The only reason for Tifa´s redesign was current year politics, first heavily implied by a team member, later outright confirmed by a SE rep who also added the juicy tidbit that they have a special ethics department who review all content in order to keep it appropriate(something that in itself wasnt too surprising given SE´s size, considering the context though its fucking ridiculous and shows SE puts more weight on a bunch of screeching twitter cunts than their own fanbase).
Shit got really questionable/laughable a short bit later when the Dissida NT team released their version of Tifa which, surprise surprise, was actually rather close to the original(reduced bust size not withstanding but we all expected that after AC and original Dissidia).
Personally I love her redesign, much more in line with her martial artist background. Any sane woman would fight with a sportbra and spats, specially with a fighting style as mobile as hers. Sorry if you are dissapointed that she won't flash us with every single move she does, personally I'm more excited about playing with the old gang (even if aparently we still won't be able to play with Red XIII yet T_T) and visiting Midgar again, in a much more glorious scale, than to be bothered about Tifa not being dressed in her old setup. It is close enough that I still love her design. Still worse than her post Advent Children design, but that one is just too good (I'm talking about pure aesthetics here).
The whole point of her outfit was that it was unassuming though.
She wasnt supposed to look like a martial artist, she was supposed to look like a barkeeper.
In fact,if you went into FF7 completely blind her being a capable fighter came as a complete surprise.
Whats more, the whole practical design approach falls apart the moment you notice she also wears thigh highs anyway.
If they only had her change into the costume once going for 8 that would be one thing but we all know that aint the case.
From a purely visual aspect her new design is also rather overloaded in comparision to the simplicity of her old one but thats whatever and a matter of taste.
Though as alluded to above, the redesign itself isnt my biggest problem with it,its the reasoning.
As for the remake itself...eh...the demo gave me enough reasons to hamper my expectations.
Clouds portrayal especially gave me a rather dubious outlook on the whole thing and made me anticipate a rather...lets call it deviating...ride from the original.
We will see I suppose.
