Trope appears to be a storytelling shorthand for a concept that the audience will recognize and understand immediately. Since nobody seems to understand this issue unless imexplain it, it can’t be a trope. Not sure if people understand it even when I explain it.The Father became a babe-magnet AFTER he became an MC. Before that he was a loser.
This is a terrible trope. Probably the worst. Fortunately for devs, most players like it...

I also factor in the idea that good storytelling begins in media res.Trope appears to be a storytelling shorthand for a concept that the audience will recognize and understand immediately. Not sure there is an example of “loser becomes winner as soon as he becomes MC. If there are examples of this in other games, movies, or books, I’d be interested.
I am going to respectfully disagree that this is how it MUST be. The story our team is currently working features neither a stud nor a giant cock, but the MC is being pursued by seven potential lovers.Since so many people want to "immerse" themselves as the MC AND want exclusive, global harems...
What's left? The MC MUST be a super-stud. This is fan-service or hack writing. That's all.
Without the beautiful renders, VNs would not be popular
I saw the picture on Patron/MDots -where do we get starlet and Mel? I must have missed the posting of this informations? Is it confirmed that Mel is a starlet in this new project?
Must be some weird negotiations going on between MrDots and his Patreon editors.
Father has no immediate backstory. No girlI also factor in the idea that good storytelling begins in media res.
You don't start a story three months before the action. Your story
starts when things are changing and stuff starts happening. The MCs life before D is only relevant if it explains something in the here and now. Whether he was a winner or loser doesn't matter unless it has immediate impact.
Love your insights.
in real life, there are only a handful of people that could (in a Western culture, pull off a “catch them all harem outcome” - mostly people with power, money or fame to a significant degree. It’s this expectation that puts all other MCs with alternate backgrounds into unrealistic situations. On the 'net, I try to use terms that most people will accept. The older term would be "cliche".
In this case, an MC (compare to BB or DoD if you want recent examples) has no discernible redeeming characteristics except a big dick. (A sub-cliche at that).
What most people understand quite well is that these are PORN games. Since so many people want to "immerse" themselves as the MC AND want exclusive, global harems...

I still wish you good luck. But you're up against it, Jeff...
Of all games discussed here, this is the last one I'd expect to see 'on hold'..just noticed "on hold" tag :FeelsBadMan:
and with that [Onhold] flag DMD is starting to smell like Limburger. This was a milker before....

What exactly would you call Patreon if not a crowdfunding platform? It is the biggest, most popular and easiest to use platform for exactly what you want out there. And the quasi-monthly update schedule is also fairly typical in this whole genre/business...I don't really know what MrDots has earned before Patreon has gone down the drain, but how would it be, if devs are using Crowdfunding sites for each updates?
Just to set a "monthly-fee", something like 8 grands (+/-) a month to keep his team alive and then maybe release each month a update - even if it's just small process.
Only until some better solution has occured, because it's always a lot work, regarding to those monthly crowdfundingcampains and keep updates on time.
Because an already "slow" progress rate coupled with most significantly likely less monetization potential, the seeming wish of Mr.Dots to do most of the work himself and the needs for a completely new project (that in turn will have access to the far bigger userbase of Patreon) doesn't exactly point towards the brightest future for DmD. Sure maybe it will beat the odds and continue apiece but I personally wouldn't get my hopes up.Dont know why people are writing shit.mr dots said he is continuing this and it is his MAIN project.
Same here. Until Mr. Dots, I didn't even know what Patreon was. He's the reason I signed up to begin with.DMD is my first VN.
Absolutely! This is just good business. And if you're going to miss deadlines, you need to communicate fully, clearly and above all accurately with your customers. They will be much more forgiving of a truth up front than an excuse after the fact.setting/keeping a deadline day is paramount.
As a dev I don't think I could put these in any kind of hierarchical order because they are all equally important. I could have the best story in the world with gorgeous renders, and if my code breaks down constantly, I fail. On the same token, I could have the cleanest, most efficient and reliable code possible, but if my story is weak and my renders garbage, I fail. To me all three, code, renders and story must be given equal priority for ongoing success. For the game itself, the most important element is coding (various types). Then comes rendering since that's the main "drawing card" of VNs after all.
I've written short stories before and gone through about 75% of Nanowrimo two years in a row, and I have to say, writing a VN is WAY faster and easier. This is because I can focus purely on dialogue. I don't have to spend precious word count describing scenes, mood, setting, etc. All of that is taken care of by the renders. I just have to worry about what my characters are saying and the rest is dealt with visually. This makes writing a VN story for me personally, much faster. I can lay down several scenes of dialogue in a matter of hours.Even if a dev can write a novel or short-story (if he would be so inclined), there are only so many hours in a day.
I'll have to let you know when our first story is done, because I'm still answering these questions for myself. My main questions are : is it feasible? ; is it sustainable?
He finished it.Someone know what fucking happened with Dating my Daughter?
so many hours of bumping for nothingHe finished it.
Turns out the sex scene with the barista was the climax of the whole damned story. What a twist huh?
well actually I wonder how he plans to do this, since Patreon already told him that he can't collect money to fuel DmD even if it's off of their platform. Also he said that half of his Patreons use paypal and that in his country Stripe doesn't work.Dont know why people are writing shit.mr dots said he is continuing this and it is his MAIN project.
