Hi guys!

After receiving the approval from Patreon, today I’d like to share with you our plans for the new game. The game will be called Melody and our first update (Melody: Episode 1) will be released on March 23rd.

I’ve decided to name our updates with chapters and not with numbers this time (e.g. v0.01, v0.02, etc.) so that way it sounds less confusing for new players. The first episode will be quite long, just so we can give you all a better idea of what our two main characters are all about, what their respective backgrounds are, and how secondary characters tie into their everyday lives.

Main Plot

You play a session musician who has had a busy lifestyle, having worked in various cities and towns across the country. This has been your life, ever since you graduated from college, where you attained a degree in the field of Music.

Once returning home, you decide to leave the place you grew up in, to start a new life and a fresh start in another town. You have also decided to take a break from the job you know so well, to focus on a brand-new career. You’re just not sure what that will be yet.

In order to keep the money coming in, you decide to take up a job offer, tutoring Melody, the niece of a woman you meet by chance via an online marketplace. Melody is currently studying music in college, so having an experienced tutor is pretty important for her chosen career path.

About the dating system

You will be spending time with Melody every day. Aside from one-on-one lessons you will have with her, you will also be accompanying her at various music related activities. If all goes well, you may even be able to go out on a date with her. And if that goes well too, it could lead to something even better!

You will be making decisions between two or more options, that will negatively or positively affect the outcome of the date and the main story as well.

There will be a number of secondary characters and you'll be able to start a romantic relationship with them too.

Will you be that guy that wins Melody's heart and has her singing to her own tune again? Is it possible that you and Melody can make beautiful music together one day?

What would you like to see in the new game?

We are in the early stages of creating the game, so I’d like to know what features, scenes, clothing, characters, etc. you would like to see in this project.

The plan is that you and Melody will take several trips to different cities and get to do different music and non-music related activities while you are there. A concept similar to DMD.

A lot of the coolest ideas and scenes used in DMD came from you guys so I’d like you to help me shape this visual novel into a great game. Of course, we will take the ideas as a suggestion and in the end, we’ll decide if we implement them or not.

I’ll be sharing more renders and updates during this month with my patrons. Overall, we’re really excited to start with this project. We’ve learned a lot from our first game and we’ll try not to make the same mistakes we have made in the past.

I understand why DMD and BB devs cling on to Patreon. It's an interesting situation from an economic point of view. Out of desperation, the devs convinced themselves they can still sell what patrons do NOT want and yet things will continue to be reasonably OK. After 6 months of dwindling revenues most devs will be burned out and they'll just quit and vanish. Instead, they should face the situation head on right now and do everything in their power to get off Patreon starting with pooling their names and creating a Patreon page that is just "Pay us $10/month for a few months to research Patreon alternatives". I guarantee you that a thorough research project like that, driven by known names, with tens of thousands of patrons would give the disgusting human trash at Patreon that plays Mind Police the mother of all kicks in the balls.

So, that’s basically what’s happening guys. We will finish all the content we had planned for this update (v0.17), and then we’ll focus on the new game for a while.

Until the dust settles we have no other choice but to comply with Patreon and wait. We don’t want to rush the ending of the game either. Maybe a good Patreon alternative may become available in the next few months, who knows? But for now, we want to play this carefully and not make any rushed decisions that could mean the end of our games.

It’s you the fans that keep us going, and if DMD had been completed already, this new project that we’ve begun working on would’ve been the game we would have followed up with. So due to the unfortunate circumstances, we’ve started on it a lot earlier than we have previously planned! But we also hope that you will support us on our new project or at least try it out to begin with.

Right now, all the chips are on Patreon's side of the table. At any given moment they can pull the rug out from under MrDots and force him out of Patreon. Why? Because of his complacency. On the surface and even a few levels below that, he's complying to Patreon's TOS and giving them a less risque porn game to keep their censors happy. Tomorrow, Jack Conte can have a change of heart and say "No Porn!" and MrDots is SOL. By bending over backwards for Patreon, MrDots is allowing them to control everything. Not to mention, I'm pretty sure that someone from the Patreon team is acting as a shadow patron to keep an eye on MrDots' dealings.

