The eyes m8... the eyes.
They're such an important feature of the face, it's what draws attention.

It doesn't help that in the source material the eyes are just big, circular or oval shaped.
But it's kinda what makes those characters be those characters.

In those two samples, that's kind of the main gripe I have about them.
The bodies have to change anyway since the source wasn't really intended to be "sexy".

But the eyes... I see those pics and I don't think "Oh, hey, that's Maddie/Paulina" I just think of some random chick cosplaying as them.

I mean...

I think the main issue is that the new style feels less cartoonish and more anime-ish...
Which seems conflicting, and even counterproductive in this particular situation.

Art isn't bad, it just doesn't feel like it fits here.
This right here is a perfectly done piece of constructive criticism, it hits the exact idea of what we're asking about. Big thanks to you, sir. Our new artist, who is responsible for the style change, has asked me to provide good and helpful feedback and how he might improve things. This is exactly the sort of response and example that gets passed along.

My friend, I get the issues you've raised, as many have raised them before. About the choice to change/redo the art at all: that's done, it's what we're doing, it's our decision to do so. The style change? Yes, completely get that it's different, not what it was before, but in my opinion, not to the point of unrecognizability. But again! We're here to possibly accomodate, or at least listen to the exact thoughts people have on the art.

But my question again was: What SPECIFICALLY do you, as a player, not like about it? We need actual concrete examples of what it is that people dont like about it, if they want the point at least raised. That provides us the means to go "Okay, people seem to not like xyz about this art, let's see if we can go about modifying xyz." Explaining to us how the enjoyment of parody works best does not help the art department. I've appreciated people providing photos to show what they like about the style and look of DP porn, but I'm looking for exact comments/suggestions that help make what we've done look more like what the fans enjoyed about the show we're basing this game off of as well as the game's original art.

To make this as simple as possible, as an example: If you didn't like that we gave, say, Jack Fenton a purple suit in the redux (we didn't), instead of his classic orange, you'd provide something like "I think Jack's design would look better if his suit was orange again, like it was before."

Concrete examples, that's what we're after here. (y)
It's the eyes. The old style had more rounded cartoony eyes, The eyes in the new style are more accurate to real human eyes, but the faces start getting into some weird uncanny valley where the character isn't in a cartoon style, isn't realistic and isn't in an anime style. I guess you could describe them as overly cute, like some dolls.

Another cracker. Passed along as well.

Other then the skin tone on Paulina this looks pretty damn good as far as fixing whats off about it. The Maddie one though is apparently not just the eyes and face, the hair seems to matter as well, cause she still looks weird to me. So Im gonna say overall what makes them not look like them is the head in general, nose, eyes, hair, all of it. I get asking for specifics so you can relay info to the artist about what to improve, but its difficult to explain when your not an artist yourself. I thought it was just the eyes and said so a few posts back, but then Cursedflame posts a pic that addresses my issues and that doesnt look right either. (Closer then the original though) The best way I can describe the issue is by using off brand knockoffs you see in stores, its not a tranformer its a transmorpher, and you might not be able to tell why its not a transformer, you just know its not a transformer. So im revising my earlier comment that it was just the eyes, its the whole head on the newer drawings.

i have been suporting the game since the beguining, i understood the time development for updates, too long between them but i get it, this things take time and it is what it is , but changing one of the core points which is the art is something that people may not like , as is my case. i can guess that the necesity for changing the art may be the main artist leaving or not having enough time to continue the proyect, still, changing the art is not a great move, the game could have a very similar art from a different artist but that is not going to happend, i dont know about other patrons but for me i am done with this proyect, like i said, i did not like the time between updates but i could understand. if they are going to change the core things that made this game enjoyable they could as well drop it and leave it. at least that would be more honest. i thinks the issues started with the breeding farm proyect, not my cup of tea but others seems to enjoy it so i guess is ok , but obviously that affected this proyect in the worst way. A shame really, i liked the game . As for why i complain here instead in patron, being honest i dont want to hurt in any way the opinion of current patrons, this is my point of view and i strongly think in "vote with your wallet" . if people still enyoy let them keep paying, but for those who does not then leave.

