A couple developers have tried to go down that route, with mixed results. When Patreon first really started cracking down on things, for a while some developers took this tactic, and would post patches that could be found on places like rapidgator, or mega. However, Patreon caught on to this tactic after it was exposed. Now, no one really knows how that exposure happened, but it's generally believed that Patreon discovered in the code of one game that if a rather simple patch were applied, it would unlock content which violated the TOS. From that point forward they started really policing the content TOS rules.
Now, to note, they're not doing this because they're prudish, or anything of the sort. The fact is, that under US law (Patreon being based out of San Francisco), quite a few things that they list as being against the TOS when it comes to 'adult themed' games... are illegal. Very illegal. Even animated depictions of it have been shown in the past to result in added scrutiny if not active investigations and arrests. So... Patreon, in order to keep that from happening, has to make it very clear that any such depictions are against their terms of service, and if it is discovered that such is taking place, then depending on the severeity of it, they will be forced to remove the patreon page, and effectively end any development that's going on.
A couple games have had to move off of Patreon because of this, while others had to do serious rebuilds. One that comes to mind is F.I.L.F, which back in 2019 had their Patreon page suspended for some time due to the incest content in the game, prompting a rebuild of the game that eliminated that aspect of the game to get Patreon to reinstate the game.
To put it simply, because of the fact that Patreon heavily policies what is allowed on their site, it's prompted developers like the one for Crimson High to have to change once loved 'loli' or "smol" characters that are love/sex interests, in such a way that they don't run afoul of the TOS.