Instead of waiting for an alternative, he should just turn the DMD site into a Patreon style pay-site. It's not impossible; risky but not impossible. He won't do that because Patreon guarantees him money from his patrons while venturing out on his own runs the risk of his patrons not following suit. There's an old saying "If you build it, they will come."

If things stay as they are : MrDots stays at Patreon ; Patreon continues its anti-porn crusade ; no reasonable Patreon alternative funding platforms are found. Then yes, the chances of MrDots doing a DMD continuation after 0.17 seem very slim.
But now calculate what are the chances that things stay as they are? Damn close to zero, agreed? DMD has been and can still be a money-maker for either MrDots or a different studio in future.
So I'd be willing to say that there is almost zero chance that DMD will be completely and forever cancelled. It may take a different direction/form but it is NOT FINISHED...

If his priorities are sticking with a company that can ruin him at the whim of jagoff CEO, then I can say with some certainty that DMD's future is lost. As a patron of his and a supporter of the adult game world that has recently sparked, I'm disappointed that what's truly going to bring these games down isn't Patreon but the devs complacency. These people have created a firestorm and instead of finding different fuel to ignite it, they're letting it smolder into nothingness.

The issue is, Patreon was NEVER supposed to support porn. Listen to Jack Conte's interview on the Rubin Report. He specifically mentions pornography as something that Patreon wouldn't allow. It was then that I was sure about two things a) Most of the people working at Patreon at the time had no idea how much porn was on their service and b) When they found out, things would go badly. This was months before the first real push back against a lot of developers happened. Incest, rape, loli and the like are easy targets to go after without seeming too draconian, as very few people are going to want to go out of their way to defend that stuff. It was also very blatant.

Now maybe Conte has changed his mind about the whole thing, it's possible. But based on his own words, I figure that more and more porn will be shunted off the site over time.

You do realize that no one thought Patreon would be banning fetish heavy games and content the first time around right? Just because they haven't done it yet doesn't mean they won't. You may be right, they may never fully ban adult content, but then again you could be wrong and it's just a matter of time. Especially if these devs try and secretly keep producing their banned games while using their Patreon friendly games to continue generating revenue.

At the end of the day Patreon is a business, and like most businesses sooner or later they won't want to be associated with porn. Jack Conte has made it clear that he doesn't endorse nor support porn content of any kind on Patreon. They tolerate it now, it's only fair to assume that they won't in the near future.

, I have been following the news, but Im giving my thoughts about the new game plot.
We also know that this game will "steal" the time away from DmD. as he explained, after 0.17, they will focus on the new game, and who knows how long. we already have a slow progress in DmD, now it will go even slower.
I know about it all, the reason and all, but the new game plot is not interesting, at least not now, maybe he can make it good, maybe there will be funny parts and interesting twists, but right now i just feel "another slow game that will focus on a horny old bastard that will use his influence and knowledge to fuck a young and naive girl". DmD is a bit like that, D is naive but DmD is his first big project and I got used to that and eventually accepted that part. but the new game is a reminder of that and its not a pleasant emotion.

I wouldn't call CCBill an obscure third party payment system. Perhaps for virtual novels and games, but for the longest time CCBill was the gold standard in credit card processing for adult porn sites. I'm not sure if they still play in that merchant space. But nearly every porn site from like '98 to '10 used CCBill because their fraud detection was top notch.

as for the new game, dont know how anyone can be opimistic really. proably its gonna be pretty much the same as DMD just with cut out incest (which was major selling point) again gonna wait a year+ till you get some h scenes. and that is if patreon doesnt f*Ck him up more, or his patrons get tired of the dev and ditch him, thus abandoning everything
