D only should have ended at Chapter 2 and the rest of the updates focused on fun D.

That means that you watched the patrons' support for Dee's corruption, as contemporaneously documented in this thread, evaporate in the first 4-6 months of its initial release. Long before the beginning of Chapter 2. Them's that pay call the play.

You misunderstood, I was talking about the people who were attacking Rusty. And they never seem to use the ignore option, just personal attacks and slurs. I can understand someone who has trouble putting together a coherent argument, some people don't grasp logic. But if you are so insecure that you can't hear a simple, honest criticism of your favorite game, that's unhinged territory.

You nailed it.
It seems people already forgot that DMD at the beginning was completely free for first 5 updates.
After that it was for "patrons only".
Probably around that time started the change.

I don't agree, the story is the central part of a game. And probably the most important part. And in a situation like this where the dev dramatically changed the direction of the story, just to pander for more Patreon bucks, it's going to draw very well deserved criticism.