I disagree with this whole heartedly, our progression and growth working on two games has not worsened either game, only improved it. It's just as you said, these changes and even ther other game just aren't everybody's cup of tea.

It's the anime-ish faces. They completely change the look of the characters from who they are. The bodies were changed a little from the beginning, you guys added a bit more meat to them, especially Sam, she was pretty much a stick figure in the series. I don't expect carbon copies but messing with the faces does far more to alter their looks than taking a little leeway with their bodies.

It's pretty simple.
Cartoon characters have to stay cartoonish sure you can give them bigger boobs, booty, longer legs or provocative clothes if your goal is to make them sexier but why change what makes the characters distinctive, the damn face namely, especially if the point of the game is to be a parody of Danny Phantom.

Was completely unnecessary to hire someone who can't duplicate the art of the show, not even close.

Imagine DarkCookie wouldn't draw Summertime Saga anymore but instead someone replaced his drawings with something that looks off.

Here is a portfolio of different artists who made Maddie sexier (but she still looks like the mother of the protagonist) that's how the redux should be.

Not sure if I follow your point cause all the characters still look pretty distinctly themself to me in all the art you qualified as 'bad'. Like I still easily recognise Maddie and Paulina so far.

While PePe was a bit... blunt, in some respects, I personally also preferred it when the characters' art (specifically their faces in particular) more closely resembled that of the original show. The eyes especially are a big factor in this. While characters like Maddie and Paulina (and probably most if not all of them) will probably remain easy to distinguish regardless of the art style, the change can be quite jarring for players who are accustomed and/or prefer it when the characters' design look like they're taken almost right out of the show (while still allowing for certain exceptions, such as Sam's body actually having curves and whatnot).

I mean, the design being closer to the original or not isn't the same thing as the character not being recognisable, those are two different points.

Sure the new art is farther away from the original show but I still recognise the characters without problems, they are still visibly themself, just in a different style so while I understand the whole 'We'd rather it be close to the original', I don't really understand saying you can't tell it's the character.

Nor do I ever recall implying that a change in art style would render the characters unrecognizable, and I don't know of anyone making such complaints either. In fact I clearly stated the opposite and they're all quite distinguishable regardless of the general design so long as the character's base physical traits remain, which they clearly do. I was merely commenting on how such a drastic change in art style can be jarring since the game's art has so closely resembled the original show's up until the new redux update, so it is perfectly understandable for people to say they don't like the change in character art and design. If some people actually prefer they new art style, that's fine too. But people shouldn't just dismiss the opinions of those who like the old style more, and they shouldn't put words in someone else's mouth either.

It may not have been you, but it has been stated many times in the thread. "They are unrecognizable!" "I don't recognize that person!" "Those are not the same characters!" "I don't know who those people are!" Etc...

Saying that he doesn't understand the problem is not the same as dismissing someone's opinion.

Some of us just don't see it as being that 'drastic'.

As for StS, it may not have been a new artist, but D.C. DID completely change the style of the characters, and not all of them were for the better. My favorite one being one such character who was so different, that she went from being my favorite character to one of my least favorites, and I didn't play the game for over a year because of it. Now, it is mostly that I just want to see the end of the story for myself.

So, it is not that I don't understand not liking certain changes in style, it is just I never really thought the originals, while really good, were super sexy. For the non sex scenes the sprites will stay the same, there won't be any changes there. It's just the sex scenes will be a little sexier.

I sympathize, I really do, and I am all in favor of people noting changes they think might improve the design, that's great, it is not as if I think that was perfection, but I do like the general direction myself. I just think that we should not get too worked up over one image, wait, give it a chance and see how it turns out.

Has the public version of the Redux been released yet? I'm pretty sure it has been a week since the patreon release
No. The Redux update was made available to Gzone's VIP patrons on the 5th of July, and they get to play the update 2 weeks before it's released to the public. So logically, it'll go public on the 19th this month, assuming it isn't leaked beforehand.
