The next part is all about William’s FATE and "repairing the damage done to the ‘Tapestry of Time’." so in every way the main story cant continue because this game has to be a prequel if you are repairing things that have been done and the main story has not been done so it cant be about the main story, then if anything changes at all in the past the main story from the first game will not be the same so it cant continue from where it left off.The main story "Wicked Choices" has not been abandoned nor have the characters.
"Wicked Choices: Agents of Karma" expands on the background and introduces additional characters and factions to the 'series' "Wicked Choices". The majority of what happens in "WC:AoK" takes place during the same time period as "Wicked Choices: Book I". Even though some of the Book I characters may not physically appear in WC:AoK, they potentially will still be there... being mentioned in the story.
Following "WC:AoK", the story/game will return to where Book I left off.
As you said "WC:AoK" takes place during the same time period as "Wicked Choices: Book I" so not moving forward from the last game but happening at the same time.
The main characters of the first game are Antichrist and Lynara, this game is about "Emiko (or Emi for short) Fuwa, Claire Crawford-Davies or William Crawford-Davies" and having them show up as guest appearances seems like a desperate way to strengthen the connection of the two games as nothing else but the bare bones of the story/lore will be left to connect them.
