that matter, which further slow down the game development that already was delayed due to it being remade, its no joke really that at this pace this story isn't going to be finished before the end of this decade at least, since those updates comes up around once a year, and just making it back to where it was is likely going to take 3 more years.
I mean in the previous version you just got around to getting intimate with most possible girls once, not yet with the mom, you still had length to go frankly with all of them to make it serious, that was like 3 chapters further, so at this rate yea, no mom for 4 more years at least, and limited amount of relationship with the rest still yet for possibly as much as 5 years, with again doubt this is going to be finished before at least like 10 chapters total, so about 7 more years minimum to wait, or more likely getting abandoned. Because the Dev is taking way too long to get around to getting thru this and something is quite possibly going to happen sooner or later and force this to go unresolved like most games of the sort.
