I don't really care because he's gonna lose to piracy anyway. The fact is, the game is pretty good and he's already earning some good money so I hope to have more games from him in the future due to BB's success.
He is axing the drm?? That was unexpected. If we were to exclude data mining and pirate fishing (mentioned before), my best guess on the reasoning behind his thought process would be: "If people liked ikaruga's mod better than the "vanilla" game (which is hilarious on itself and already happening) those people might give up on paying at all (the thereat of restoring the drm), so let's sweeten the deal with offline play and achievements, or something like that."

1. When he was making his previous game (pre-Patreon), people practically begged him to donate and he refused until he could complete his game so people would judge it as a whole. That's quite far from a greedy attitude.
2. It would be a sensible monetary approach for any creator, Patreon or not, to flick the DRM switch back on for a project if he lost -say- half his projected income. Should you or me like it? Definitely not, but it's still a sensible approach.
3. How dare he possibly not complete the game for us freeloaders no matter what, even with a sharp money decline. Horrendous possibility, shame on him. (<--- This is sarcasm).
Alas, with the heat DS gathered lately (some justified, some really not) every minuscule decision is bound to rub someone in the wrong way. Acting like entitled brats surely won't magically fix things.

Related: you can also use these cards for Patreon payments AFAIK, so that if somehow you do get caught sharing DRM content etc. and banned, you could just make a new account with a new virtual CC in no time flat and continue on with your bootleggin'
That aside, I'm glad to see he's ditching strict DRM, and I hope that he doesn't see any significant patron decrease from it (ironic since I've already stated that I'm reducing my contribution but meh :noexpression
.IMO any dev that releases quality work should be rewarded for making things easier for the majority of their users, and after seeing all the posts on his Patreon about login issues it looks like DS is realizing that his DRM was punishing the ordinary users and not the pirates.
All in all I just want him to keep developing at the same quality standard that he has, and if he's making money hand over fist then good for him, that's no reason that anybody should be discouraged from contributing to his Patreon :biggrin:

Thanks anyway. The really difficult aspect is fixing the "being poor as fuck" part, but i'm thinking of a good plan to solve that. Maybe install some hidden cams on my house and make a website, buy some advertising packages, and start hitting on the women living her... oh, i live alone with my cat. Scratch that. XD

About the whole surprise/DRM thing, you guys will still scrub the file to check, right? I'm more worried about some kind of measure allowing him to pinpoint the backer sharing the file than about any kind of malicious code, to be honest.

In the worst situation (too much 40$ pledge lowering) he will continue to do at least more than 15k, but if this will happen will be because he had a incredible start in little time and it's physiological a little adjustemant, but I don't think he will lose patrons.
To be honest I don't want Eric to go. He makes the game a lot more interesting.
If I feel like it, I can go along with him, betray my family and have some peeking fun.
I can also make the choice the go head on with Eric, get the family for myself and cock-block Eric.
And then there are even more choices in between.
I personally feel Eric is a big part of why this game is so good.
