Just finished Book One a few minutes ago. I have to say I absolutely loved it. That being said, I am not crazy about this whole making a whole game out of a side story of punishing one side character thing. But, based on the strength of Book One, I will most likely still play it once it is complete. I think the biggest problem I honestly have with this game's existence is that it is delaying the actual story (It just seems kind of random to me to make a whole game out of punishing this one character who, at least from all information we currently have, is fairly insignificant to the main game). Don't get me wrong, William is a piece of shit and he absolutely needs to be punished, but this is like if JK Rowling delayed the main Harry Potter series to write a novel about how Harry punishes the Dursleys. I'm sure it will be cathartic, but I would have personally rather just had the first game end as it did and have a few scenes in Book 2 of the results.
Thank you
BadSisterFucker and glad that you loved our first book!! Though, I am somewhat perplexed in your comment that you'll only take an interest once it is complete, rather than be invested in the ride to our destination, as many others are, as it bends, twists and weaves to its conclusion.
Disappointing and unfortunate.
Now, I am going to take some time here to reply to this, as it will help answer a lot for those, like yourself, who don't seem to understand why it is that I am doing the things the way that I've chosen to do them... I must warn you though, it shall be fairly lengthy and I am going to be brutally
HONEST, so, some of the things that I will likely say, could and might rub you the wrong way... but best that I answer truthfully than pile on a bunch of bullshit and waste everyone's time.
As others have stated (thank you
DA22 and
Wyrme) "Adventures of a Changed Boy" will involve far more and be more than just a punishment game for "William Crawford-Davies", as indicated, the story thus far has only focused on the Demonthans and Anglions, where as this next game is also going introduce the Third Faction of the upcoming war... the
HUMAN side, including yourself.
Right now, the Prologue to "Adventures of a Changed Boy" is being spent setting up a bunch of the main characters, their backstory and their motivations...
YOU (the player) have a hand in that, which you'll want, because when we do get to the Main Game of "Adventures of a Changed Boy",
YOU (the Player) will be interacting and counting on those characters to help
YOU make it through the Main Game.
See, in the Main Game of "Adventures of a Changed Boy",
YOU won't be playing as the Antichrist, nor will you be any character but
YOURSELF (
YOU, the person reading this)... a person selected by the Goddess Karma to try and set the world straight from the damages done by the Antichrist.
YOU will be playing
YOURSELF... a person who enjoys playing porn games all hours of the day... not some fictional character, but
YOU,
YOURSELF...
YOU will be given the tools to change the course of the story, to alter the decisions of other characters at
KEY POINTS in the story, for better or worse.
The fate of this world and it's many characters rests in
YOUR hands...
You see,
BadSisterFucker (and everyone else reading this) this isn't delaying the actual main story... because the
MAIN STORY (as well as, the main character) has
ALWAYS been intended to be
YOU... "Joe Blow (insert
YOUR REAL NAME here), the 'pirate', the 'patron', the player of porn games"... not "William Crawford-Davies", not "The Antichrist", but
YOU,
YOURSELF!!!
"Adventures of a Changed Boy" not only is going to show the punishment of "William Crawford-Davies", but it will introduce some of the most important characters and potential allies for the Antichrist and the most important character of all, in all of this, is
YOU (who will also get introduced into the story)!!
Now, as for your comments regarding JK Rowling... please understand, I have never read any of her work and I've only just recently started watching Harry Potter (as I had nothing whatsoever to watch while I've been on the mend and my wife finally convinced me into watching the damn series... I dare say, I find it to be rather boring and tame!), so... what I am about to say is based only on what I've seen of her work in the last week and not on any of her actual writing which I've not read.
Personally, I think the lady (it is a lady who wrote this right????)
SHOULD HAVE taken a break and wrote other things between her stories about Harry Potter, as it seems to me (having just started watching these mildly entertaining, but overall boring stories playing out on my television) that the writer got tired of writing about Harry (freaking) Potter!!
To me (from the stories I've been watching), I see a TON of examples where the writer was either tired of writing about Harry Potter, or just took easy ways out of buttoning things up, or just a mad rush to be done with it all.
Now, don't get me wrong, I can't really blame JK Rowling, as I am sure that they felt incredibly pressured by fans, the studios and public to keep the machine churning out a money making story... their biggest fault, not having the sense to say "I NEED A BREAK".
What people don't understand, as writers, we don't just live these character's lives or live in their world whenever we just sit down to write them, we live it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days out of a year till we've told that story. We think about those characters, the story, the situations that will experience as we shower, take a dump, make our breakfasts, over our first cup of coffee, throughout the day (even while at our normal jobs), at lunch, during dinner... working in our heads until it is time for our heads to hit the pillow... and then lie there, staring at the ceiling working the storylines over in our heads till sleep catches up to us.
So yeah, sometimes it is NICE for a writer, who writes sequels, to take a break from the story and write something different in-between to distract us from that particular world or making boneheaded mistakes that we later have to apologize to our fans for (like Hermione Granger falling for Ron and not Harry... just looked it up and seems the writer is a woman) mistakes they've made while telling the story, or for numerous continuity errors (which we try to keep to a minimum).
Believe me, fans have no trouble letting us know when we fuck up!!
Point is, JK Rowling's might have done a better job in the telling of her story had she taken some time (or breaks) away from it to tell something different.
Many authors do, including Stephen King, who would write short stories under a pseudonym to clear his head and free him from 'existing in a world for too long'.
Now, I am neither as great a storyteller or as wildly popular as either Stepen King or JK Rowling, but I can happily say that I have a pretty good fan base that is slowly growing and enjoying the works I produce... even for my lowly status, it would be a disservice to them to 'grind through' a story just to finish it.
A story that need telling, not only needs to be told... but the proper time and way of its telling needs to be considered as well.
I need to share my story, the world that I am building MY WAY; when I want, how I want and the way I want... and I fully intend to do just that even with the game.
So, if I think the story needs to take a slight detour, it's going to take a slight detour...
I am writing the story, not the fans. If fans don't like that... well, wish them the best, much happiness... but going to tell the story
MY way, they can either choose to stick around and enjoy the ride and scenery along the way, or they can find other stories that will interest them.
It is
NOT up to
THEM to tell me what to do with
MY story and the world
I hope to build.
