The shilling for Kaliyo is strong in this thread.

By the way, Roundscape is still being worked on actively, even though Kaliyo stated Arenus would be his sole focus over a year ago. He's been polling for more RS events and scenes, and has posted RS scene previews as recently as 5 days ago.

Hell, he's pushed Below Sunshade updates, even though that game started development after Arenus (in fact, it was started after Arenus' original "expected release date" of June 2019), and is now considered "complete" with a small patch back in March. Even better, Below Sunshade was announced and released as a 1.0 before Arenus even got a demo.

We do not trust Kaliyo to deliver on any promises revolving around Arenus. With good reason.
the pointless whining seems stronger....

Patreon posts and polls about RS doesn't mean his focus isn't 100% on Arenus, again, there are two teams, one is art other is dev, dev team is on arenus, art team on RS
I wish I could have more confidence in them. I really do. History, however, is giving me a lot of bad vibes, man.

Cut them some slack man, they're doing plenty. It is very hard to have the same level of energy and enthusiasm for a project, every dev is subject to the fatigue and a whole lot more so if it's your own venture because you have the headache of managing as well as developing and they do spill onto each other.

I'm not saying the community's anger is unjust, but that they should look at a guy creating games along with his team for the last 5 yrs at-least and he has nothing but credibility on his side as all his games are certainly better than your average porn game with a reasonable time between updates. If he truly wanted to run with the money, he'd have long abandoned the project and never worked countless nights for development. Nobody would work 100s of hrs and ruin their sleep if their plan was to run away, that's agreeable no ?

I do agree that the shifting of release without proper announcement is a bit irresponsible on his end. And the community blowing up over it is cause of the friction between him and us, we don't get regular updates, and when we do it is some big change almost out of the blue. It would be a lot better if we could get weekly updates even if they are just "Fixed a bug with the elevator and 2 doors", like how star citizen does it, true they are a much larger company but small updates are imo, better than a single boom.

The problem really is that the proof of this not being a scam lies on their shoulders. They've shown thus far that in the best case, they are absolutely horrible at managing projects, given how they wanted to add to the demo + the original 2020 release date which has been pushed back over and over. In worst case they just keep making up excuses on why the game can't be delivered or is delayed so the monthly patreon money keeps flowing.

At some point you just have to ask yourself if the Dev is telling the truth or if the game is stuck in development hell and you're better off paying other content creators that actually deliver a product.

I really really liked what i've played of the demo, and if it got fine tuned more and obviously was properly done it can be such a good game. But after the delays on delays I don't really have much faith in them anymore.

It was mentioned that they have a coding and art team, and coding team is working atm on Arenus, and honestly i'm wondering if it's not them that is the weak link. Bugfixing and such can't take THIS long, and also, despite Roundscape being a 'finished' product, it's still pretty buggy, not to mention the Gallery as well, so i'm asking myself if he simply needs to hire more / better people that can actually do their job competently.

So, I haven't bothered to read this entire forum but the last post that was on the patreon was on June 28th and it was about some community Poll for Roundscape. But if we speak only of Arenus the last post was May 25th with barely any info on updates other than they've been on crunch
Quote: "Kaliyo here. The team's been working very hard on finishing Arenus. I've been in Crunch for the last two months roughly (Please don't cancel us, only I do crunch lol), and things are looking good." which I'm honestly not sure how to feel about it but there might be some hope still left?

Game is definitely still being worked on. The abandoned tag is only here to spite the developer; there is next to no trustworthy communication about the status of the game but there have not been any announcements to abandon the project. The game will be released, though it could take another year or more for all we know.

Spite? The game crossed the line into abandoned territory a long time ago, precisely because of the lack of communication and no game release yet. We don't read minds here. We only see endless delays and a dev who is just saying "Soon". That means all of Jack and Shit, and Jack left the building already.

Yes. You say it yourself, the tag is on because of poor development practices, not because the game has been explicitly abandoned. Maybe "abandoned" has a different meaning on this site, but I interpret games with this tag as having no hope of further development. Like, the developer died or is otherwise unable to continue development, or explicitly refuses to continue development.

If someone were to discover the game now, they would probably see the abandoned tag and assume the current demo is all there is and ever will be. Then, when the game is released, they'll never know because they saw the abandoned tag and promptly forgot it existed. It's not fair to people who aren't "in the know" or didn't bother to look into the political history of this game's development.

If you really want to communicate that state of development is iffy without steering people away, I think the "On Hold" tag would be more appropriate. Since it acknowledges that the game may be released, but who knows when, and that it will probably be a while.

What do you call people who promise to do something for years but do nothing? This is a rhetorical question, you can not answer. However, when his patrons want to stop supporting him. He appears about once every 3-4 months a year and again promises the same thing as it was 5 years ago: 1660899716359.png
P.S: I've always wondered how games are developed differently in the West and in Asia. In the west, people are always promising something and can promise for years that they are developing a dream game and everything will be great. Basically of course they add quite a bit of new content every month in versions 0.01. 0.02. 0.03. and have been working on a simple game for years.
Meanwhile, in Asia, people work 2-3 jobs and devote all their free time to completely developing their game. They promise almost nothing and silently develop games. The interesting thing is that it doesn't take that long and when the game is finished they release it in the store.

because in asia (especially in japan) not doing things in the time they established is a mistake and there mistakes are VERY WRONGLY SEEN.

Yeah this is basically how I found it I last saw it was still being worked on and when I found it again it has this tag so I didn't know if it was actually just dropped or not til I looked into it after reading some conflicting posts on the forum

On hold is a tag that gets requested by developers.

Abandoned is the tag it gets when there is no communication about that game after 3 months.

Unless the developers request it to be tagged on hold then abandoned is what it gets.

Fair enough, didn't know the On Hold tag could only be added by developers.

Is the 3 months thing an official rule? I assumed there were rules for the tags posted somewhere and tried looking, but couldn't find such a page/post.

Even so, using deductive reasoning it looks less like the developers abandoned the game and more like they're trying to pull a No Man's Sky. Where they go radio silent until the game is finished under the impression that communication can only hurt PR and team morale. Is it a good way to handle this kind of situation? Probably not, but it's also naive to think they would genuinely abandon the game after all this time.

18 months without an update === abandoned tag. I warned Sam that they need to mention this rule in the rules thread, he said that they will make adjustments in the rules and then will let this clearer.

18 months is an irrationally absurd amount of time for an update, so it's a totally consistent rule.

Kal is active just about every week ish, last time he responded to Arenus related stuff was on discord about 2-3 weeks ago when I and a few others pulled up similar questions/concerns regarding what's causing the added delays to which he responded to there being a bit of feature creep/perfectionism, a feeling of something missing and bugs caused by adding additional content along the way in the delays it seems.

The duo gender protagonist content mixed with content for both genders for each of the 3 gladiators sent them into development hell over how to fix that problem content and balancing wise caused by the gladiator route structure or something to that effect.
He mentioned there being few if any case studies to learn from in the current porn game market regarding their specific problems.
In short they seem to have suffered a bit from ambitious goals, huge scope causing delays from various things, having several projects active simultaneously and the riperino of delays and false promises to appease patrons.

The constant waiting and lack of info on when it might potentially be out sucks a bit but I doubt it's a scam or in the same situation as games like Cloud Meadow, the late may trailer looked hype at least.
I hope they release it by the end of this month or early sept, might be on copium but hopefully it releases soon as I don't think they can afford an additional delay outside of their current 2022 Q4 steam release
The discord riots shall continue til then ;)
