How prominent is the mind control in this? I can't get a sense of it from the description, and since it's the only thing I'm here for, I don't want to get invested until I know.

Yes. Too animated, if you ask me, but that's just because I prefer still images in general. There are animations, like, everywhere, including some random street scenes. (One weird thing is that most male characters in crowd scenes are shown as silhouettes, but they're clearly using female walking animations.)
Will it still be an option for the characters where it isn't required?
Did no one notice the mc's tiny hands? This scares me, it looks like he has the hands of a 5 year old child on a adult body.
