Why dont anyone just buy or take this project and continue the storyline. Make it better and develop with more passion?
Good idea?
Pls. make me know
Because ICStor is not selling... he'd rather give a story a shitty ending than leave a project "incomplete"

Find new Artists and continue? :D
At this point it's a struggle of keeping clear from ICStor's bllinded apostles and actually generating any interest in this dead project though... the best time for this would have been in the wait between 0.5 and 0.6

CAPTAIN'S LOG, DAY 2354525

A GRIM POST-MORTEM ANALYSIS

(Gimme that TL:DR mod, do it...DO IT! JUST DO IT!)

Well...Well...Well...

So it has finally come to pass, as foretold in the ancient Prophecies of Q Who, ICSTOR has once again bailed out on a project.

The crew are baffled, the whole Quadrant in hysterics as buildings are burned to the ground, Godzilla is reaching the generators and the mods are sweating as they prepare to try qwelling the inevitable shit storm, all asking...Why? OH WHY?!

...And... how?

How did the Top 3D Developer, the undisputed king at one time had you asked anyone,
fallen so spectacularly from grace?

With THAT much money, public support (at the time) and resources, it seemed like a sure thing, like a bank 'too big to fail!'

Well...We all know how THAT ended...

Let's go back a little...Because when you get down to the meat of the matter, the writing was on the wall from day 1.

ICSTOR has been around for a fair while now, to the point he was one of the first 'new wave' adult devs out there with his first couple games, MILF's Control, Incest story 1 & 2 and finally Milf's Villa, his last game before he ventured onto Milfy City.

Each one following similar pattern as the next, with each game, both technically and graphically at least, getting enhanced each time and thus slowly, amassing more Patrons.

However, each one also followed a very similar worrying pattern of development, ICSTOR would reach around over the V0.5 halfway point and progress would seemingly begin to grind to a halt. Notoriously, these projects all fell to the same fate where they were 'rushed' to give a patched out resolution to each one, Incest story 2 and Milf Villa possibly being the worst offender.

ICSTOR would then immediately start up a 'new' exciting project to switch people over to (near enough the same day as closing down the previous game), with a much higher quality than the last incarnation.

This distraction largely proved to work as the new games were always 'better.' And thus with a manageable patron count (and lower expectations at the time), people transitioned over with relative ease.

Then came Milfy City, his magnum opus that propelled him to the top billing.

However, this is where the problems really began. This sudden burst of extreme popularity led to something ICSTOR didn't particularly experience with the other projects, something his cycle of starting and restarting did not anticipate...

Expectations.

It's no doubt, that this game more than any of his others has received much closer scrutiny and expectations than any of his other previous works. The usual trick of just 'bailing' out earlier would not be met with such a brushed under the rug approach.
People were actually 'invested' now, and the financial earnings of the game only further heightened the demand to see 'something' for all this cash being earned.

As learned before though, cash flow does not always equal productivity, as very much shown in this case.

So, once ICSTOR reached the usual cycle peak point of burn-out, what was he to do?

Well...Nothing.

It's no doubt in my mind ICSTOR (doing the barest of bare minimum work at best) has probably been struggling with this 'dilemma' for months.

"Now I'm burned out, how do I now cancel THIS game with so much attention on it, and walk out unscathed?"

The answer is simple.
He can't.
And he knows he can't, so he's fucked.

ICSTOR's development past V0.5 of every game...

Then there's the lies...

It's pretty much a proven at this point ICSTOR's lied, or at the very least heavily distorted the truth.
How much work was really done? We'll never know, but from the 'unannounced' breaks to the inevitable death of this project now in a zombie like state as it limps it's way to the grave, it's clear he hopes to restart the cycle once again.

Let's compare ICSTOR to another Dev, Slonique, Slonique became notorious for rushing or abandoning games frequently, (and was loathed for it), while ICSTOR managed to come out literally king of the hill for a while, even though he displayed the same behavior.

Why?

Well, simply put ICSTOR, unlike Slonique who kept his production levels pretty much at the same level, always visually delivered something better looking.

Thus, even though the behavior was obvious beneath the surface,
the new coat paint of this development cycle blind-sided people into supporting him and over-looking these faults.

It's no doubt that ICSTOR's next game will be visually stunning, but,
I can't help think he won't be able to shake off the criticism surround this game quite so easily,
and perhaps that's for the best.

...

So, is there any lessons to learn from this trainwreck?

Perhaps for Patrons, the lesson is to observe and watch a Dev's pattern of behavior closely, it's very easy to 'fall in love' with a game and forget that the development behind it may not be so innocent and squeaky clean as you like.

