"I will continue soon"
So he simply just LIED in his last patreon post on MARCH where he said development was "ramping up again!"
Yeah.... funny that eh? I don't understand how he can't grasp how damaging this is? Like he's lost half his subs since the start of the year.

The game is on Steam, and it usually comes up in sales every other month...games that are on Steam usually always out-do whatever most smaller dev's make on Patreon.

Oh I know, I bought it, even whilst supporting him on patreon as I felt the game warranted it. It's one of the reasons I feel particuarly salty about the whole thing.

I wasn't sure how successful a game would be on steam if the dev has a rep for dropping it but I guess unless you went looking you wouldn't notice huh? You'd just see early access and accept it?

"I will continue soon", so basically even now he still has no fkin idea on where to go with the game and that's why things are on hold. When he finally gets an idea for the next update, he will start working on it but nobody even dev himself as of now has any idea on when this "soon" will happen.
Mundo's definition of soon is different than that of a normal human.
I expect "soon" in this case, means sometime in his next life. ;)

I find it perplexing why developers continue to make these choices repeatedly.
It would be more beneficial to conclude the game with a coherent ending rather than alienating the entire community and especially its supporters. Furthermore, even small updates can demonstrate a commitment to the project.

I think it's more an issue of sunk cost, avoidant mentality, and either hopefulness or self delusion, depending on how charitable you want to be.

I suspect the dev of this game (and other games in similar states) had high hopes for it initially. Clearly he put a ton of work into it. At some point, his hopes and/or enthusiasm for the game dimmed, or real life got in the way, or *something*.

In any case, he can't bring himself to work on it, but he also can't bring himself to totally give up on it.

So now it's a zombie game, where it's being "worked on", but the dev can't find the time, motivation or energy to actually put in the hours he needs to in order to meet expectations (including his own expectations).

Honestly, I'm pretty sympathetic to all of this. None of it excuses the long, unannounced absences with the Patreon still taking money, or the dev's other behavior. I can understand how a dev might fall into this rut, and it sucks, but at this point I've given up on it.

I'd be *more hopeful* if the dev could be honest enough to himself to put the game properly on hold, since then he might be able to recharge or get things otherwise sorted, and come back to it with the energy he needs. But right now, it's an albatross around his neck.

I expect at some point it will get too much to bear, and the dev will disappear from the internet. Either that, or he'll gather enough awareness about what's going on to push out one final burst of effort, and we'll get a final update or two that fastforward to the conclusion.

You're being all reasonable. That probably won't end well.

But I respect it.

Spot on! I don't think a lot of guys on here realise how much work goes into making a game like this. At some stage, the dev is actually bound to "burn out" and adjust his pace. And I think that is where a lot of devs abandons the game. players are getting negative, money is not as good as anticipated. Few holidays got in the way. Wife is complaining. and all together.....leads to abandoned game.

A lot of time, it's not even that the dev don't want to finish it, but the effort to get going again can get overwhelming.
