While the military school reaction for walking in on the shower is a bit extreme from the "action/reaction" perspective, there are, sadly, stories all the time about neglect, abuse and killing of children by their mothers for any variety of reasons. Some are mental issues of the mother; some are drug/alcohol related (and could be mental issues); some allow their boyfriends to sexually abuse the kids - some do it themselves (also, potential mental issues); and some have stood by while an abusive partner beat on them as well as their child(ren) to the point of killing the child(ren). Yeah: there are many monsters out there that have given birth. Whether I'd call them "mothers" or not is questionable since that term connotes some degree of caring and love to most people (unless followed by "fuckers"). Not aware of anyone I know directly, but if you watch your local news over the course of one week, you will likely see at least one story on a mother of this nature.
She continues to do psychological harm to them since she has had contact rights. Thankfully, my daughter has also been a mother to them from birth.
