I understand that everyone and their brother LOVE having a phone (for some reason I just don't understand) in their game. But you REALLY need to clear the chat log before it's shown. Not only is no one gonna scroll up to read anything, but it actively slows down the game. All the "texts" that aren't on screen are still taking up space and rendering, you just can't see them. If you REALLY want the history aspect, having a screen that is ONLY for the conversation history is easily doable. But Every. Single. Time. That damn phone pops up the game's like "Lol bitch you thought you can read at your pace". I get it, phones exist and we want relatability to extend to the player. But not at the cost of performance. If you need help with this, I'll gladly help. But this really needs to be worked on.
This is the first I've heard of it causing a performance issue in the 3 1/2 years this game has been available to the public. There's an nvl_clear command I can use before each text conversation to clear the history before the phone pops up. If that'd help you, I could probably have that done by next patch. Heck, I could make it a toggle option in the options menu, even, now that I've learned how to do that. I had no idea all the message history renders that way 'cause no one I know has hardware that's affected by that at all lol.

So trying to save Ashley throws you into a time loop... Not doing perfect in Cecilia's trial throws you into a time loop... Would have been better if there wasn't one true path with looping jokes along the way as the joke gets stale as the cycles repeat :coffee:
The point of the Trials is to teach Aurum the lessons he needs to learn.

As far as the haunted house trial, there is no true path. There's a variable system that randomizes how many actions you have before the spider starts hunting again. Hide 'til she goes away, keep exploring. Eventually you'll figure out the solution.

Well, some times when using the Universal Mods it has me tap out and put it on the back burner until someone someone makes something more official to help me out. This game, it was the hide and seek game with the spider that did that. Sorry, was enjoying this game up until this point, but I am tapping out here. No matter what I try to do, it is not working, so I am done with this game.

To be clear, people probably don't notice it if they read at a normal pace. I read very fast and renpy has a hard time dealing with the backlog of messages. One big culprit is River's conversation, if that gets much longer, even slow readers will notice renpy chugging. This isn't a just your game thing, most games that have phone convos don't optimize this.

Wonder if I could introduce a difficulty adjuster that would increase the number of actions you get the more you get caught, so it would gradually become easier over time. I already have a variable that counts how many times you fail each trial, so I could tie the range of actions it randomizes to higher and higher ranges the more times she catches you so that you don't end up feeling stuck like this. Lemme stew on this and see what I can do.

Make it so. I prefer to scroll up and reread a bit to kickstart my memory after updates.

Wow, its so easy...look around if you want, but the goal is to go upstairs, hide if the spider shows up and wait until its gone, then just move forward and hide YOURSELF in the only place only one can hide...no need for cheats or mods, its so forward it could'nt be more easy.
However, i'm not a fan of minigames, so i could life without it, but at least you cant end with a game over, just with a loop.

Worst update so far. Otherwise it was nice, but those trials were annoying. First wasn't too bad, but the second... I spent far too much time on it, before I found way out. And the courtroom was just boring. Somehow I managed to get through that at first try without bothering to read texts and selecting options randomly.

But after that it was great. Beautiful visuals and interesting to read and wonder what's happening.
Previous update's cliffhanger scene (and the beginning of this update) was perhaps too fast. There was much potential for bigger drama.

Yeah having choices matter is better than a loop until the "correct" choice is made. Really though it's a hard sell not to save the cute girl even if she's an abusive bitch
A good pair of tits can be very effective "plot armor" but if you're keeping track of how many times the player failed you could just put in a fail safe which reminds the player what the point is and kicks the player along if the point is lost on them. This can even play well with those trying to be the devil's advocate!

I guess people missed the subtle hints that grow stronger each fail...

Unfortunately when a game starts getting loopy some players will get skippy as the fun is gone and they just try brute force instead. When given the option to save/damn a waifu then having the confused pikachu face when players actually want that choice to matter is funny. If they're a fan of hers then saving her is the only real choice along with defending her when others are shitting on her, those who hate her will leave the bitch to her cruel fate with throwing additional salt for the lols, and those who don't care are going to be like "bitch please, I made my choice lets move on already... wait, why the fuck am I back here again!? Ugh". I rarely see loops getting praise as they can be more frustrating than rewarding with oh that's your choice then nuh uh you didn't pick the right choice.

Ashley has never been a romance option and never will. She was chosen to be an antagonist and a main one, at that. The whole point of this chapter is helping Aurum to grow past his weaknesses that put him in danger. An alternative to defeating them.

If I click on the book I get the standard renpy error but the specifics are Lydia_met is not defdined
That sounds like an old bug from our last variable update ages ago. Are you loading an old save file? It happened when loading a save before those variables were put in. We've long since stabilized so no more resets are needed and any saves after that should be compatible.

That's what happened last time, I did a full replay with the newer build and went through until the last update with no issues. that was the save I used. I will try from a few saves back to see.

If you like, feel free to join the Discord server. Bit easier to run through bugs on there. Lemme know how it goes!

I liked the update, it was good for character stuff, and personally I thought the trials were good, I "lost" on the spider trial like 8-10 times and still enjoyed it (I clicked on every every possible option multiple times because I thought there would be a scene with the spider if I played my cards right:LOL:). The weird monster thing in the first trial was pretty creepy.
I really liked the reveal with Wither at the end of the update as well, I wonder how that will play out in the future.
