I liked the update, it was good for character stuff, and personally I thought the trials were good, I "lost" on the spider trial like 8-10 times and still enjoyed it (I clicked on every every possible option multiple times because I thought there would be a scene with the spider if I played my cards right:LOL:). The weird monster thing in the first trial was pretty creepy.
I really liked the reveal with Wither at the end of the update as well, I wonder how that will play out in the future.

But yeah, I set it up in the beginning with the phoenix telling Kageshini that Aurum needs to be able to fail the Trials until he gets it right, without interference from her. His selflessness is at a point where it's destructive to his own health. The Lie A Character Believes is central to a character's story arc and is a technique I use when writing the love interests, too. The character arc is the process of confronting that lie and what the character does when faced with it.

These things expose the flaws in Aurum's thinking and his emotional bad habits and force him to confront and deal with them, so I feel the Trials are essential to showcasing the feeling of working through and changing a bad habit. It's supposed to be uncomfortable. But I also wanted there to be a payoff.

That being said, a common request is for the second trial, the Trial of Selection, to not be so punishing. I'm gonna make some changes and push an update that takes that feeling down a bit. No one's supposed to be getting stuck there. It's not meant to be difficult, and it's definitely not meant to kill interest in the game out of frustration. So I'm gonna adjust the random range of actions you're given between hunting periods to allow more freedom and a less frustrating experience. I appreciate everyone's feedback.

Trying to beat the player with a morality stick is punishing and preachy :sneaky: Especially if it's not a moral lesson they want to learn.
While Aurum should learn this or that is quirky remember in a VN the player makes the choices they want to make for what they believe is the best experience for them :WeSmart:Actively fighting the player over this will lead to frustration. If you don't plan to support a choice then ask yourself why is it there? That leads to a disappointing groundhogs day.

KISS - Keep It Simple Stupid
The player shouldn't need a walkthrough to get by. Show a score, offer a reward if they get a high score, send them along their way if they don't care, or let them decide if they want to try again. It lets them control the loop and gives them a reason to win which isn't just breaking the cycle. Putting the moral lesson on loop is a detriment to the player experience which over complicated things. And if they're just here for the other girls well it doesn't waste their time.

If Ashley is to be hated well having her flirt with other men would probably scare off some who want to protect the bouncy pillows :HideThePain: NTR the antagonist which would poison the well. I've seen the wholesome crowd abandon a cheap whore but will defend an obnoxious childhood friend bitch. I'm sure some would like her in tight black leather and a whip just whipping the shit out of Aurum if he scored horribly :WutFace:Cecilia spider cuddles if he scores perfect :WaitWhat: Little things like that give the player an incentive to Min Max.

This is the first I've heard of it causing a performance issue in the 3 1/2 years this game has been available to the public. There's an nvl_clear command I can use before each text conversation to clear the history before the phone pops up. If that'd help you, I could probably have that done by next patch. Heck, I could make it a toggle option in the options menu, even, now that I've learned how to do that. I had no idea all the message history renders that way 'cause no one I know has hardware that's affected by that at all lol.

As far as the haunted house trial, there is no true path. There's a variable system that randomizes how many actions you have before the spider starts hunting again. Hide 'til she goes away, keep exploring. Eventually you'll figure out the solution.
I really did not enjoy the time loops. After the first or second loop for each scene some in-game hints to help you get through that part would have made it more palatable as I really struggled with the spider hunt having to do a 5-10 loops before I finally figured it out. It was extremely frustrating.

EDIT- I saw that you are planning on making some changes to that section. Glad to hear it, I really enjoy the side stories and I just want the main story to be reasonably linear so it's not a slog to get through. Hope my constructive feedback helps.

haven't played it yet, but on paper that seems like a pretty neat series of scenes.

OK, maybe I am missing something stupidly obvious, but how the hell do I start a new game from the beginning of Season 1?

It's version 1.4.0.1 downloaded via RDPL on torrent. Uploaded 3 days ago?
I dunno what RDPL is, and torrents aren't the official version. I just opened the official 1.4.0.1 PC version and it worked perfectly. Download it from the official Itch link in my signature and let us know if that still happens. Whoever posted the torrent must have messed something up. Could be that the torrent is out of date. I dunno. I don't make those.

You can also check the version number in-game by going to Options > Dev Team. If the torrent is up to date, it should look like this:

'Cause I did. Like proper, proper stupid. I may have had an older version of the game, S2V0.2.1.02 unzipped in my games directory, and I am not saying I did, but I may have been trying to open that one, as it appears below version 1.4.0.1 when listed in an explorer window, which normally to me means the latest version.

So obviously, I stupidly opened that one and not fecking 1.4.0.1

Panic is over, everyone can calm down, and we will never speak of this again, right? Right?

I may have had an older version of the game, S2V0.2.1.02 unzipped in my games directory, and I am not saying I did, but I may have been trying to open that one, as it appears below version 1.4.0.1 when listed in an explorer window, which normally to me means the latest version.

LMAO ey, you have no idea the amount of obviously stupid things I do and then have to bugtest out. Just glad ya get to play the game again. And that I didn't somehow screw something up and it made it past ALL my supporters. 'cause that's happened.
