What do you call people who promise to do something for years but do nothing? This is a rhetorical question, you can not answer. However, when his patrons want to stop supporting him. He appears about once every 3-4 months a year and again promises the same thing as it was 5 years ago: View attachment 1992468
P.S: I've always wondered how games are developed differently in the West and in Asia. In the west, people are always promising something and can promise for years that they are developing a dream game and everything will be great. Basically of course they add quite a bit of new content every month in versions 0.01. 0.02. 0.03. and have been working on a simple game for years.
Meanwhile, in Asia, people work 2-3 jobs and devote all their free time to completely developing their game. They promise almost nothing and silently develop games. The interesting thing is that it doesn't take that long and when the game is finished they release it in the store.
This happens with Asian devs too you just don't notice as much because of the language barrier.

Even when I create something I find it hard not to be ambitious. Far reaching aspects that I cannot work on at the moment. I think at the start that I have reigned myself in and will not over reach on a project but holy shit down the line I do too much. Even simple things as in a comment section I write like a chapter worth words, only to realize I should not do this.

Pretty sure every dev suffers from dreaming and working on their precious project too much but we also need a man with a whip or a gun to our heads so we can beware of going on too much. Though in projects like this and the money that comes in they should hire a project/dev manager who when these ambiotous thoughts come out reigns them in. The creative people might hate this and say we can manage it ourselves but I have seen too many devs doing too much and not delivering in time.

They could even now cut some content and just re-realease it later and it would be just fine but they have worked and promised too much to go back on their promieses and now added more content on to it which brings bugs and more dev time.

I've followed this game for quite a while. Was really excited, but without lack of updates (not even concept art) or an indication as to what the fuck is going on I'm under the impression that ArvusGames (Kaliyo) is just milking the patrons for as much as they can.

Soon, doesn't mean anything. That's gonna be relative to the person. It could be a few hours from now or it could be 5 years from now. It's pretty obvious at this point, that they don't actually care about this project. If they did, we'd see constant updates. Delays are fine, keeping the community in the dark that is sustaining you is just shitty. Keep in mind this game was in works since 2018, it's 2022 now and the last update we received was in May. That's just shitty practice. They claim they are ironing out bugs, working on new aspects of the game ( trying to make it not boring) reworking entire features, but that doesn't excuse the wait.

Really wondering what the fuck these devs have been doing for 5+ years when games of better quality have been cranked out faster. Clearly milking the patrons dry, only when the Patreon started to lose money at one point in 2020 did they actually give some information about the progress of the game.

So, yeah. The abandoned tag is perfectly accurate. 1,262 patrons and $11,662 per month and we don't get updates. Fuck that. I'll spend my wage on something else that's worth it.

you are right the problem is that as long as their patrons do not start to drop they will continue like this, and that can last a long time

Well they have been doing stuff, just not entirely on Arenus :d. Symptom of having several game projects active with only 1 patreon. As far as the milking of their patreon, aside from the constant release date jebait milking donations they have done stuff though the past 11 monthes they've done nothing on either of their games aside from that short sunshade game as a result of their statement to "focus entirely on Arenus" so Idk.

My personal guess and hope is that it releases this month or 1 week into october as they mentioned releasing on patron weeks before steam. As long as he doesn't move the steam release date again which isn't a given obviously(3 times in 6 monthes, though most of them are "semi-reasonable" if based on their may post)
A 4th time though is just ridiculous doh and yes I know they've delayed even more then that but yeah.

They'll probably do some lackluster update that tells us nothing but "soon" with a few screenshots and a trailer as soon as Kaliyo starts to lose a substantial amount of Patreon money. That's exactly what they did last time. Their patreon has been steadily losing patrons and earnings.

Idk bout their update, but they've been gaining 1-3 ish subs every day and have increased in support though I've no clue what they used to make when roundscape had active updates.

According to Graphtreon, their 5-year high was 1928 patrons in 2018, which makes sense as they were putting out mostly roundscape content at that time and teasing Arenus as their next big project. In the years since they've steadily declined, some months they lose patrons and some months they gain patrons, but they've generally lost more than they've gained. They went from an income of 17k per month with 1928 patrons in 2018 to about 11k and almost 1200 patrons in august 2022. They are back up to 1300 patrons currently but that's about normal for the rise and fall over time.

They did gain a bunch of patrons going into 2021, but after december of 2021 they started losing patrons even quicker than they had been. (Possibly due to missing all the 2021 release dates for Arenus? Pure speculation on my part.)

They stopped producing updates for roundscape since december 2021 with their only recent update of anything being sunshade release in march so that makes sense

Possibly. It's pretty spot on speculation. Arenus is probably one of their most exciting projects. The other ones not, so much. They don't feel as "professional" as Arenus did with the showcase and even with the demo release.

It's a scummy business practice to keep your community in the dark and only offer updates and progress reports when you are losing revenue.

Not much you can do other than warning unsuspecting people that it's a cash-grab. Funnily enough it reminds me of Pure-Onyx. That game by Eromancer who in the span of 2 years has hardly releases any changes regarding the game.

If Kaliyo wants to take this road, they will just cement a horrible image for ArvusGames in the future if they decide to start another project.

It's really a shame, because a lot of these games have so much potential. The thing about these games is that hardly ever get finished and that's the saddest part of it all.
