@muttdoggy can we PLEASE suspend this thread until DmD .17 is finally released? It’s been 30 odd pages of ifs related to patreon new rules (already new threads are out there) there is a Patreon kills DmD thread and so on. 742 pages and counting! I’ve read all of them and on topic post

The real problem here is not Patreon itself (I mean, they are being a dildo, sure). This incest witch hunt was triggered by none other than Paypal.
Paypal has a very strict policy regarding where the money comes from, specially if it's from porn
Strict as in: "Nope, you can't earn money with porn. Not on our watch!"
Good thing is, I read somewhere that eBay dropped Paypal usage (and they were, like, BFF for quite some time now). Hopefully this is Paypal's slow descent into disuse and other, more open-mined, alternatives will appear.
But that's just wishful thinking, with all the liberal propaganda and political correctness looming over the internet nowadays I really doubt it'll happen anytime soon.

Sorry, you are wrong Paypal is accepted as payment methods for many pornsites and vdategames website. They have a deal with epoch who are fundimentally a porn payment processor.
The whole kick has come from somewhere else. It reeks of a court order. Look at within 3 months new community guidelines where implamented and enforced vigoursly. This is pressure from Law enforcment or the ISP of the site who has spoken Law Enforcment.

I am really not trying to get into a political argument but historically that flat-out isn't true. One group is has been publicly against all pornography and the other has been advocating it as free speech but does not fight for the fringes. I will let you guess which is which but I will tell you that if the one side had it's way you would not have to worry about what happens on the fringes because anyone showing a tit would be against the law.

Politics are a really hot and sensitive topic nowadays. Some think they (politics) are necessary (a necessary evil, if you will), others (like me) think they are useless and just hamper free society development.

If there was a court order, there would have been a prosecution, a suit of some kind would've been filed. I don't know much about American law, but even a private prosecution would surely have to be public record, and there are no Federal private prosecutions. I think we would have heard about it if Patreon had been taken to court, basically.
I'll say again that it's probably no coincidence that this came shortly after Patreon took a bunch of VC money. That money almost surely came with strings attached regarding monetisation strategy (hence the attempted fee restructuring late last year) and it's no stretch to think the investors tacked on "Kick out the weird kids" along with that.

It is not that simple. There doesn't have to be a court order and it doesn't have to be public. A government agency could have hit them with subpoena compelling them to produce documents while simultaneously hitting them with a gag order. Like they did with Lavabit.

I still feel Patreon’s actions are in line with their towing the line with merchant pay services. Merchant pay services require more money to handle adult transactions to cover the loss of income when someone claims their card was illegally used, etc. apparently that is more common with transactions and adult sites.
Thus Patreon negotiated with the merchant pay companies and Patreon restricted adult content to no link search from Patreon and nomshowing content to non patrons.
I think the further restriction on some adult content is a further extension of the merchant pay rules.