To perhaps be weary, that a 'talented' dev does not mean that translates to a Developer determined to see a project through.

Sadly though, I do wonder if many honest devs are now going to have to deal harsher questioning and perhaps unfair scrutiny thanks to ICSTOR's behavior, who has helped contribute to a minority of Devs with less than professional etiquette or outright predatory behavior.

This is your Captain,
putting some flowers on the grave.

The game is as good as dead now.
Yes, he pulled a typical ICSTOR but public bashing just isn't on, people. We all know what happened and it's your right to feel disappointed or even angry at him. But in the interest further self-ego-stroking, just stop. Your ego demands this thread not be locked, which will happen if you persist in turning it into a cesspool.

This is very eye opening. Milfy City was the first game of Icstors that I was with from the beginning. I got into his stuff with incest story 1 and 2 and saw a great growth in the main character between the stories, though the games did not seem very fleshed out, the good bits where good enough to keep me interested. Now I know he has been doing this shitty hobbyist crap from the get go and I am a bit wiser for knowing. A tip for Icstor if you want to go above and beyond emulate NLT. This developer already knows the skeleton of the game before he gets it off the ground. Then as the weeks pass he adds flesh to the already solid skeleton. Clearly icstor starts with a skull and then starts adding smaller and smaller bones until we have a harlequin baby skeleton at the end.

Interesting, seems he’s going down the DPC route by releasing episodes. I wonder if that’s means his new game is a VN rather than a Point & Click game like this one. I’m quite intrigued to see what that might look like to be honest.
DPC is setting a gold standard right now with BaDIK; high quality storytelling, renders, and animations, updates released as episodes with lots of content (thousands of renders, hundreds of animations, free-roam events, mini-games, etc), characters with real heart and depth, and consistent release times (3 - 4 months).

If ICSTOR can emulate such a standard, even if it's just 4 or 5 episodes, then great. If not, well, maybe it's time to retire.

I just hope that those of you that made excuse and after excuse for the developer will now realize he played you. He was simply bored with the project but likes the money coming in so he lied and now realizes he needs to do something because the number of subscribers is declining enough to impact his money stream. No one should ever pay this developer another penny ever. He is nothing but a con artist.

Been reading over the last few pages of comments and I'd say that people are right to be annoyed with ICSTOR, I'm annoyed with ICSTOR. This game/VN, whatever you want to call it, does look great. ICSTOR is great at crafting gorgeous characters, renders and animations, but it's plain to see where their primary problem is: the story. Or, should I say, its lack of story.

The game lacks any connective tissue that links the events and characters with any kind of cohesion. The jumping off point for most of the characters is the embarassing incident of him being rejected by Celia, but then it just becomes a typical "fuck-em" quest game where the MC is now trying and succeeding to get into the pants of every woman in his life with relative ease in separate, disconnected stories with each of them. There seems to be no overarching narrative in the game at all which would obviously make it very difficult to discern what exactly you're doing and where you're going with this.

ICSTOR talks about "burn out", and whether that's true or just an excuse, I can see how someone would get burned out if they have no passion for what they're doing, and this can happen if you don't have an end goal in sight. If you don't know where your story is going and how it's going to end, then how can you possibly be excited and motivated to keep making a game that has no direction?

I'm sure ICSTOR has heard this all before, but craft the story first; know what you want it to look like at the beginning, middle and end, and then fill in the bits in between. Don't build the story towards the sex scenes, just build the story and then weave the sex scenes into the story where appropriate. Just look at what DPC does with BaDIK; the story has a nice, cohesive flow and the sex scenes work organically within it. We don't have a male MC doing various tasks over and over to gain a girl's favour with the end of goal of having sex with her, we have a character who is just living their life doing regular things and then opportunities for sex and various sexual interactions happen at specific points.

This is a winning formula and if ICSTOR can do this with their quality of renders and animations, they could produce really great games. But if they continue to suffer from "burn out", and have lost their passion for this work, then retire because we want devs who actually want to do this kind of work, not ones who think they have to do it.

This and Dreams of Desire were the first games I followed on this site. Atleast Linda and Sara are getting an ending. Wonder if 1.0 will be harem ending. Also kinda hoping those are repeatable scenes instead of getting credits and then back to the main menu since you know, its a sandbox.

PS: Wonder if BaDIK will take 1st place in the trending page now. I mean, it has more pages, more votes and more replies than this so I'm surprised it ain't #1 yet. It has less views though, but thats 3/4.
